Title: Hidden
Word Count: 638 - haha, it got really long.
Disclaimer: Yes, I own CSI. That's why this season sucked. Really.
Warnings/Spoilers: 102 'Cool Change' if you squint. Really hard.
Rating: PG, maybe.
Characters/Pairing: Greg/OMC, Nick, Sara [can you seem my hint?]
Author's Note: This is my take on the prompt 'Pride' for the new challenge at [livejournal.com profile] crimeinthelight, because too many people believe this is a sin. Idiots.

Greg hadn't hidden his pride in years.

Leaving San Francisco was harder than he imagined, having to leave the life he'd known for more than twenty years, abandoning his family and friends; Nathan. There's no way he can forget his boyfriend of nearly two years. The person who he thought truly cared for him, the same person who dumped him as soon as the news of a new job (Nathan! Las Vegas accepted me!) and hadn't given him a chance to explain that he'd wanted him to come along. He'd flown out to Nevada as soon as possible after that, aching to get away from the hurt that twisted his heart every time he thought of it. He'd said goodbye to everyone at the lab where he felt he grew up, promising one of the CSIs he'd say hello to his new boss, because somehow the two knew each other from the past (and he'd never guessed that she'd arrive in Las Vegas not two years later).

During his first few months at Vegas' crime lab, he'd been a nervous wreck, stumbling over his words when Gil Grissom would come near (he knows everyone at the SFPD would laugh at the thought, that much he knows for sure - Greg Sanders? Nervous? Not confident? No, never.) The people were nice enough, and so was the environment (not to mention his job - top DNA analyst at one of the best labs in the country - and he was proud of that title, too) but it just wasn't home yet.

One night after shift, though, as he walked into the locker room, he noticed Nick sitting on the bench, a huge grin lighting up his features, brown eyes shining at Greg, who couldn't help but smile back (it was contagious, he couldn't help himself).

"Just made Level 2 CSI, man. Passed the test, too," Nick had said, nodding towards the gun in his right hand, and the new ID grasped in his left.

Then he'd noticed Nick, eyebrows raised (he was too afraid of getting hurt again to admit he was falling in love with the Texan), staring at the small rainbow necklace dangling from his neck (he wonders if Nathan still wears his matching one, and he tells himself that it's his own pride that keeps him from taking it off) and he self-consciously hid it behind his shirt before turning away, looking back at his locker (he wouldn't admit he was scared that Nick had a gun in his hands).

Not hearing Nick come up behind him a few moments later, he jumped when a hand landed on his shoulder. A soft touch, not harsh, no rage hidden behind it, no fist raised to land against his cheek, only a finger traveling down to take out the small chain again. He'd twisted his face to look into Nick's eyes but only found a touch of adoration and a small smile (Nick must've seen his hesitation and fear, and oh, how he wants to kiss those lips).

He'd swallowed heavily when he saw Nick raise his other hand (the one that once held his Glock) and he doesn't have time to wonder what's going to happen because the fingers that were toying with his necklace left it to pull out a small rainbow bracelet on Nick's own wrist.

He knows he's gaping, mouth hanging open and eyes wide, and somewhere in his mind he knows he's reaching for it. He fingers it, just like Nick did to his, and he risks a glance at Nick's face, and all he sees is understanding and acceptance.

"Don't worry, you're safe here." Nick says, and he knows it's true. It's coming from someone he trusts.

No one knows how much he appreciates not having to hide it from one more person.
