I have finally, finally gotten around to writing something. But it's so unlike everything I've written before that I'm a little hesitant to post it. I was going to wait until I was finished the entire thing and then post it, but I thought that maybe I should put up the first chapter and see what everyone thinks. That way I can change something before writing the other chapters if some blatantly obvious flaw gets pointed out or something.

It's not beta'd. But I'm trying to write a first person narrative, heavy on the free indirect discourse, so a lot of the time I'm trying to show the thought process and so I ignore some aspects of grammar on purpose.
