“ONCE MORE, WITH FEELING”
Greg's bedroom, morning.
It’s 7:00 o’clock and the alarm goes off. Greg rolls over to glare at the clock, he hits it with a fist and makes it fall to the ground. He looks at the ceiling and turns to Nick. They kiss and finally they get up.
The morning routine continues in all the CSIs’ houses. Sara is washing her teeth and brushing her hair. Warrick is having a good breakfast, Grissom is putting his jacket on and Catherine is kissing her daughter Lindsay before going to work.
We cut to the parking place out the lab. Greg is walking with a concerned face as he begins to sing.
GREG:
Every single night, the same arrangement
I go out and fight the crime
Still I always feel this strange estrangement
Nothing here is real, nothing here is right.
Greg shows his ID to the security guard and enters the lab. He says hello to Judy and checks for messages before enter the main hallway.
GREG:
I've been making shows of trading blows
Just hoping no one knows
That I've been going through the motions
Walking through the part.
He stops and looks to Mia in the DNA lab. Sometimes he missed his lab.
GREG: Nothing seems to penetrate my heart.
He resumes walking and singing.
GREG:
I was always brave, and kind of righteous.
Now I find I'm wavering.
We see in the break room Jacqui, Archie and Hodges talking and drinking coffee. A bunch of cops in passing in the hallway. They stop and stare to Greg.
GREG:
Crawl out of your hideaway, you'll find this fight just
Doesn't mean a thing.
COP:
He ain't got that swing.
Greg’s pager begins to beep. He tries to read the message but before he does the pager slips from his hand and falls down. He stops suddenly and sighs. Greg crouches to pick him up and notices it’s broken. He looks at the cop with a sad glare.
GREG:
Thanks for noticing.
He continues walking though the hallway. The cops and the labtechs follow him.
COPS AND LABTECHS:
He does pretty well with fiends from hell
But lately we can tell
That he's just going through the motions
ARCHIE:
Going through the motions.
JACQUI:
Faking it somehow.
HODGES:
He's not even half the guy he-
Greg hears them and turns facing them and giving them an evil look
HODGES:
- ow.
The cops and the labtechs go away. Greg resumes walking and enters the locker room. He goes to the men’s bathroom and looks himself on the mirror..
GREG:
Will I stay this way forever?
Sleepwalk through my life's endeavor?
An handsome plumber working there looks mischievously at him.
HANDSOME PLUMBER GUY:
How can I help-
GREG:
Whatever.
Greg exits from the bathroom and goes to open his locker. He gets changed.
GREG:
I don't want to beeeeee...
Going through the motions
Losing all my drive.
I can't even see
If this is really me
And I just want to be-
He sits on the bench and looking the ceiling sings..
GREG: Aliiiiiive.
Cut to the breakroom. Every CSI in there is expecting Greg, who’s late. Greg enters and everyone greets him. They begin to talk about this strange need to sing and dance they have and they try to make theories about it. Suddenly Grissom begins to sing.
GRISSOM:
I've got a theory
That it's a killer
A singing killer!
No, something isn't right there.
SARA:
I've got a theory
Some psycho’s dreamin'
And we're all stuck inside his wacky Broadway nightmare.
WARRICK:
I've got a theory we should work this out.
EVERYBODY:
It's getting eerie, what's this cheery singing all about?
Nick jumps up.
NICK:
It could be someone from Lady Heather’s!
Grissom looks at him with a threatening look
NICK:
Which is ridiculous, 'cause Lady Heather’s been persecuted,
And her girls are only battling for women’s power
and I'll be over here.
He sits.
CATHERINE: I've got a theory! It could be a man!
Silence. The others just stare at her. Sound of crickets chirping.
SARA: I've got a-
Suddenly the tune changes to a frantic hard-rock beat with electric guitar and a roving spotlight that waves crazily over Catherine.
CATHERINE:
Men aren't just good like everybody supposes!
They've got them stupid pickup sentences and obscene little moves!
And what's with the touchy feeling?
Why do they need to touch you everywhere?
Men!
Men!
It must be a man!
Fireworks go off all around her, then the smoke clears away. The others continue simply staring. Catherine continues singing the original melody.
