Title: From Tiny Acorns
Rating: I’m not too sure about how to rate thingymabobbies like this yet, so I’ll caution that there is some use of profane language in this chapter, if you object to it, don’t read it.
Pairing: Nick/Greg
Chapter: 2/?
Chapter One.

A/N: Thank you to everyone who left a review on my first chapter, the encouragement really inspired me to write this next chapter. I’m not too sure where this is placed CSI season wise, so I think I’ll place it post-explosion but pre-split. *mutters darkly* So, as promised, you gave me reviews I give you…

Greg was tired. It seemed his workload had doubled since he’d taken the enormous step of transferring to trainee-CSI; something that though expected was still nonetheless exhausting. Finally though, he had a night off. If he was honest with himself, it wasn’t so much the break from work he was glad of, but the break from Nick Stokes.

It wasn’t even like the guy annoyed him. Hell, it was the complete opposite. Greg was starting to think that hatred was preferable to the ever-growing urge to fuck Nick every time he walked in the room. Still, tonight was his night, where he could finally wear tight jeans without fearing Sara or one of the other more alert CSIs noticing…well…his ever growing urge.

He drove to a bar/restaurant that had just opened in town near his house and was gaining a good reputation. He figured Nick as a creature of habit, and so didn’t expect to see him there. He smiled at himself disbelievingly. He was so far gone that he was plotting Nick’s moves and thought processes.

I need a new hobby.

Walking in, he went straight to the bar to nurse a beer and think about what he was going to do with his night off. He had contemplated his old standby of video games and masturbation, but the childhood rumour of doing either of those too much making you blind had stuck fast, and he had decided to broaden his horizons.

By getting a beer in a bar? Slow down crazy man!

Greg sighed. Sometimes he hated his brain, it was so much smarter than he was. Still, at least this was a start, and at least he could almost positively guarantee that he wasn’t going to spend half the night with an uncomfortably apparent erection to hide.

Although something about the night didn’t seem quite right. Greg had the uncomfortable feeling he was being watched. He shook it off as a remainder of too many nights with too little sleep. He looked down and was shocked to find his beer bottle empty.

When did that happen?

Not wanting to question his sanity, or indeed short term memory, Greg thought it safest to get another beer. After all, if he couldn’t find the answer in the bottom of a glass, at least he’d be drunk. Sometimes Greg was so logical it scared him a little. He was finally starting to relax, to enjoy the evening and not thinking about you-know-who too much. He felt a presence behind him, and by reflex swung around to face them.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuckety Fuck McFuckFuck. It was official. God, Buddha, Hendrix; whichever deity it was up there, they hated him good and proper, and were making sure he was duly punished.

“Hey”

One word. One word from Nick and he was having to think evil, evil thoughts about naked Ecklie to save himself from complete embarrassment. Still, he couldn’t just ignore Nick, much as he wanted to disappear into a hole in the ground.

“Hey”

Hopefully that would be it now. Nick had acknowledged Greg and would now leave to go do…whatever it was he was doing.

“So…uh…night off?”

For such an intelligent man he’s really quite dense sometimes.

“No, they let us have bar breaks on the job now.”

“Uh…heh heh…yeah.”

Greg paused for a second, scared and yet hopeful that his sarcasm had scared Nick off.

“So, you wanna…y’know, hang out? Maybe grab a bite?”

Yup, definitely the actions of a scared man.

Greg paused in thought. If he went, he’d spend the extra time with Nick and God how he wanted extra time with Nick. Although his extra time involved less eating and more sex. On the other hand if he did go he might get drunk enough to say something he’d regret, or be so self aware that he’d embarrass Nick in the process. Damn Nick for putting him in this position.

Of all the gin joints in all the world…

Greg smiled bitterly at that.

“So, that’s a yes then Greg?”

Ah. Maybe not as bitterly as he’d thought. What could he do now? If he refused it would look like he didn’t like Nick even as a friend and that would make work awkward. There was nothing else he could do, but he supposed it was only one night. How bad could it possibly go?

“Sure Nick, whatever.”

He hoped he’d managed to hide the “JUST FUCK ME DAMMIT!” impulses that his brain had been trying to send out. The night was young and held possibilities of going wrong in so very many ways. Greg only hoped he could make it out of the evening with a tiny bit of dignity intact.

Ooohh. I liked it. It's a nice compliment to the first chapter. I always like it when authors play with point of views on the same situation.

Of course, now, you'll just have to write more. :D

Oh, I am so loving this. I love a scene done by each one's POV, I love that, the same scene seen through two different eyes. Poor Greg, can't wear tight pants to work, what a shame. Really looking forward to the next part.

Poor Greg, if only he knew what Nick had in mind, but of course that would make for much less entertainment on my end of things. It was really fun to see what Greg was thinking.

Now here is a great philosopy, The night was young and held possibilities of going wrong in so very many ways.

I also thought this described Greg amazingly well, Sometimes he hated his brain, it was so much smarter than he was.

I like this piece so far, and I hope you continue it. Great writing, and interesting characterization, which I think does our boys justice.

X

I just love 'getting together fics' and this one is no exception. Greg's inner monologue is hilarious! Excellent job, can't wait for more.
