The house is quiet as he slowly pushes the door open, watching to make sure Tilly doesn't sneak out again to "play" with Mrs. Tyner's birds. Nick wants to avoid getting the second version of that lecture for the rest of his life if at all possible. Thankfully, it seems that Tilly is content to chase the random cricket or spider around, dropping them at Greg's feet when it strikes her fancy.

"Why does she always bring these to me? I don't want a dead beetle."
"She's trying to impress you, G. It's like a hunter coming home to his family and flopping a couple of geese down on the table for everyone to eat."
"If it has six legs and an exoskeleton, it's not getting anywhere near my mouth." Greg looks down at the kitten that is watching him intently.
"Bring me home a cow so I can have a steak...then we'll talk."

She's yet to bring them anything resembling a mammal and Nick is fine with that. Bugs he can handle. Furry little mice with beady eyes...not so much.
He closes the door quickly, trying to be as quiet as possible so as not to wake Greg. The younger man is spending his third day sick in bed "suffering" from what he insists is plague. Nick considers himself lucky for not coming down with it as well, but doesn't mind playing nursemaid to an ailing lover.
Setting down the container of minestrone from Greg's favorite hole in the wall cafe, Nick toes off his shoes and slides them into the hall closet. He puts together a small meal for Greg consisting of the soup, oyster crackers, chamomile tea and some juice and carries it down the hall to their room, smiling at the sight before him on the bed. Greg is sprawled out on his back, one hand stretched out towards Nick's pillow. His other hand is resting on his chest, curled protectively around a soundly sleeping Tilly.
"Cats do like napping in warm places," he says to himself. And Greg is still warm with a low-grade fever. Nothing like the hundred and two he was sporting the night before, but still enough to cause him discomfort if the tangle of sheets around his legs meant anything. Nick places the tray of food down onto the bedside table with a dull thump, waking up Tilly in the process. She gives him a look - as if to tell him to be quiet and not wake her nice warm pillow. Too late for that though as Greg stirs, watery eyes opening and a slow tired smile forming on his lips.
"Well if it isn't my favorite Nurse Nicky. Time for the sponge bath?"
"Don't you wish. Time for dinner...if you can separate yourself from your mistress that is." He laughs as Greg gently nudges Tilly onto the bed.
"She brought me a grasshopper earlier. Figured it was time I let her know I cared."
"Does this mean that since I brought you food, I get to drape myself all over you?"
"You're always welcome to lay all over me or under me whenever you want, Nick," he says with a smirk.
"Now gimme my soup."