CATHERINE:
Or maybe a girl.
Sara sits down beside Grissom and opens a book
SARA:
I've got a theory we should work this fast.
GRISSOM/SARA:
Because it clearly could get serious before it's passed.
Grissom gets up and goes to the library to take a book.
GREG:
I've got a theory. It doesn't matter.
Grissom pauses, turns back. Everyone looks at Greg.
GREG:
What can't we face if we're together?
What's in this place that we can't weather?
Mass murders?
We've all been there.
The same old trips
Why should we care?
ALL EXCEPT GRISSOM:
What can't we do if we get in it?
We'll work it through within a minute.
Greg looks at Grissom when he’s singing. He watches him too and finally joins in.
ALL:
We have to try
We'll pay the price
It's do or screw the case
CATHERINE:
Hey, I've do that so much times.
Grissom smiles and comes back to the table.
ALL:
What can't we face if we're together?
GRISSOM:
What can't we face...
ALL:
What's in this place that we can't weather?
GRISSOM:
...if we're together...
ALL:
There's nothing we can't face.
CATHERINE:
Except for men.
After the song Grissom gives everybody instructions and the CSI begin to work at the case. After the shift Nick and Greg go to a nearby diner to eat breakfast. After that they decide to go to a park near to their apartment. Nick begins to talk.
NICK: That plumber today was totally checking you out!
GREG: What? He was checking me out?
NICK: The hotness of you, babe.
GREG: He really thought I was hot?
NICK: Sure.
GREG: Oh my god. I’m a boys’ magnet.
Nick grabs him and hugs him. Greg giggles.
NICK: Do I have to fight to keep you? Cause I can always be the Texan bad cop.
They stand underneath a tree, leaning on a wooden railing.
GREG: I'm just ... I was looking like crap. Why was he looking at me?
NICK: And you can't imagine what they see in you beyond your looks.
GREG: I know exactly what they see in me. You.
GREG:
I lived my life in shadow
Never the sun on my face.
It didn't seem so sad, though
I figured that was my place
Now I'm bathed in light
Greg walks out from the shade, lifting his face to the sun.
GREG:
Something just isn't right
I'm under your spell
How else could it be
Anyone would notice me?
It's magic, I can tell
How you set me free
Brought me out so easily.
Pan across a little stream with a bridge over it. Nick and Greg are on the bridge. Greg takes Nick's hand and they walk off the bridge onto a path, holding hands.
GREG:
I saw a world enchanted
Spirits and charms in the air.
I always took for granted
I was the only one there.
But your power shone
Brighter than any I've known.
Greg spins away from Nick and begins to dance.
GREG:
I'm under your spell
Nothing I can do
You just took my soul with you
A young couple sitting on a beach towel in the background stands up and begins dancing in sync with Greg.
GREG:
You worked your charms so well
Finally, I knew
Everything I dreamed was true
You made me believe.
COUPLE:
Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh.
Nick and Greg spin around in each other's arms. Suddenly they are in their bedroom. They sit down on the bed and look lovingly at each other. The music and background "ahh, ahh" continues.
GREG:
The moon to the tide
I can feel you inside
I'm under your spell
Greg lies down on the bed.
GREG
Surging like the sea
Wanting you so helplessly
I break with every swell
Nick leans over him and smiles. He moves downward, disappears out of sight.
Lost in ecstasy
Spread beneath my Texan tree
You make me complete!
Greg moans and arches his back. He finishes his song with an ecstatic voice.
GREG:
You make me complete
You make me complete
You make me...
Greg lies on the bed sleeping. Nick looks at him stunned by him confession.
NICK: This is too much. I need to run away.
THE NEXT DAY
It’s a day like any other in the lab, except for the singing and dancing part. After a rough day of work Greg goes home to find it empty. He knew Nick was out with an old friend from Texas and this bothered him cause Nick told nobody of him and Greg. Nick was afraid of what could happen if people would have know of their relationship.
Suddenly a cell phone begins to beep. It was Nick’s. Greg picks it up thinking that could have been fallen from Nick’s pocket. He opens it and he finds a message he would never want to see.
“Hi Nick it’s Angela. I’m waiting for you in my room, I can’t wait to have you here and make great sex like we always do. Run here! Kisses.”
