“Work, work, work, it’s all we seem to do anymore,” Greg griped as he sat on the break room couch. It had been four hours since he and Nick parted ways for work, a small smooch snuck in the locker room just wasn't enough. He felt a little better knowing that Warrick was aware of their relationship, but found it was increasingly harder to mask his enthusiasm with the others.
“Is someone having a bad night?” Warrick asked in baby talk, teasing him.
Greg just glared at him and smirked entertaining his lame attempts to aggravate him, “Yes I am,” He responded gruffly and looked away. “It’s been four hours and no sign of Nick. Where the hell did Grissom send him? Siberia?” He asked, his voice filled with sarcasm.
“Not that I am aware of, but I do know he and Catherine are working together,” He stated giving a smile hoping that it would ease Greg’s mind a little.
“Yeah, and I have seen her three or more times in the last four hours,” Greg mumbled, frustrated.
“Someone missing his love muffin?” Warrick teased, trying to rile Greg even more.
Greg didn’t respond he just gave him another dirty look unable to stop thinking something could have happened to Nick. Don’t be silly, he thought quietly to himself. He decided although against the rules he’d call him and reached down to flip open his phone, scrolling through the names till he located Nick’s number. He was just about to push call when Warrick interrupted him again.
“Cheer up man,” Warrick told him standing up. “Nick just walked in.” He added tapping his knee and glancing up in Nick's direction before exiting the room.
Greg’s eyes lit up as he spun around in time to see Nicky walking down the hall. It was like a scene from a movie, everything was moving in slow motion. Nick had a huge smile on his face, all that was missing was the dubbed music “Dream Weaver.” He sighed happily snapping back into reality as he watched Nick disappear in the evidence room.
“Well that sucks slightly,” He mumbled walking back to the lab, even more disappointed that he still hadn't been able to talk with him. He reached over and turned on his radio, the music filled the room. Greg went about his work, dancing around like he’d always done, though tonight there wasn’t as much bounce to his steps. He caught himself occasionally peering out into the hallway, hoping he’d see Nick again. It just wasn’t like him to be in the building and not say hi. He glanced back up from the table one last time and to his pleasant surprise the door opened and Nick walked in.
“G, you busy?” Nick asked looking around to make sure no one else was in ear shot. He was still apprehensive about people seeing them together at work, the less people that knew the better and knowing Warrick knew still wasn't settling well with Nick.
“Not for you, what do you need, want, require?” Greg responded teasingly.
“Okay, I wanted to tell you a secret,” Nick whispered motioning Greg to come closer to him, lifting his eyebrows in an overly flirtatious gesture.
Greg moved in as close as he could without it looking obvious. “You have my attention,” He responded softly. His heart began to race and he could smell Nick's sweet scent that he loved so much, every part of his being wanted to take him right there in the lab.
“I love you,” Nick whispered in his ear, his warm breath against Greg’s skin causing him to tremble. He dropped the folder he had been holding and papers fell to the floor, “Oops, I am sorry,” He added laughing as he watched Greg squat to retrieve the paperwork.
“Two and a half hours of work Nicky, I am now going to have to reorganize all this,” Greg uttered in frustration not with Nick but in himself he should have been prepared for that.
“Hey I said I am sorry,.” Nick whispered as he squatted down and helped pick up the papers.
“Wanna help me sort through all these Stokes?” Greg gestured at the papers that were scattered all over.
“You know what? I’d love to but, I have to get back to this case. So I am gonna go before I cause anymore mishaps in here, I will see you later.” Nick answered standing up and backing away, still grinning from ear to ear.
“You suck,” Greg muttered, cocking an eyebrow before sticking out his tongue.
“Later, I promise,” Nick added giving a wink as he slipped out into the hall.
