Ch 6
The Plan in action.

Nick/Greg

No spoilers or warnngs.

Yeah, I own them just like I own Time In A Bottle...not the song, actual time.... LOL

“Hey, Nick. Did you get a message from Grissom?” Sara asked as she
walked into the garage.

“Uh, yeah. Why?” she he heard him answer from under a car.

“Oh, I figured we could ride together,” she said squatting down near
where his feet were showing out from under the car.

“Cool. Know what it’s about?” he grunted as he tried to maneuver
something on the underside of the car.

“I guess we’ll find out when we get there. Meet you at my car at 6:00.” she
got up to leave.

Nick grunted and kept working under the car.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
"Hey, Sanders,” said Hodges as he walked into the locker room.
“What?” said Greg glancing up from tying his shoes.
“Oh, I just wanted to let you know you have a flat.”
“A flat?” Greg was puzzled. His car was fine when he came in from his
case 20 minutes ago.
“Yeah, I saw it on my way to get something from my car.” Hodges
motioned over his shoulder. “Thought I would tell you.”
“D***,”
“You can call a tow truck and get a cab home…” Hodges said trying to
sound helpful.
“That’s just it. I gotta be somewhere,” he stood and grabbed his gym
bag out of his locker. “Cabs don’t go out that far.”
“Oh.” Hodges just stood there watching him pack his things in his
bag. “I ah, I could take you… to make up for the hangover from when we
went to Dan’s Bar last week.”
Greg sighed and said “Yeah, okay.” Greg didn’t look up so he missed
Hodges self satisfied smirk.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sara drove and Nick sat slumped in his seat. He had his head turned
so he would look like he was looking at the scenery but he wasn’t. He
was thinking about how much he missed Greg.

Sara chewed on her lower lip and hoped she was doing the right thing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hodges followed Greg’s directions and only got “lost” once. They
arrived at the cabin 15 minutes late. Greg was perturbed, but didn’t
say anything. After all, without Hodges, he would be at the garage
with his car. He grabbed his kit and climbed out of Hodges’ car.
He went inside and saw Nick standing, handcuffed to the potbelly stove
at the back of the living room wall.
“What the…?” stuttered Greg.
“Can you just unlock these and let’s get out of here?” Nick was
exasperated.
Just then Greg heard Hodges pull away.
He dropped his kit and ran out into the yard. He yelled for Hodges to
stop, but Hodges just waved and kept driving.
He slowly went back inside. He had forgotten Nick was handcuffed in
his hurry to catch Hodges.
“Well, at least you finally came back. Would you undo these please?”
he asked as he rattled the cuffs.
“Oh, yeah… but uh, I don’t have a key.”
“It’s on the kitchen table. At least that was what Sara said before
she left.”
“Sara?” he muttered. He also said some other words not fit to print as
he went to get the key and set Nick free.
“Just how, Man?” Asked Greg as he unlocked the cuff.
“I’ll try to explain after I go to the uh…” Nick motioned toward the
back room.
“Oh, yeah. Okay.” said Greg tossing the key on the end table.
Nick rushed off to the bathroom and Greg sat down on the sofa.
Both pulled out their cell phones. Neither were surprised they didn’t
work where they were at. Both tried to think if they had saw any
neighbors nearby. Both came to the sad conclusion that any cabins they
had passed in the last several miles were empty.
Finally Nick sighed and went out to face Greg.
Greg heard Nick open the door and braced himself.
“Well,” said Nick at the same time Greg said, “So..”
Nick sat on the other end of the sofa. There was an uncomfortable
silence. Finally Nick said “Any ideas?”
Greg had been sitting there wishing that he and Nick were on a lovers
retreat so, yeah, he had ideas, just not about how to get back to
Vegas.
“No?” said Greg looking around the room.
“Me either,” Nick thought a minute. Nick looked at Greg. “We were
set up.”
“Yeah,” he sighed and looked at his hands.
“Any idea why?” Nick persisted.
Greg said “No,” and headed for the kitchen. He knew why, but he would
never tell Nick it was because Sara and Hodges knew he was in love with
Nick.
Greg started rummaging around in the cabinets. Nick had followed him
into the kitchen. “What are you looking for?”
“Water bottles, food bars, stuff to take on a hike.”
“A hike?” Nick was confused.
“Yeah. Seems the only way we are getting outta here.”
“Come on, G. They wont leave us out here forever. They will come back
to get us before we are due in for work.”
Greg turned on him shaking a can of beans. “Work? That’s what? Two
days and three night?” Greg started sounding hysterical.
“Calm down G.” Nick took a step closer hoping to calm him, but he just
got more upset. The can of beans slipped from his shaking hand and
went rolling across the floor. Nick froze. Greg was reminding him of a
half wild skittish horse.
“I am calm!” yelled Greg as he turned back to the cabinets.
Nick was hurt that Greg would rather hike back to Vegas than spend 2
days near him. “Fine. When you get there, you can send someone after
me, or I’ll wait till Sara comes whenever she decided she would when
she left me here,” Nick went back in the living room.
Greg followed. He went and snatched up his kit and headed back into
the kitchen. He pulled out the papers and dusting powder and everything
else he figured he wouldn’t need on his hike. He left the first aid kit
and flashlight. He added water and fruit bars. No granola bars had been
found. He added some snacks he found and stalked out to the living
room.
Nick was on the couch reading. Greg got madder. "I left some stuff on
the counter. Would you make sure to get it when I send someone out here
to rescue you?”
“Sure, G,” Nick called over his shoulder. “Have fun.”
“Arug!” he growled. He hit the screen door with the palm of his hand
and kept walking.