Greg wasn’t able feel his heart at the moment. Probably it shattered in a thousand pieces. He remains stunned for a while and finally understands why Nick avoided him all day. Greg starts to cry like a baby, like he has never cried before.
When Nick comes home finds Greg sitting in the couch with Nick’s cell phone in his hand. When Nick asks him why he had it Greg replies he found it on the floor. Nick tries to kiss him but Greg pushes him to the ground. Nick stares to his enraged loved as Greg begins to sing.
GREG:
I died
A few hours ago.
And you would make me feel
Like it isn't so
And why you’ve tried to avoid me
I think I finally know
Mmm, mmm.
You're scared.
Ashamed of what you feel
And you can't tell the ones you love
You know they couldn't deal
Whisper in your fuck buddy's ear,
It doesn't make it real.
GREG:
That's great.
But I don't wanna play.
'Cause being with you touches me
More than I can say.
But since I'm only a fuck to you
I'm saying stay away
And let me rest in peace.
Greg jumps up and the song takes on an angry rock beat.
GREG:
Let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Greg throws Nick’s cell phone against the wall. Nick jumps up]
GREG:
Let me take my love and bury it
In a hole six foot deep
I can lay my body down
But I can't find my sweet release
So let me rest in peace!
Nick tries to make up to Greg but Greg pushes him another time to the ground.
GREG:
You know
You've got a willing slave
And you just love to play the thought
That you might misbehave.
But till you do I'm telling you,
Stop visiting my place
And let me rest in peace.
Greg yanks the door open again and runs to the park. Nick follows him.
GREG:
I know I should go
But I follow you like a man possessed
There's a traitor here beneath my breast
And it hurts me more than you've ever guessed
If my heart could beat, it would break my chest
But I can see you're unimpressed
So leave me be.
Greg sings even more angrily.
GREG:
And let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Let me take my love and bury it
In a hole six foot deep
I can lay my body down
But I can't find my sweet release...
Let me rest in peace.
Why won't you
Let me rest in peace?
Greg sinks to his knees and begins to cry. Nick goes away ashamed of what he’s done but too sure to have did the best for his life. He must find a woman and have a family like everyone, not have a gay relationship with a guy from work.
Yes, he did the right thing.
The next day at CSI lab Greg and Nick avoid themselves like the plague. At one time Greg breaks and goes to watch an interrogation that Nick’s doing to a suspect for the “singing case”. He only has eyes for Nick.
GREG: (same melody from her previous song)
I'm under your spell
God, how can this be?
Playing with my self esteem
You know I've been through hell
Nick, don't you see?
There'll be nothing left of me
You made me believe.
Believe me, I don't wanna go
And it'll grieve me 'cause I love you so
But I know
Wish I could trust that it was just this once
But I must do what I must
I can't adjust to this disgust
You're done and I just
Wish I could stay
Wish I could stay
Wish I could stay
Wish I could stay...
At the middle of the shift Grissom calls all the CSIs in the breakroom and tells them they found the singing killer. They take the Tahoes and drive to a warehouse out of Vegas.
While Sara’s driving Greg stares to the window and sings.
GREG:
I touch the fire and it freezes me
I look into it and it's black
Why can't I feel?
My skin should crack and peel
I want the fire back!
Greg thinks of the explosion, when he was able to feel pain. Now it’s all dull, the pain for Nick was dull too. He was able to feel emotions.
He never was the same after the explosion in the DNA lab, he had shut down. He switched to a new job but his demons never went away.
Cut to the warehouse. The killer is waiting for the CSIs.
GREG:
Now through the smoke, he calls to me
To make my way across the flame
To save the day
Or maybe melt away
I guess it's all the same
The CSIs step down from the Tahoe. Sara and Grissom go with Greg an the left of the warehouse; Nick, Warrick and Catherine go to the right.
GREG:
So I will walk through the fire
'Cause where else can I turn?
I will walk through the fire
And let it-
Cut to Nick walking.
NICK:
The torch I bear is scorching me
Greg's crying, I've no doubt
I hope he goes out of sight
I'm free if he quits CSI
Nick stops dead.