Greg managed to clean up his mess and had begun to sort out the papers growing more frustrated with each passing minute as he started to carelessly stuff papers into the folder. Ohhhh Nicky, just you wait. He thought to himself as he plotted his revenge. After delivering the folder to Sara, he decided to take the few minutes he had free and talk with Nick. He approached the evidence room, observing Nick who was hard at work always able to tell when Nick was submerged in deep though by the way his jaw moved. He stood in the doorway quietly waiting for Nick to take notice of his presence.
"Greg," Nick smiled, relieved to see him.
"Interesting case?" Greg asked as he entered the room, somehow he felt better being in the same room with Nick so much so that he had forgotten what he was upset about.
"Yea I guess it is, what are you doing?" Nick asked continuing to process, trying to give the illusion that he was being productive.
"Bugging you," He responded playfully giving Nick a nudge.
Nick stood up, licked his lips and grinned. "You can't bug me Sanders." He teased walking around the table to get closer to Greg.
"Oh, interesting, why is that?" Greg asked stuttering his words not expecting Nick to be flirting at work. He took a quick look around to see who was watching if anyone before turning back to Nick who was now right in front of his face.
"Because.." Nick hissed gently rubbing his hand up Greg's arm.
Greg looked at Nick's hand and back to Nick. "Ummm well, because why?" Greg asked in a hushed voice almost forcing it out of his mouth, his lips having begun to quiver as he stood there immobilized by Nick's advances.
"Because I like you around," Nick uttered slowly gripping Greg's arm. "But you are in my way," He added before gently moving Greg to the side.
Greg exhaled hard. "That's just wrong man," He stated as he backed away from the table. "Just when I think your being romantic, BAM! You throw a curveball. Are you sure you didn't play baseball ‘cause ya know I'd swear…." Greg trailed off disappointed in Nick as he left the room.
Nick could still hear him mumbling as he walked down the hall which made him laugh. He continued processing the evidence. As soon as shift had ended, Nick went to the locker room to change before heading home. He was pre occupied with tying his shoe laces when he over heard talking as 2 more people joined him in the room.
"Warrick I am telling you I honestly think that something is going on," Sara stated as she opened her locker unaware that Nick was sitting there.
"Sara, you are reaching and further more if Nick and Greg were in fact.." He stopped suddenly, noticing Nick was in the room. "Hey Nick." He greeted trying to change the subject becoming uncomfortable and just opened his locker and tried to act nonchalant.
"If Nick and Greg what Warrick?" Nick asked raising his voice.
"Nothing man, hey we are getting breakfast you in?" Warrick asked hoping to take Nick's mind off the question.
"No man I have plans," Nick responded looking at Sara who'd grown very quiet. "What is it you think is going on?" Nick asked getting pissed that his friends were talking about him behind his back.
"Nothing Nicky, I just thought, it's crazy, are you and Greg seeing each other?" She asked taking Nick by surprise.
"What?" Nick asked standing, he took his stare off Sara for a moment noticing Greg had entered the locker room.
"I just thought that you and Greg were you know, involved," Sara responded, turning away from him.
"Ohhhhhhhh," Nick stated throwing his head back and laughing a little. "So what if we are?" He asked in a more serious tone looking back at her.
Greg never said a word, he just stood there, jaw gaping open. He'd never expected Nick to say anything like that especially not to Sara.
"So you are, big deal," She answered shutting her locker. "You know Nick, I don't appreciate this interrogation," She added folding her arms against her chest.
"I am so sorry Sara, I didn't realize it was acceptable to make accusations about your co workers but, when confronted it's an interrogation. Thank you for clearing that up." Nick snapped walking by her. He ushered Greg out into the hall, "Did you say something?" Nick asked directing his anger toward Greg.
"No, I didn't what the hell is going on?" Greg responded confused by what he just witnessed.
"It seems as though Sara thinks there is something going on between us." Nick answered trying to calm his breathing.
"Well she didn't get it from me Nicky." He pleaded seeing more frustration in Nick's eyes. "Nick it wasn't me." he stated watching helplessly as Nick walked away from him. Greg felt his heart sink in his chest, he looked toward the locker room, he was going to go in but hesitated, he wasn’t ready for them to gang up on him like they did Nick.
