*mod post* updates

Okay hopefully you aren't too annoyed by *Mod Posts* so far, but since there's a lot to do right now and we actually have ben pretty busy today I just thought I'll keep you posted about what has happened. *i promise I won't post a Mod post every day, just maybe in the beginning*

Well, I can say that the tagging of entries is completed, but have to add, tagging just goes back to post from Jan 1 2006 until today. I tagged a few more before that date, since I thought the major ones and the pretty popular ones should be tagged completely, with all their chapters. You might have noticed that the tags, which were so far on the left side, disappeared, that's just because it did look too chaotic with all the tags in that list, and it also extended the site. So we decided on hiding the tag thing and you can now find all tags when you go to the link box on the left of the page and click on 'tags" *much thanks to outxofxcontext for actually giving me the link to our very own tag table. *didn't know we even have something like that*

If there should be users who want to see there fics to be tagged as well, cause they have been posted before Jan 1 and neither belong to a series that already did start before Jan 1 and continued after Jan 1, so please feel free to tag these stories all by yourself. Thank you

dagdrommer has been and still is working on the layout, and had actually already send us some ideas and we were already arguing about colors, but since the generous gift of getting a paid account we of course have now a lot of new possibilities.

You also might have noticed that there is a new Nick/Greg icon in the left corner. It isn't my best work, but that was one of the few that never happened to be published somewhere, and therefore won't be used by anyone else. I just thought with all the new stuff we also might get a new icon as well. And don't worry, with the new design there will also be some icons, or maybe just one *since I don't really know what we would do with more than one icon*. So it will be just for a few days.

And...you might not believe it...but from today on we have a user info. Yes, you've read right, a user info, with all sort of information about the rules, how to post fics and the other usual stuff.  We might change a fw things with the user info during the next few days, adding a few things, maybe deleting stuff. Depending on  our mood  =)

We also did think it would be quite nice to have a link box, with links were we did think would be useful for you, such as links to the homepage of CBS, to WMTDB and of course to our sister community nick_greg which is from now on a non fictional community that offers ficfinders, meta and character information.

There is one thing I would to ask you. When tagging your stories please check you tags clearly, because although you can edit them after wards the wrong tags will  still be archived and just the mods can delete them . So please make sure that titles won't include any comas, that the spelling is correct and that the fic tag will always be fic: "name of fic".
Of course serenity151979 and me will have an eye on the tags, but you would really halp us by just checking the tags. *But don't worry, if it happens, I had to find out just a few hours ago, that I had 6 wrong tags as well, while tagging yesterday night and today in the morning*

Last but not least we would like to just say how completely overwhelmed we are by all the support your giving us. That really is wonderful, so we know we do things kinda right. It is kinda breathtaking to see some of you putting in so much effort, by suggesting things, helping about stuff or just pointing things out. Together we can really make this a great community. We have been quite motivated the past two days and we sure as well will be motivated for the future as well.
If you all just think about how this place looked like two days ago and how much we already did achieve...it is just unbelievable. Thank you so much.

While it's great that this community is paid for and so much customization is available, I think since this is a mostly fanfic community, it's best to keep the actual entry pages in default LJ form. It's easier for reading and commenting's sake. Now, if this were a private journal or just for discussion, I'd say hey, go to town making the entry page look like the community page. But since not everyone will want their stories shown in this format, I think it's a reasonable issue to bring up. I'd rather not have to do fake LJ cuts to my own journal.

But, as was the point with my *last* suggestion, this is not (regardless of likely assumptions) a demand or expectation--it is an opinion stated so that it can be known that it's an issue to at least someone (yes, I am a person, too). And the only way you'll know if it's an issue for anyone else (thus, the 'majority') would be for it to be stated in the first place.

Is there a way to change the default LJ view to a different color, through LJ options? Or will the plain text behind an lj-cut remain black on white?

The default view is easier for me to read as well, but won't we lose the soft background color...? Maybe I am misunderstanding, but I thought this was a problem for some user's eyesight.

Thanks for your comment, we're going to look into if it's possible to have the default page within the layout that's being worked on (I'm not 100% sure about it so will contact dagdrommer about it). It may or may not be possible, but I'll certainly find out.

I know with my paid account, I do have the option to have it similar in the actual 'entry' page, and just uncheck a box to leave it normal. I'd assume it should be the same...

I am workin on the new design now - but I have to say I am rather new to LJ and paid account - so I am just trying to figure things out here. Maybe you can guide me to where that option is?

I have now gone though the options to the layout we have chosen for this community, and unfortunatly that is not an option in this particular layout (The options differ a lot from layout to lauout).

If anyone has the same layout and know a way to get around this, please tell me, otherwise, there isn't much I can do about that. There were so many other things we liked about this layout, so I think changing layout is out of the question.

(the layout we use - well as a base anyway - is Smooth Sailing)

Ok! :) It's like this:

1) Go to Manage > Customize [quick link (http://www.livejournal.com/customize/)]

2) Click on the button that reads "Edit Customizations" (under "Change Individual Settings").

3) It'll take you to a page that looks like this one (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/outxofxcontext/cust_col.jpg). Click on "Layout".

4) Once you're in the "layout" menu, scroll down until you find this (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/outxofxcontext/cust_lay01.jpg). Change the settings this way (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y242/outxofxcontext/cust_lay02.jpg).

And you're done :) Let me know if you have any trouble.

Meh, I decided to come back from the dead, mostly to actually enjoy the cookies :p. Thanks for the double credit, but, really, we can count both the tiny-little-mini layout help I gave dagdrommer and the colourbar as "extra help". I don't think it's fair to have my name appear twice in the credits when I've done so very little, while others who only appear once have done (/are doing) so much :).
Also, I forgot to tell you this yesterday: if you want me to change the text in the colourbar (having it say something other than "N/G is love"), just let me know :)

This is so great. I love you for doing that, and you soooo are going to get cookies until you can't see them anymore =)
But maybe...would it be possible to do the colors slightly stronger, just slightly, if not that's okay as well, since serenity151979 actually likes the colors that way. So, it's up to you, but you DON'T have to change the colors. I just thought I ask, since what you did so far is really really a great and huge help. Thanks.

I really don't mind editing the colourbar. When I make a graphic for someone else, I want that person to be completely happy with it (I mean, if they're going to use it, it should be the way they want it to be, right?), and if that takes making changes, I'll make them :)

I used 4 different texts, so you can pick the one you like better. And, of each text, I made two versions: one with brighter colours, and the other with the faded ones you've already seen. I posted them here (http://outofcontext.dreamhosters.com/banners/colourbars.html).
Everything is changeable :)
