Off topic, I know, but the line on your icon (Why're you making a fort? Because they rock)... is it from a story or an episode or something? For all I know, it's on this very page, but I can only see one. Which, also, read_300300? Amuses me to no end.

No worries! It is from a story, although truthfully, I can not even remember which one...maybe someone here recalls.....I could hazard a guess, but it would probably be wrong, and then, I'd be all embarrassed, and I'd have to hang my head in shame...sigh...And um, your icon!?!? LOVE IT!! I always thought that Andrew was just a little bit in love with Warren, but as none of my friends watch(ed) Buffy, it was something that just lived in my head!! Something else that lived in my head was my own mini crush on Andrew!! Because he is so a young Greg Sanders!! Is this overshare!?!? Call me dense, but I don't get the "...read_300300? Amuses me to no end" statement....

I'm going to go find out what story my icon is from now...

Glad it's from a story. I wasn't sure if the line was from an episode and everyone was reading this and laughing at me. About Andrew being a young Greg Sanders? Completely. I got it into my head that they should write a version of that season four CSI episode "Butterflied" in which the vic is Tom Lenk and everyone's all "woah" 'cause he looks like Greg, but that's my desperate attempts at linking my obsessions. Oh, and the "read_300300? Amuses me to no end" was just me giving kudos to the person who made the icons waaaaay up there ^ because the only one I can see is the "Prude Cowboys Love It Up The Ass" one. Which makes me giggle a lot. Wow, I talk a lot...

Nobody would laugh at you....well, I certainly wouldn't, and I don't think that most of the folks that I've come across around here would either! ;) And I totally agree with the "Butterflied" thing! Maybe tho, they could put him in an episode, as like Greg's brother or something of the like. Of course my family would probably kick me out, for being all ridiculously fangirlish and freaking out even more than I normally do about all things Greg in an episode....so, maybe, no, no they shouldn't do that, not even a little bit..... And also, I think that I'm right there with you on the whole talking alot thing!!

Follow this link....it will send you to the page where I originally got the icon from, but not only that, there is a link to the story that it is from.....there are also several other story based icons, and story links there as well....if you haven't already read them I would highly suggest doing so....it's made me want to re read some of my favorite stories!

Ah, this explains it. I was really confused as to why you commented on that icon entry since it's so old. Not that I minded you commenting. I really appreciate it.

Yeah, the fort one is from [livejournal.com profile] geekwriter143's WIP Not Even Poets, but I guess you know that already.

I really love the icons that you shared that day, so I was more than happy to send someone not familiar with them, over to have a look and I also felt that it was a good introduction to some really kick ass stories...Thanks again for making the icons....there were a couple that I had forgotten about....like the Top Gun one, for example....I so agree with that statement....and as I write this, I'm in the middle of re-reading Not Even Poets, which I love...all of her stories, really....

Okay, icons, right. I'm totally in love with number 5. If I didn't already have a sad Greg icon, I'd use it. I think I'm a little bit smitten with the black and white. It's really simple and the font is lovely. As far as icons go, less is usually more.

Since you asked for constructive criticism, I'll tell you what I liked and what I didn't.

I liked the text. It's funny or not so funny - appropriate for each icon. It's readable. The thing that annoys me most about icons is when the text is too small to read. Although some of the text is a little bigger than maybe it needs to be.

I'm not so sure about the font or font color on a few of them. Font is a hard thing, though. I often end up doubting the font I've chosen after I've completed an icon. And I have a friend who never thinks my font color choices are good, but I just ignore her most of the time because I like how it looks. Ultimately, if you like the font and the color, then that's all that matters. These are your icons, so you should do what you think looks good.

I'm not sure what program you're using, but adding a border is always a nice way to make an icon look a little more complete. That also depends on the icon, though. Some icons don't need borders. Again with the less is more.

Anyway, this was really good for a first effort. I won't even show you what my icons looked like before I got better at photoshop. And there are still times when I finish an icon, think it looks okay, then end up hating it two weeks later.

I think the main thing about font and sizing is that it should look like it blends with the icon. The picture and the text should go together so that they don't seem separate. They're one icon. They should look that way. If you want the text to really stand out, use a big font and a bright color. Be sure that it still goes with the icon, though. Try not to use a color that isn't in the cap unless you're doing it for a reason. Most pictures you use will have several different colors, even if they're just in the background. Using a color that there's only a slight amount of in the background is often a good choice for a font color.

I like the icon that you just commented back with. The text is very apparent because that's the point. It wouldn't have made sense for you to make a statement like that and use small, unobtrusive text. I think font and text are really the most difficult part of iconning. I know it's most often the thing that I end up disliking about an otherwise fantastic icon.
