where did the facts come from?
Nov. 7th, 2005 06:32 pmThere are some well established facts about Nick and Greg, that 'everybody' writes in their stories. For some of the facts, I wonder where they originally came from. So I ask you here, do you know the origin of these facts (please name the episode if there is any…)?
1. Greg having fish.
2. Nick being a cop in
3. Bobby being gay and having a daughter.
4. Greg’s car…
For the Gregory Hojem Sanders fact: (I have also used this one in one of my stories), but the truth is, Grissom says in let the seller beware: "your mother's middle name is Hojem..." indicating that Greg in fact is not having that name.
Hm.. that is all I can think of right now. I probably remember a few more things as soon as I have posted…

Date: 2005-11-07 05:53 pm (UTC)Greg's fish. I'm not sure that's canon, I think it well may be fanon, taking fromv an inspired author who wrote it first, I couldn't tell you.
Nick being cop. That is canon, listed in his bio created by the writers. Can't give you any examples of it being stated in an ep though. Sorry.
And as for Bobby being gay and having a daughter, that was going to be canon and even filmed for an ep but was pulled because CBS is too much of a huge wimp to portray gay people as anything other than a victim of a crime. *sigh* Maybe one day they'll actually have the balls to do it right.

Date: 2005-11-07 05:59 pm (UTC)Nick being a cop is NOT written in the official bio (just checked AGAIN).
Maybe it was earlier though, allthough I can't find it in any of the bio's I have ever had for my CSI site as well...
As for the Bobby story: Wish CBS would have the guts! Or better - wish they had written Greg/Nick as canon! :-)

Date: 2005-11-07 06:27 pm (UTC)There is 207 people with the last name Hojem in Norway. So there is actually possible it might be. But I think it is a bit far-fetched that Grissom would know that it is a Norwegian name, when it is only 207 people by that name, and it is so little known that even us Norwegians don't think it exist!
They should have called him something else...

Date: 2005-11-07 07:18 pm (UTC)According to Wikipedia, Nick "spent his first three years out of college on the Dallas police force, then transferred to the Dallas crime lab, spending one year as CSI level One before transferring to Las Vegas." Granted, that could be wrong, and I have no idea where they got their info from, but I'm pretty sure that's cannon.
Someone beat me to the Bobby explanation.
And, I haven't the slightest clue about Greg's car.

Date: 2005-11-08 12:13 am (UTC)Possibly Greg having fish comes from the canon fact that that guy is an ocean lover (SCUBA, surfing, sailing). He SCUBA dives, so there's a good chance he likes looking at tropical fish. Otherwise, it's fanon, unless I missed something.
I don't know much Re: Nick; Greggo is my area of study :)
Greg's car is in fact a VW Passat, which is a bit pricier than a Jetta. For one thing, it has four doors.
As far as I'm aware, nothing has said that Greg's first name is Gregory, not even soft canon like the CSI Companion. But the Companion does say his 'middle' name is Hojem.
If you're interested in a rather insanely large number of canon facts (with a liberal sprinkling of me pondering and pontificating), Master of DNA (http://www.princessartemis.com/csi.html) has a list along with a timeline of style so people can write his hair the correct way in any given timeframe. I don't usually just wander in and randomly spam, but since you were asking about where some common fanon came from, I thought you might be interested in great gobs of canon :) I wrote it with fandom in mind.

Date: 2005-11-09 09:44 am (UTC)Maybe you guys in the US have a two-door Jetta, but I couldn't find one on the VW website and as it's not a hatchback that would be weird.
I only know because I nearly bought a Bora but I couldn't afford one : ( I need to get a job in a lab!