It seemed like a long drive home. Greg never felt more alone, he couldn’t shake his thoughts that Nick would think he’d compromise what they had to go brag to Sara. He arrived at home and noticed Nick’s car wasn’t there. He’d hoped he would be there, but figured it was probably for the best that he wasn’t.
After entering his apartment and kicking off his shoes to their resting place beside the door he walked to his phone, noticing the red light flashing which indicated he had a message. He pushed the button reluctantly, fearing the worst he tensed when he heard Nick’s voice at first.
“Ahh hi, Greg it's Nick. Sorry about this morning. I was just taken off guard as you can imagine. I don't blame you so please don't think I did, I would however like to see you so please give me a call if it's alright for me to come over.”
Greg smiled and picked up his phone dialing Nick's Cell number.
"Hello." Nick answered in a jittery voice unsure of what Greg would say.
"Nick it's me, I got your message." Greg replied, more comfortable then he was a few moment prior.
"I am sorry G," Nick said in a comforting voice.
"It's alright I understand. Where are you? I hear traffic."
"Outside your door," Nick answered lightly knocking.
Greg opened the door, hanging up his phone, his eyes widened as Nick offered him a dozen red roses, stepping just inside the door.
“Forgive me?” Nick asked, smiling, feeling terrible he’d taken his anger out on Greg.
"YES!" Greg exclaimed grabbing him and hauling him into the apartment, slamming the door behind him. Within seconds he was wrapped around Nick's body planting sweet kisses all over his face.
"Hey, down boy," Nick chuckled as he tried to break away from Greg's grasp. "Give a guy time to take off his coat," He added slipping out of his coat.
"That isn't all you are gonna take off." Greg played tugging at Nick's shirt roughly lifting it over his head. "Muuuuuuuuuuch better already," He chuckled evilly as he pawed at Nick's bare chest.
Nick set the flowers down on the table and took Greg into his arms gently pulling Greg's shirt off and dropping it to the floor. He pulled him close and rocked with him for a moment before placing a gentle kiss on his lips. "Do you remember when you said I'd spoil you?" He asked running his hands up Greg's spine.
"Mmmmmhmmm." Greg responded leaning into Nick more, nestling his mouth against the curve of his neck.
"I think you may have been wrong," Nick murmured softly placing a kiss on Greg's shoulder. "You are going to spoil me," He added dragging his tongue over Greg's neck.
Greg grew limp in Nick's grasp, his hands moved slowly up Nick's back pulling him toward the living room. He wasn't wasting anymore time. He felt Nick slip out of his shoes and kick them to the side, he tugged harder till Nick started moving with him. They walked still in a locked embrace into the living room before falling, crashing on the couch. "Ah Nick?" Greg asked as he started to laugh. "I think we broke the couch," He continued before hysterically laughing.
"You’re kidding?" Nick asked shocked as he felt the legs give way sending the couch crashing to the floor. "Whoops," He laughed with Greg who was slowly sliding up the now broken piece of furniture.
"Pull me back Nicky pull me back," He shouted grasping at Nick playfully as he felt them both begin to slide. "We so broke the couch," He remarked as he waited for Nick to get up.
Nick helped Greg to his feet and they both stood there looking at the couch. Eventually Greg burst out laughing. "I must say if we'd landed any harder the neighbor downstairs would have something to talk about," He told Nick, still laughing not really able to believe what just happened.
"Guess we are furniture shopping on our day off huh?" Nick asked giving Greg a look. "You set this up," He accused reaching over and playfully grabbing Greg.
"I most certainly did not, and I resent that you'd think I would," Greg retorted trying not to laugh at him.
"Let's go to bed and pick this up when we decide to get up," Nick suggested pulling Greg's hand, motioning toward the bedroom door.
