Problems over at WMTDB

Hey everyone, remember how I mentioned our lack of space at the site and wondering where it all went?? Well, my all knowing and powerful WebGod Matt, 0creativity has figured it out, and nothing good... Apparently some kind of bot has invaded our Wiki side, and kept creating accounts and more accounts, then in went into our Wiki and started changing pages and adding links, hundreds and hundreds of links.... Hence taking up literally all of our space....

Well we have good news and bad news, good news, it can be fixed and the fic will not be affected in any of this. Bad news, everything else will be affected, and have to be deleted and recreated... Including all the galleries, Video section, and the boards... The video's will be saved through our current hosting site, but we will have to relink everything, which will take a while, but they will all be back...It may take some time, some days or a couple weeks, I'm not sure, so save what you want now....

Don't worry, everything will be back, but we have to get rid of whatever is eating up all of our space and clean the site out. Plus Matt is working on his Honor's project, and this is kind of helping it out so hey.....OK I'm trying to put a positive spin on this.... Like I said, fic will be unaffected, this that is great, which is what most of us go there for anyway... but we are going to keep trying to make this site the best out there, a place for everyone and all their Nick/Greg goodness, so we need to get our space back to be able to do that. I'll do my best to answer your questions if you have any, and Matt is on the job, and I have the upmost faith in him and whatever he does for the site..... So, keep checking in and keep reading, everything else will be back as soon as we get it cleaned up and fixed....

The fic area is the only one that won't be affected, that's run on something else entirely.... So the fic won't be down at all, we'll just have to work on everything else and getting it back up...

Basically all of the pages EXCEPT the fic pages are gone, so navigating the site is pretty much impossible at the moment. Videos, pics, etc. are all still on the server, but we used the Wiki to link to it all. Since that's gone, the links are gone now so unless you know the complete url to those things, you're not going to be able to find them.

I do currently have www.nickandgreg.com redirecting to my own site where I have a very basic page set up with a link to the fic archive and where I'll be posting updates, etc.

I really don't know what happened...but I had something happening at www.csiforum.no a couple of years ago. Accounts were made only to spam links. I mannage to get rid of it by including another step in my register form... they now have to type in digits shown in a picture. I don't know if there's any patches to be installed doing this for wiki-pages? I have never run a wiki page, so I have no idea. But if there is, this will (as you probably know) prevent computers to automatically making accounts to distribute spam.

I am way over my head with things I should have done months ago, so I cannot offer my time to help you, but I wish you all the best, and thank you with all my heart for doing the work of running my favourite site!

Yeah, I thought about doing that, but damage to the existing pages was so bad that the whole thing really just needed to be scratched and since it was already planned to rebuild everything from scratch, anyway, I don't see the point in putting Wiki back up at the moment. Thanks for the suggestion, though :)

Yeah, I thought it was something we did, but Matt found the problem out tonight, and he's going to work on it, but unfortunatley he said the best thing would be to delete everything and basically start over, since there was just so much in there to delete and go through.....

Oh Christ that scared the shit out of me! Not that what's going on is good, but when I saw bad news about the site, I totally thought it was being taken down or something. Phew! lol.
