Nick/Greg fic - Always Watching 1/1
Aug. 5th, 2005 11:49 pmI finally got a supernatural plot bunny :) I'd been waiting for one! After reading a beautiful Without a Trace fic in which Martin had wings, then seeing a Simpsons episode about an angel, a plot bunny hopped into my arms. This is one of my favorite ficlets that I've ever written. I just love this idea so much.
Title: Always Watching
Pairing: Nick/Greg
Chapter: 1/1
Rating: PG
Warnings: Character death...
Summary: Nick gets a late-night visitor. Futurefic.
X-posted.
Always Watching
November 8th, 2010
A cool autumn chill crept into Las Vegas, its sleeping residents slumbering under a clear, bright sky shot with stars. Lying on his bed, Nick Stokes pulled his sheets closer to his body.
Suddenly, a bright light woke Nick from his slumber and a strange warmth filled the room. He sat up, shielding his eyes. He saw his bedroom door swing open and a figure step into the room.
It was Greg.
He was dressed all in white, his messy hair looked bleached, and he seemed to be emitting a blinding glow from within, the source of the white light. He was smiling sadly. The door shut soundlessly as Greg stepped all the way into the room.
“Greg?” Nick was confused. He hadn’t seen Greg for three years, not since a job offer came in and Greg transferred to San Francisco.
“Hey, Nick.” There was something off about Greg’s voice. Nick noticed his eyes were dark, almost entirely black, and he limped and held an arm across his stomach as he approached the foot of Nick’s bed.
Something was very, very wrong.
“What’s happened?”
Greg shook his head. “I was on my way here, to Vegas. And there was an accident…on the highway.” He spoke slowly, as if it hurt to say each word.
“No!”
The man in white nodded. “I’m here now because…I wanted to see you before…”
“Before what?”
“Before…” Greg looked up towards the ceiling. “That.”
A tear rolled down Nick’s cheek, and when he looked up, he saw silent tears streaking Greg’s face too. “Why?” Nick choked.
“My time, I guess.”
“I loved you, Greg! When you left the lab it tore me apart…”
“I know. I felt the same way. But I had to go.” Greg was closer to Nick now.
Nick wiped a tear away. “Now this. You’ll be gone forever, Greg.”
Greg smiled. “I won’t be. Whenever you need me, Nick, I’ll be there. I’ll always be watching from above.” He leant down and kissed Nick on the forehead. He stepped backwards as he sadly waved good-bye, the bright light fading until Greg had disappeared completely.

The next day, Nick woke up strangely calm, despite the troubling events of the night before. He wondered if it had been a dream, until he turned on the morning news. The anchorman was describing a single-car crash on I-15.
“The victim was 35-year-old Greg Sanders, of San Francisco California, who used to work right here in Vegas-”
Nick turned off the TV. He didn’t want to hear anymore.
The funeral was held four days later in California. Nick attended, along with Cath and Sara and Warrick and the rest of Greg’s old co-workers. He could’ve sworn that, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Greg, dressed in white again.
Sometimes, Nick would feel a comforting hand on his shoulder when he was stressed or down, but whenever he turned to see who it was no one was ever there. He’d smile to himself, remembering Greg’s last promise.
A/N: I like this plot so much that I am also writing a Danny/Martin version with enough differences so it's similiar but not identical!

Date: 2005-08-06 04:17 am (UTC)Though, I was wary when I saw it was inspired by The Simpsons...haha, it'd be interesting if you had made this more like the angel skeleton episode!
