[identity profile] bflyw.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] nickngreg

There are some well established facts about Nick and Greg, that 'everybody' writes in their stories. For some of the facts, I wonder where they originally came from. So I ask you here, do you know the origin of these facts (please name the episode if there is any…)?

1. Greg having fish.
2. Nick being a cop in Dallas before moving to LV.
3. Bobby being gay and having a daughter.
4. Greg’s car…

For the Gregory Hojem Sanders fact: (I have also used this one in one of my stories), but the truth is, Grissom says in let the seller beware: "your mother's middle name is Hojem..." indicating that Greg in fact is not having that name.

Hm.. that is all I can think of right now. I probably remember a few more things as soon as I have posted…

I know that number 3 came from a planned storyline that CSI was going to do. Not a major one, but basically Bobby was supposed to meet his partner and his daughter in the show. I don't know if it was linked to a case or if it were just a little human interest story, but it was advertised pretty heavily by Bobby (well, the guy that plays him).

However, the scene was eventually cut, which made him look foolish, but ah well. Fan fic writers take this to be a pretty canon thing now. It might happen in the future.

Greg's car was pictured in the ep 'Early Rollout' that I know for sure. It was a VW Jetta(?), silver.

Greg's fish. I'm not sure that's canon, I think it well may be fanon, taking fromv an inspired author who wrote it first, I couldn't tell you.

Nick being cop. That is canon, listed in his bio created by the writers. Can't give you any examples of it being stated in an ep though. Sorry.

And as for Bobby being gay and having a daughter, that was going to be canon and even filmed for an ep but was pulled because CBS is too much of a huge wimp to portray gay people as anything other than a victim of a crime. *sigh* Maybe one day they'll actually have the balls to do it right.

Oh, well I found the info on Nick here : http://www.crimelab.nl/characters.php?series=1&lname=Stokes&fname=Nick

It looks just like the official bio, only better. : )

Actually it wasn't so much that they didn't have the guts to put it in so much as it was out of place and almost seemed like his daughter was going to be kidnapped or something, so they left it out not wanting to mislead people.

Grissom actually said that Gregs mothers Maiden name was Hojem not middle so it is possible that he may have used both last names. It also say Gregory Hojem Sanders in the CSI Companion book.

His mother's MAIDEN name is Hojem; not middle. Therefore, it's entirely possible (though how probable, who could say) that she chose to give her maiden name to her son as a middle name. My grandmother did that to my dad.

My friend's first name is her mother's maiden name, so it's entirely possible.

You know dagdrommer, I can't help but wonder if Greg's mother name was Højem... It does sound like it, in that weird norwegian way of ours...

I'm pretty sure that Greg having fish is fanon, not canon, coming from [livejournal.com profile] geekwriter143's One Good Man.

According to Wikipedia, Nick "spent his first three years out of college on the Dallas police force, then transferred to the Dallas crime lab, spending one year as CSI level One before transferring to Las Vegas." Granted, that could be wrong, and I have no idea where they got their info from, but I'm pretty sure that's cannon.

Someone beat me to the Bobby explanation.

And, I haven't the slightest clue about Greg's car.

The Nick/Dallas thing I think is still up in the air because I'm pretty sure different bios in different places say different things. For example, the bio that came with the fingerprint kit I got (yeah, I'm a CSI whore, so what? ;)) doesn't mention him being on Dallas PD, but it does mention him being a CSI in Dallas. So basically... who knows about that one.

The cop thing is like the college thing with Nick. The bio says one thing, but he states in an episode that he went elsewhere.
I guess if we really want to know, there is 100 hours of the series to watch for interesting details.

Totally random LJ surfing, but I thought it'd be interesting to answer...

Possibly Greg having fish comes from the canon fact that that guy is an ocean lover (SCUBA, surfing, sailing). He SCUBA dives, so there's a good chance he likes looking at tropical fish. Otherwise, it's fanon, unless I missed something.

I don't know much Re: Nick; Greggo is my area of study :)

Greg's car is in fact a VW Passat, which is a bit pricier than a Jetta. For one thing, it has four doors.

As far as I'm aware, nothing has said that Greg's first name is Gregory, not even soft canon like the CSI Companion. But the Companion does say his 'middle' name is Hojem.

If you're interested in a rather insanely large number of canon facts (with a liberal sprinkling of me pondering and pontificating), Master of DNA (http://www.princessartemis.com/csi.html) has a list along with a timeline of style so people can write his hair the correct way in any given timeframe. I don't usually just wander in and randomly spam, but since you were asking about where some common fanon came from, I thought you might be interested in great gobs of canon :) I wrote it with fandom in mind.

Geeky car update: the Jetta (sold in the UK as the Bora) and the Passat are both four-door saloons/sedans - the difference is that the Passat is the more upmarket "executive" car.

Maybe you guys in the US have a two-door Jetta, but I couldn't find one on the VW website and as it's not a hatchback that would be weird.

I only know because I nearly bought a Bora but I couldn't afford one : ( I need to get a job in a lab!

The CBS bio has been changed recently, but it did mention him being a cop in Dallas. They had written in there that his dad didn't really like him doing that, being a Judge and his mother was a prosecuter I think, so then he ended up deciding as a comprise with his father to be a CSI.
