Question about Nick

Okay, so this is something I've been wondering for quite a while now.

In lots of the fanfics I've read, Nick has a love of birds. I was just wondering if this was purely fanon- i.e. something the fans like that was never established on the show or if it was actually canon.

If it is canon, what episodes/seasons is it? I've only seen all of seasons five, six, seven and eight and catch reruns of the previous ones on the telly and I've never seen Nick's knowledge or love of birds, so can someone help me out here?

i think it's season 4. it's the episode entitled "Fight Night". So good. Nick's all up in arms that he tells Grissom it's the night of the pifflins and he's stuck working a B&E. then goes on to say "how come when you talk about bugs, it's interesting, but when i talk about birds, people tell me to get out more?"

I had no idea. I was just like, "huh, I never pegged Nick as a bird watcher. WHY DOES THE FANDOM DO IT, THEN?!"

it's so great. nick's so..unnerved and indignant in that scene, like he really wants to know why he gets told to get out.

It's definitely canon. There are a number of episodes where he's shown to have a lot of interest in birds. The scene in Fight Night was probably the most memorable, but there are other mentions of birds throughout the series.

I'm curious: how did you get into Nick/Greg if you haven't seen the first three flirty seasons?

I've actually seen most of seasons one and two, but that was a loooong time ago. I just remembered how much touching they did and the bit where Greg's eating Ramen and Nick just stares at his ass. I realized how much I loved the pairing after the pilot episodes with the talk of anal swabs and I read some really great fic about them. Plus, I plan on renting the first seasons again to refresh my memory. :)