I better help him out.
Nick restarts walking.
Cut to the inside of the warehouse.
KILLER:
'Cause he is drawn to the fire.
KILLER:
Some people
KILLER/NICK
He will
KILLER/NICK
Never learn.
KILLER/NICK
And he will walk through the fire
And let it-
GREG:
So one by one, they turn from me
I guess my friends can't face the cold
But why I froze, not one among them knows
And never can be told.
NICK:
What can’t we face..
If we’re together?
GREG:
Going thought the motions
Walking through the part.
Several police cars are arriving. Cops surround the perimeter.
ALL:
And we are caught in the fire
The point of no return
So we will walk through the fire
And let it
Burn
Let it burn
Let it burn
Let it burn!
The CSI enter the warehouse and find the killer staring at them. Grissom begins to talk to him and asks why the entire crime lab is dancing and singingThe killer explains that he made a cassette with a subliminal message that ordered everybody to dance and sing. This constriction could only be ended using another cassette with the opposite effect, this cassette is in his pocket. When Grissom asked why he did this he answered that he holds a grudge against Greg, who discovering a new method to use a specific protein, sent him to jail 7 years before.
Greg talks with the killer who asks him about his personal life. After the difficult days Greg passed, he felt the urge to explain how he felt.
So Greg begins to sing and dance.
GREG:
Life's a show
And we all play our parts
And when the music starts
We open up our hearts
It's all right
If some things come out wrong
We'll sing a happy song
And you can sing along.
The beat changes to a harsh hard-rock tune with lots of electric guitar.
GREG:
Where there's life
There's hope
Every day's
A gift
Wishes can
Come true
Whistle while
You work
So hard
All day
Back to the original ballad melody.
GREG: To be like other guys.
All CSIs run in.
GREG:
To fit in this difficult world.
The killer is watching, listening
GREG:
Don't give me songs.
Grissom tells Catherine and Sara that Greg will need backup.
GREG:
Don't give me songs.
Catherine and Sara take up positions behind Greg to be his backup singers and dancers. The three of them move in sync.
GREG:
Give me something to sing about.
CATHERINE/SARA:
Ahhhhh...
GREG:
I need something to sing about.
CATHERINE/SARA:
Ahhhhh...
More dancing. The hard-rock beat returns. The group dance to it for a minute, then return to the first dance and the ballad.
GREG:
Life's a song
You don't get to rehearse.
And every single verse
Can make it that much worse.
Catherine and Sara stop dancing and move to background.
Greg puts up a hand as if to shield herself from the sight of his friends.
GREG:
Still my friends
Don't know why I ignore
The million things or more
I should be dancing for.
Back to the hard-rock tune. Greg continues dancing alone.
GREG:
All the joy
Life sends
Family
And friends
All the twists
And bends
Knowing that
It ends
Well that
Depends
Back to the ballad melody.
GREG:
On if they let you go
Greg looks around at the CSI
GREG:
On if they know enough to know
That when you've bowed
You leave the crowd.
He looks around himself and back at the others, then at the killer still sitting.
Now there’s a new slow melody. Greg looks at his friends sadly.
GREG:
There was no pain
No fear, no doubt
Till they pulled me out
Of Heaven.
Greg looks back at the others. Grissom and Warrick look surprised.
GREG:
So that's my refrain.
Sara looks horrified.
GREG:
I live in Hell
Catherine looks horrified.
GREG:
'Cause I've been blown out
From Heaven
I think I was in Heaven
Catherine looks horrified.
GREG:
So give me something to sing about.
Greg whirls around to look at the killer.
GREG:
Please
Give me something...
The killer shakes his head and points him his gun. Greg gives a desperate look. The hard-rock tune returns with the electric guitars playing a wild riff. Greg dances, faster and faster, careless to the gun pointed at him.
The killer released the safety catch of the gun. Greg continues to dance and begins to cry. The CSIs are petrified.
Suddenly Nick pulls out his gun, fires at the killer and hurts him badly. The killer tries to fire to him but it’s blocked by the policemen that cuff him. Before they drag him away the CSI open his pocket and take the cassette.
In the meanwhile Greg stares at Nick and Nick grabs his upper arms. Greg looks at him in tears.
