Evidence: Subtext-scenes from S5Ep1 Viva Las Vegas

To show the progress of the Nick/Greg dynamic in canon, I plan to post scenes from the last couple of seasons every week on a regular basis. It's not meant to be a recap of the episode (If you need a reminder of the cases, you can find a extended synopsis here), but it's more a Cute Scene Investigation. Let's call it evidence of subtext in pictures. I hope to convince non-believers of the chemistry and inspire authors and artists to take the story further;)

Since I'm working on the Nick/Greg Hairguide for Season 5 at the moment, the first episode I have examined is Viva Las Vegas. Remember that one?

Scene 1: Greg's replacement


Giddy Greg is all smiles, Dirty Nick (who's definitely going commando underneath that cover all) is not particularly charmed by the new labperson.

Scene 2: Roll call


What's going on here? Nick comes back from his shower and Greg is pissed? Hmmm. I am as confused as Nick. Maybe it was because of the 'You got to be kidding me'-look he gave Greg after he introduced his replacement? (Scene 1)

Scene 3: The Bet


Greg hates Nick right now. The bastard bet against him? Not good. (Warrick is trying to make himself invisible. One lovers' quarrel coming up...)

So what do you think? Why is Greg glaring at Nick in Scene 2? What's the status of their relationship at this point?

Bet against him? I never saw it that way. I always saw it as Nick betting Chandra wouldn't last the night. That's actually the first time I've even thought of it as Nick betting against Greg.

Well, that's Nick's side of the story of course;) (Read the fics, read the fics!)
From my point of view Greg was already down from failing his proficiency-test, when that stupid Chandra couldn't handle the lab and walked out. He really needed a supportive (boy)friend at that moment, but instead he sees a totally insensitive Nick exchanging money. In his mind it doesn't matter what the exact wager was, Nick was not there for him. Grumble, grumble.

OMG this is such a great idea. I mean not just simply the pictures *which is already awesome to start with* but also that you black-whited *horray for my creativity for new words in foreign languages =)* everyone except these two, but also did you bring fics that are connected to this. Absolutely awesome. I had at some point thought bringing a recap of all Nick/Greg scees/episodes as well, but you do a much nicer job =)

On a sideote: I never liked Chandra, or whatever her name was anyway, and I found it really mean that he would bet agaist his boyfriend, but than again maybe he just wanted to keep Greg in the lab so that he wouln't have to worry about possible suspects/victims/witnesses hitting on Greg.

Thank you:) Truth is: I really suck at writing down everything I want to say about the scenes and the subtext, so pictures are the easy way out for me;) I wish I could do coherent recaps.

I too wish Greg was still in the lab, I miss the flirting:) They don't get a lot of opportunities to do that while out in the field. (Although I'm sure I'll find evidence of it eventually;)

Chandra was awful. I just saw the first episode with Wendy, now THAT's my kind of girl:)

Ah, love your idea and love the pictures. Although, I'd have added Greg's grin after Nicky told him, he'd be having a shower because this grin was so different from the cheery grin he had because he found a replacement. One could almost say he had some dirty thoughts going on ...
Anyway maybe that's why he didn't look so pleased in the second picture because Nicky wouldn't "play" with him in the shower or because he couldn't play with Nicky because of Chandra?
And yes, I also think that Nick wasn't betting against Greg more against Chandra. Nevertheless, he'll be sleeping on the couch that night.

:) But I chose to use the smile, because in that shot you can see from the back of Nick's head that he is smiling back at Greg and the subject was supposed to be obvious subtext. But we all know Greg couldn't stop himself imagining Nick in the shower. *g* Love your explanation of his pissy mood in Scene 2.

Love the idea. I also think Nick was betting against Chandra staying not Greg himself. I never noticed the glare before, can't figure that one out.

I had not noticed the glare at roll call before either, but while I was doing intensive research for all possible shots of Greg's hair I all of a sudden saw that bitchy look and I was all "What? What? Greg, honey? What?" (I worry too much about the guys;)

Yeah, I think the bet was about Chandra, I thought it was funny how she treated Nick and Warrick so very differently: she wouldn't even shake Nick's hand but was all over Warrick. That must be why he thought she would last longer;o)
