A Nick/Greg Ficlet
The photograph on Nick's night table tells a story.
It's a picture that was taken of him and Greg long ago, but he's able to recall that moment in time perfectly, as if it were only yesterday. It told the story of a cool Vegas summer night two years ago.
It was nearly midnight when Nick's phone rang, jolting him awake; he had fallen asleep in front of the television yet again.
"Hello?" he answer groggily, wondering who the heck would be calling at this hour.
"Hey, Nick. Did I wake you?" a voice from the other end of the line answered.
Nick smiled as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. Late-night phone calls from Greg had always been welcome, but more so recently. "Hey, G. Don't worry about it. What's goin' on?"
"I was wondering if you were up for doing a little something. Some midnight stargazing on a random rooftop, perhaps?"
"A random rooftop?" Nick laughed. Greg's ideas always amused him. "How about my backyard?"
"Oh come on, Nick! Where's your sense of adventure?"
"It went on vacation without me."
"That's what, the fifth time this month?" Greg mused. "Give me fifteen minutes?"
"Sure." Nick replied before they exchanged good-byes and hung up.
Exactly fifteen minutes later, Nick heard the sound of the front door opening and closing from his bedroom. Since Greg was over so much, there was really no need for him to ring the doorbell.
"Nick?" Greg's voice sounded from the living room.
"I'm in the bedroom, Greggo." Nick replied as he pulled on a sweater. Moments later, Greg appeared in the doorway.
"Sleeping bag?"
"Uhh.. in the back closet." Nick replied as he and Greg both headed towards the back door.
A few minutes later, both men has positioned themselves on the sleeping bag so that their heads were side by side, and their feet were facing opposite directions.
"Hey, G?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you feel kind of.. ridiculous being out here like this?"
"Ridiculous? No. Why?"
"No reason."
Nick was lost in thought when he saw a flash go off above them. "What the heck!?"
"I took a picture." Greg replied, matter-of-factly. "Us. Here. The stars. A perfect Kodak moment!"
"If you say so."
"I do."
Nick sighed. Silences between him and Greg weren't like the silences between him and anyone else. Silences with Greg were comfortable. Their relationship was based on feelings, rather than words.
"Hey Greg, are you gonna make a wish?"
"Nah. I don't need to."
"Why not?"
"Because my wish already came true."
"What was it?"
Greg smiled. "You."
