Just wanted everyone to know that I've deleted the most recent post here, which was a fic about Nick and Greg 'finding God' and basically realising that their love was 'wrong' and breaking up. Obviously this is not a view shared by the majority of the writers here, and I know many of you have religious beliefs as well as being a fan of the love, and I think it was pretty much an insult to you all and that fic really doesn't have anything to do with this comm. I know some of you have already read it, and I'm sure you'll agree with my decision.

ETA: I would also like to make sure that the author's private journal isn't flamed over this. People have the right to post what they want in their private journals, even if we don't agree with it.

I didn't see it either, so I can't really jdge whether it was also the authors belief or if it was just 'helping the fic'. But I think it is a really good idea that you deleted it, since I am sure people would have felt uncomfortable and hey this is a comm about the love of two gay men, we already have to fight against enough prejudice. So here we should at least not have to fight with stuff like that for at least once.

whilst i am a fan of "I dislike what you say but I defend your right to say it," I suspect posting such a story (which I did not read) in a comm such as this was perhaps little more than trolling for flames.

So deleting the story and explaining why was probably the best move any mod could have done. *supports*

Hi there. I just wanted to say that I think you made the right decision. While everyone has every right to their opinion, this site was clearly not the place to post it. Perhaps the author should find some anti-slash, or anti-gay site to post it to. I'm sure that it would get a better reception then it found here.

Thanks. I have no problem that the author wrote it, or posted it to their own journal, because that's obviously their belief and nothing I say will change that, but to come to a community that celebrates the love between two human beings and post something like that, then it becomes my problem and I won't have that here. I'm very happy to see it had got deleted. The fic wasn't a story it was an agenda the author wanted to post. Their motives seemed to me to be either to start a war or preach at the comm.

So I'm very thankful it was deleted because it doesn't belong on this great comm about Nick and Greg.

I believe strongly that each person has the right to free speech. That being said, there is time and place for everything. The choice of this community to post her story was an act of proselytizing, and therefor inappropriate. Her (or his? I don't remember) goal to "re-educate" those of us who do write slash was ill considered at least.

Still, having the strength of your convictions is a wonderful thing. I do understand that some religious movements expect their adherents to preach. I love that part of our freedom, that we can do something like this, even if we get "our asses handed to us".

Well, I totally agree with you decision in this case *support(. Everyone has a right to believe and say what they wish, but to post a pretty much anti-Nick/Greg story in a Nick/Greg community seems pretty redundant. These communities are created so that people of similar views can congregrate and so that people of non-similiar views can easily avoid :/

Just wanted the say I agree completely with your decision to delete this. On top of that, I wanted to compliment you on the way you handled the situation: posting a warning in her LJ and managing this in a calm fashion.

And can I just mention that the amount of comments that are at least semi-understanding instead of aggravated, really warmed my cold and cynical heart? I mean, I'm not a christian and don't believe in God, but I do respect other people's beliefs and I was really glad to see that the community is responding so mature to this. You all rock.

Just want to say that I think you handled this very well! I've read the story now and the comments, and I agree in the deleting, and really, no one wants an argument about it. There is different views, so just let's agree on disagree, and post in the communities where it belongs.

I know I haven't been participating in the comm. much lately, but wanted to say thanks for doing this. I am a Christian too, and shit like this person posted makes the rest of us look bad. I agree that it could have been done in a very different and better way and still kept the message. Besides any real fan of Nick and Greg know that those two just wouldn't change on a dime like that. They could have a two hour analytical discussion on the pros and cons of the snacks in the vending machine. lol

I agree in free speech but I also believe that you should use discretion and think things through before you say them. And posting what seems to be a homophobic fic (I didn't read it, thankfully) on a comm that says quite openly that the point is to write and discuss the love and relationship between two men and the fact that most of the stories here deal with that relationship as a romantic homosexual one shows an extreme lack of good judgement. Thanks to whomever found that and deleted it and I hope the author finds another place to vent their negativity.

I wasn’t so sure if I should post this, but it’s freedom of speech right?

So, I read the fic, just to see what the problem is and I thought it wasn’t well written, but there are a lot other writers out there in the internet who can’t write well, everyone has a different taste.
The person who wrote the story is a Nick and Greg fan, but no slash fan and he/she is very religious and this person got bashed because of his/her opinion. I don’t know if this fic should cause problems or if this is really her opinion and she thought it would be a nice idea to post the fic to this community, to people who are open–minded.

I don’t know what to think about this, some of you expect everyone to understand your LOVE for Nick and Greg, but then again you can't/won't accept her opinion.

One last thing; I don’t believe in God, I built my own opinion about this issue some years ago and I understand that this got deleted to not cause any damage on the com, but though I’m not into Nick/Greg anymore I felt the need to tell you my opinion on this, because I heard a lot about “Freedom of speech” and it seems to me that this is only allowed when it’s something positive about Nick and Greg.

In my opinion, in regard to this issue, it's sort of like why you can't yell "Fire!" in the middle of a crowded theater. If we're talking about this in terms of 'law' etc - Freedom of speech can, and has been restricted to protect the majority.

And while I disagree with people bashing her, I do agree that it should have been deleted to protect the rights of the majority. In terms of this comm, it's a place for positivity for Nick and Greg, but it's not to say that she's restricted from posting other places.

I'm sure you understand that this is a pro-slash site, and posting an anti-gay fiction was misguided at best. Like I said to you on your private journal, I'm not telling you that you can't have your beliefs, or post them in your own journal or other comms. You are entitled to have your beliefs.

While we do accept some friendship fics, the majority of those have pre-slash tendencies. And they are also gay-friendly.

And like has been mentioned several times, actually going into Nick and Greg's psyche, asking meaningful questions and trying to find answers for them, would have been a better way to go about this topic.

I am a Roman Catholic but TOTALLY disagree with the churches teachings on homosexuality. I am glad this post was deleted before I saw it, this space is for like-minded people to get together and feel that the mods are right, this may have caused all out war. Not what any of us want. Mods you are great and have excellent judgement, I dont envy you. xxx

Didn't see the post, and I think I'm glad I didn't. Why post an anti-slash story on a slash com?? Why should finding God make someone decide that being gay is "wrong". It's not exactly something you choose to be: it's coded in your genetic makeup.
I am a Christian, but I don't see why that should make me anti-gay. My church has ordained gay ministers, and has performed gay marriages...and I'm proud of it for that. I wouldn't want to belong to a church that excluded people. I thought the main message of Christianity was supposed to be LOVE.
