I have really tried to get my facts straight in this story but I have made a horrible mistake. I've killed Nick. Please read the message under the cut and accept my apologies for mis-leading you.



This is from a fan fiction reader from the 'WHAT MAKES THE DESERT BEAUTIFUL' site.
I am so grateful to her for taking the time to give me this detailed information and I will be running stuff by her for the next two chapters to make sure I don't do any more damage.

I will correct Chapter 23 for the archive records but I want to concentrate right now on getting things right from here on end.

Hi, Yoshi here.
I'm loving your story as you can probably tell by the reviews.
I just wanted to comment though on your use of Clozapine as an emergency type sedative. I'm a psychologist working in mental health rehabilitation and work with schizophrenic clients daily, many of them taking this drug as they are otherwise treatment resistant. You have the main side effect of agranulocytosis completely correct but this drug would never be used as a one off sedative. It has to be started at a very low dose and the client has to be hospitalised at the time, with the dosage being titrated up to the minimum therapeutic level. A sudden large dose to subdue would be fatal. They would more likely use an older antipsychotic like chlorpromazine or haloperidol, or quite often good old diazepam, for a fast reaction.
I do hope you don't take offence at this email, I just thought that with all the hard work you've obviously put in, and with how much I'm enjoying this, you'd appreciate hearing something from the shop floor so to speak.

And I am impressed by the way, the amount of medical "things" you've manage to write... if I had written it, much more would have gone wrong. I would probably have killed Nick much sooner and many times.

OH my God! I thought I was going to have to hate you ... when I read this post before clicking the cut I thought that you meant you couldn't help it you had to kill him off ...

I was so happy to read that it was a mistake in what you had Alan give him! *phew*

First off the fact that you could A. Admit to the mistake, B. Be willing to to go back and fix it and C. Post the lovely correction by a reader ... it all makes me adore you and this story even more.

Well,

You did scared me. I used to read complete stories so I cut and paste each of your chapters to read in a row at the end. And Now, I saw this post.

I think it's kind of Yoshi to take the time to explain the drug effect to you and I think it's wonderfull that you want to fix this and tell everybody. I don't know any of theses drugs so I'll never have notice the mistake in the first place. Don't worry about it. The purpose of fanfiction is to entertained and your story certainly do that.

Now... I'm too curious to wait anymore... I've to read it NOW!

Now, Now, lets not get hasty. There are only a few more chapters to go and I'm going to try to get it done before Christmas for sure. Just think, you could save it and read it while you're waiting for Santa to come down your chimney.

Thanks for the words of comfort and support. I am so far from being a professional writer but for years one of my professional responsibilities was designing software for patient management, care and accounting. I always had to write a user's manual that had to be clear, concise and to the point. I'm used to doing research for what I write. Evidently, I'm better at truth than fiction.
