Jan. 27th, 2006 06:19 pmHey everyone. It may seem like I'm new to the community, but I'm not. I've been reading the posts in this community for quite a while. I've even commented on some of your posts as anonymous with the subject as Gaby (my nickname). This is my second Nick/Greg fanfic. The first Nick/Greg fanfic I wrote is still in progress so keep your eyes out for it. Seeing this is the first time I ever post any of the fanfics I've ever written, I ask that you please be gentle with my story.
Title: No One Else
Rating: PG-13
Genre: angst
Warning: I at first didn't put any names except for whose point of view it is. This is because I thought it would make the story more interesting. Towards the end of the story, you will see who is being described.
The first time Warrick had noticed he cast if off as reading too much into the situation. All they were doing was talking, even if their heads were too close together. The second time Warrick saw them he knew they were together. Both of them had come out of the storage closet with their clothes disheveled, lips swollen and grins. Warrick rememberd feeling as if he had been punched. His only love was taken by another CSI. From then on, Warrick had avoided hanging out with either of them. He was sure neither really noticed. After all, everyone in the graveyard shift was working double even triple shifts. If someone was lucky to catch a night off, that person would use it to catch up on sleep. Not that Warrick was lucky enough to get sleep. His dreams consumed him with thoughts of the two of them together. Once, the two had gotten into an argument. Warrick had known this because the two had avoided each other even though they each looked sad. He knew it was mean and selfish of him, but part of him felt like cheering. If those two broke up, he'd have a chance. Unfortunately, it seemed that fate was working against him. At the end of the shift the two were talking again.
For weeks nothing out of the ordinary occurred. Then one day Warrick was called to work on another case-his love's case. His love had gotten hurt and though he showed calmness, inside he felt like screaming. When everyone had left, he had crept into the hospital room and stared into his face . The face that haunted his dreams and yet belonged to another. Warrick had decided to stay next to his love. A few minutes later, he walked in. The person who had stolen Warrick's chance of being with his love. Warrick had forced himself to stay in the shadows while the other guy whispered promises and sweet nothings to the one he and Warrick loved. Soon the other guy had fallen asleep, and Warrick had gotten up slowly and left. After the accident, the two lovers seemed closer. It took every ounce of Warrick's self control to not punch him. How could no one notice them? Sure it had taken him to catch them coming out of the storage closet to notice, but after it had seemed so obvious. Their glances, the way they touched each other, and their joking screamed out their relationship. Warrick felt as if he were drowning in his sorrow. Then something occurred that made him feel guilty. The one that had stolen his love away got hurt. The guilt had been overwhelming. Sure Warrick sometimes hated him and wished harm on him, but now it made him feel guilty. After all, the two were supposed to be friends. Plus there was the fact that seeing his love hurt for his lover, made Warrick feel like an idiot.
Soon the two lovers were reunited and Warrick felt happy and sad. Happy in seeing his friend back in one piece and not too badly hurt. Sadness in seeing that the two were meant to be together. If the first accident brought them together, the second one bound them forever. It wasn't a suprise that the two came out and announced their engagement. Everyone had been surprised. They were more surprised to hear that Warrick had known and had kept it a secret. When the two lovers walked up to Warrick, he turned around and left the break room. One of them followed him. "You're not against us are you?" Warrick laughed sadly not looking at him. "I'm not against same sex couples. I'd be against myself. I'm just against the thought of the two of you." "Why? He's pretty cool, you know that. We make each other happy and that's all that matters." "I know. And it hurts to know that you're the one the makes him happy. That I've never had a chance." Warrick did look up now only to find the whole graveyard shift staring at him. His love stared at him with sorrow in his eyes. Warrick practically ran from everyone and sped home. Now all he could do was stare at the walls and think of what life would have been like if his love had fallen for him and not the other guy.
Later on that day Warrick was visited by no other than his love. "I'm sorry I never noticed that you cared for me in that way. I always thought of you as a friend and I thought you saw me in the same way. It hurts to know that I'm the cause of your pain." "Don't," Warrick walked up to him. "It's not your fault. We can't control who we love. And if he makes you happy, then I'm happy for the two of you." At this statement Warrick found himself being hugged tightly. "You'll find your soulmate soon. I know it." A kiss on his cheek was next and then his love walked out. Warrick just stared as his heart broke even more. I did find my soulmate. My best friend just happened to steal him away before I had the chance. Several weeks later Warrick started dating a guy named Eric. Eric worked in a big company producing products and testing them out. He had his own rock band that played in several clubs on weekends. Everyone commented on Warrick's boyfriend. It was no secret that Eric was very similar to the labrat turned CSI that they knew. They don't know anything, thought Warrick as he slept next to Eric. No one comes close to Greg. No one. Warrick stared at Eric. There were times when he could push his feelings for Greg aside and then there were times like these. Times when silence found him and his thoughts revolved around Greg. Eric shifted beside him interrupting his thoughts. Warrick looked at him wistfully. Nick was lucky. He had Greg and all Warrick had was Eric. Someone he could have fallen for in another life if Greg hadn't existed. As tears fell down his face, Warrick could feel his heart break again and again. No one else but Nick could hold Greg. No one else but Nick could make love to Greg. No one else but Nick could chase away Greg's tears. No one else but Nick could make Greg laugh or see Greg's smile directed at him. No one else but Nick could have taken Greg away from him. And no one else but Greg could shatter Warrick's heart.
