Hi everyone! I'm new to the Nick/Greg fandom, but I've been watching CSI and giggling like mad over Greg for about six months (which probably still makes me new compared to a lot of people...). I started watching because my roommate would watch them while I was on the computer, and I got sucked into it. Hard. I have yet to see all the episodes, and I didn't watch the fifth season (night classes and a VCR with The Thomas Crown Affair stuck in it).
So, I have some questions, because I'm attempting to write a story, and I'm not even sure it would work.
1) Nick being molested by the babysitter. Is this cannon, or just generally accepted in this section of the fandom?
2) Greg was a brunette at the beginning of the series, wasn't he? Or could we call him some version of dirty blond? The pictures make it look like he's got all-over brown hair, but I don't know.
3) Is there any set time that Greg started working at the lab? Any lines like, "You've been here for such-and-such years"?
I'm also looking for a beta, and I'm willing to exchange beta services if needed. I'm a very good beta; if I don't know something, my mother will.
Any help would be appreciated.

Date: 2005-07-04 01:25 am (UTC)1) I'm pretty sure it's canon, but not certain.
2) I believe he was brunette, yes.
3) None that I'm aware of. However, he'd have to have a degree, so he would have graduated college around 22. If he got hired right away, and he's, say, thirty now, you can guess eight years at the lab.

Date: 2005-07-04 03:53 am (UTC)GREG: Did I ever tell you I used to live in New York?
GRISSOM: Is this going to be a short story or a novel?
(The mass spectrometer beeps and spews out the test results.)
GREG: Excuse me. You know, heroin has a nine-minute half-life. After that, it metabolizes into morphine.
GRISSOM: What's the 6-MAM count?
GREG: A hundred fifty-eight (158) nanograms per mil. Definitely not lethal. The same with your Xanax. Quarter-mil tabs, hundred (100) micrograms per liter. Again, not lethal. There's addicts walking around times square with more drugs in their system.
GRISSOM: So Braun should still be walking around.
(GRISSOM starts to leave the room, but stops as he passes GREG'S desk. He's just gotta ask ... )
GRISSOM: ... and the point of your New York story was ... ?
GREG: Oh, I was just going to tell you about another way to take heroin -- a suppository up the coolee. You just stand on your head, and then you let gravity ...
(Off GRISSOM'S strange look, GREG decides to ... )
GREG: ... forget it.
(GRISSOM leaves. Hold on GREG.)

Date: 2005-07-04 01:32 am (UTC)No idea what Greg's official hair color is but I've always gone with dirty blonde. You could check some Eric Smazda fan sites and see what the real color is.
Also no idea on when Greg started working. He was firmly entrenced during the pilot episode so he's been there longer than Sara.

Date: 2005-07-04 01:42 am (UTC)2. His hair changes so much it's really hard to tell. I would be willing to be he's a brunette or a really really dark/dirty blonde. Like I said, each season it's different. Though at one point he was completely brunette. His hair color is something you could take liberties with, within reason, I think, and no one would notice.
3. Sorry, I have no clue.
Hope any of that helped. :)

Date: 2005-07-04 02:40 am (UTC)1) that during college he had interned two semesters in San Fran and started working in Vegas after he graduated (I believe this is from the sadly unreliable CBS website which says he also went to Berkerly instead of Stanford which he says on the show)
and
2) that he worked a year in the San Fran crime lab after college before taking the job in Vegas (I think this one is from the Official CSI handbook).
Hope that helps. Either way, I'd guess he's been there for at least eight years.

Date: 2005-07-04 03:40 am (UTC)If you need him younger, you can always assume he graduated either high school or college early. We all know he's smart enough. ;)

Date: 2005-07-04 03:44 am (UTC)Somewhere around here, I have a link for episode scripts.
Not that you're going to want to read every single one of these, or anything. (http://anthology.webphilia.com/csi.html)

Date: 2005-07-04 05:54 am (UTC)In the episode Mea Culpa (season 5 episode containing the infamous splitting of the shift), they are reinvestingating a crime which occurred in December of 1999. Warrick remarks that the DA filed charges before he had the chance to give the sample TO GREG. He mentions Greg specifically, not just saying he took the sample to DNA. Thus, Greg not only worked at LV Crime Lab, but he worked the night shift at that time.
Since most episodes take place more or less in real time (that is, an episode airing on say Jan 20, 2001, is supposedly about a crime committed in January, 2001. There are, of course, some exceptions, such as Greg's remarkably fast healing after Playing with Fire). Since CSI came on the air in Fall 2000, Greg must have worked at the lab at least a year before the start of the show. This doesn't tell exactly when Greg started, but it does give an absolute must-be-here-by-this-time deadline.
My personal speculation (which is by no means certain) is that Greg, born in 1975, would have graduated Stanford approximately Spring 1996. He works in San Fran for a year, so that takes us to 1997. Now here is where my idea may meet controversy--I think he worked a year at NY crime lab. If Las Vegas is the number two lab in the country, I don't think they'd hire someone straight off an internship, and I think it's more likely that Greg learned his strange drug knowledge from the CSIs or police in a work related atmosphere than to have ever had a drug habit (again I stress this is my personal opinion, not anything concrete). So he leaves NY in late '98-early '99 to come to LV.
Um...yeah. *is slightly embarrassed by how much I wrote* I hope this made some sort of sense. Even if it didn't you're probably tired of me talking, so I'll go away now.

Date: 2005-07-04 11:16 am (UTC)2 I think is brunette, they mess with his hair so much, and he messes with it too, Someone posted the link to Eric's hair at Angelfire already, so I won't double post it.
3 Don't know for sure, He spent 2 years in SFPD, before transfering to LV, I'd think the 8 year guessitmate was pretty close.
