Taking the Plunge 1/2
Nick settled into his lifeguard chair, looking out at the scene before him. It was a hot summer’s day and it seemed like the whole community had come out to enjoy the cool waters of the pool.
He heard giggles to his left and turned to see a group of teenage girls hide their faces, still laughing and whispering to themselves. Nick flashed one of his perfect smiles and slid his sunglasses down to shade his eyes from the sun. He had gotten used to the attention. He was young, tanned, muscular...who didn’t look at Nick Stokes?
It was then that the lifeguard saw the pool gate swing open and someone new stepped in. The guy looked to be about his age and height, with spiky brown hair and blond highlights. His eyes were covered by dark sunglasses, a towel slung over his arm. He was dressed in a t-shirt, blue and white board shorts, and blue flip flops. Nick had never found himself attracted to a man before but he just couldn’t keep his eyes off him.
The lifeguard was shaken out of his trance when a beach ball came flying into his lap. He playfully tossed it back at the kids who had hit it his way, but he could have sworn he saw the new guy grin at him out of the corner of his eye.
A dragging sound and Nick looked down to see *him* pulling one of the lounge chairs closer to the lifeguard stand. Not close enough to be obvious to others, but close enough that Nick knew what he was doing. “Hi. I’m Greg,” he said.
Nick was taken by surprise. “Uh, Nick,” he muttered. Greg smiled – now Nick knew that he had brown eyes - then kicked off his flip flops. Greg slyly turned to make sure Nick was watching before pulling his shirt up and off. Nick could see Greg’s tanned abs and chest. Greg stretched, turning so Nick could have an even better view. Finally, Greg lied down on the lounge chair, and after one last quick glance Nick was able to pull his eyes away.
Greg hadn’t said anything since he introduced himself. Truthfully, Nick was torn. He would have liked to talk to Greg more but at the same time felt embarassed for being attracted to a guy. Nick had gotten red, but it wasn’t from sunburn.
Awhile passed - it had to have been ten or fifteen minutes – until Greg spoke again. “It’s really hot today, don’t you think, Nick? You’re looking pretty hot up there,” he said innocently. Nick looked around, worried that somone else had heard, but it didn’t seem like anyone else noticed.
“Yeah, the sun is, uh, really bright today,” the lifeguard stuttered.
“I think I’m gonna get wet.”
“I think you should too,” Nick blurted before he could stop himself. Greg obviously heard this, as he turned to look at Nick with an expression on his face that screamed Gotcha! “I mean the water would be a good way to cool down.”
The spiky-haired brunette laughed softly to himself before moving to the edge of the pool. He sat on the lining, letting just his feet and legs dip into the water. “The water’s nice, Nick. Really nice.”
“I bet it is.”
Nick watched Greg as he dipped his hand into the pool and brought it up to his body, letting the cool water trickle down his torso. The dark-haired lifeguard followed a drop as it slid down Greg’s back, gliding across smooth, tanned skin and disappearing into his shorts. Nick unconsciously licked his lips.
A splash and Greg had dived in. Despite the fact that he was supposed to be keeping watch over everyone at the pool, Nick only had eyes for Greg. The way he moved through the water was almost entrancing as he leisurely swam laps back and forth. Greg was a natural in the water.
After a few more laps, Greg pulled himself out of the pool, the water dripping everywhere. He ran his hands through his hair before shaking his head like a wet dog. The sunlight glinted off Greg’s soaked skin. Nick swallowed; he thought Greg had looked good before but this...this was getting to be too much. He silently tried to will away the erection growing in his red shorts.
Greg towel-dried himself off before reaching for his wallet and headed over to the concession stand. Nick heard a whistle blow – it was the end of his shift. He quickly left his post and made a quick decision to follow Greg. He was about to do something he had never done before.
He was hit with a stroke of confidence and the lifeguard fell in line behind the spiky-haired man. “Hey, Greg,” he whispered.
Greg turned and grinned his perfect grin. “Yeah, Nick?”
Nick took a furtive glance to make sure no one was listening. “Meet me here at ten-thirty. Tonight.”
Greg’s expression turned to surprise then excitement. “I’ll be there.”
Nick stepped out of the line, giving Greg a small wave over his shoulder. All he had to do was make it through the rest of the day.