NICK:
Life's not a song
Life isn't bliss
Life is just this
It's living
Nick brushes sweetly Greg’s hair.
NICK:
You'll get along
The pain that you feel
You only can heal
By living
You have to go one living
So one of us is living.
Greg collapses to the floor and Nick hugs him. After a few minutes Greg released himself from the hug and runs away. The CSIs walk to Nick and give him a heart to heart speech telling him that he has to run and go to get Greg. That would be the only way Nick could be happy because they are made for each other. Nick has realized what Greg is for him and now that he has the support of his friends he couldn’t care less of what the rest of the world could think or say.
He only wants his Greg.
Nick finds Greg behind the warehouse watching the stars. He silently approaches him
NICK: Greg...
GREG: Look, you don't have to say anything. It’s ok. Everything’s ok.
Nick begins to sing. Greg follows him
NICK:
I touch the fire and it freezes me.
Greg looks surprised. They walk toward each other.
GREG:
I died...
NICK:
I look into it and it's black.
GREG:
So many hours ago.
NICK:
This isn't real
GREG:
But you can make me
NICK:
But I just want to feel..
GREG:
Feel..
As they hold the last note on "feel" they walk right up to each other. They finish the song and kiss passionately.
ALL: (singing) Where do we go from here?
The end.
I've written this after a night of not so good sleep before an exam, I hope you like it!

The moon to the tide
I can feel you inside
I'm under your spell
Greg lies down on the bed.
GREG
Surging like the sea
Wanting you so helplessly
I break with every swell
Nick leans over him and smiles. He moves downward, disappears out of sight.
Lost in ecstasy
Spread beneath my Texan tree
You make me complete!
Greg moans and arches his back. He finishes his song with an ecstatic voice.
GREG:
You make me complete
You make me complete
You make me...
Greg lies on the bed sleeping. Nick looks at him stunned by him confession.
NICK: This is too much. I need to run away.
THE NEXT DAY
It’s a day like any other in the lab, except for the singing and dancing part. After a rough day of work Greg goes home to find it empty. He knew Nick was out with an old friend from Texas and this bothered him cause Nick told nobody of him and Greg. Nick was afraid of what could happen if people would have know of their relationship.
Suddenly a cell phone begins to beep. It was Nick’s. Greg picks it up thinking that could have been fallen from Nick’s pocket. He opens it and he finds a message he would never want to see.
“Hi Nick it’s Angela. I’m waiting for you in my room, I can’t wait to have you here and make great sex like we always do. Run here! Kisses.”
Greg wasn’t able feel his heart at the moment. Probably it shattered in a thousand pieces. He remains stunned for a while and finally understands why Nick avoided him all day. Greg starts to cry like a baby, like he has never cried before.
When Nick comes home finds Greg sitting in the couch with Nick’s cell phone in his hand. When Nick asks him why he had it Greg replies he found it on the floor. Nick tries to kiss him but Greg pushes him to the ground. Nick stares to his enraged loved as Greg begins to sing.
GREG:
I died
A few hours ago.
And you would make me feel
Like it isn't so
And why you’ve tried to avoid me
I think I finally know
Mmm, mmm.
You're scared.
Ashamed of what you feel
And you can't tell the ones you love
You know they couldn't deal
Whisper in your fuck buddy's ear,
It doesn't make it real.
GREG:
That's great.
But I don't wanna play.
'Cause being with you touches me
More than I can say.
But since I'm only a fuck to you
I'm saying stay away
And let me rest in peace.
Greg jumps up and the song takes on an angry rock beat.
GREG:
Let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Greg throws Nick’s cell phone against the wall. Nick jumps up]
GREG:
Let me take my love and bury it
In a hole six foot deep
I can lay my body down
But I can't find my sweet release
So let me rest in peace!
Nick tries to make up to Greg but Greg pushes him another time to the ground.
GREG:
You know
You've got a willing slave
And you just love to play the thought
That you might misbehave.
But till you do I'm telling you,
Stop visiting my place
And let me rest in peace.
Greg yanks the door open again and runs to the park. Nick follows him.
GREG:
I know I should go
But I follow you like a man possessed
There's a traitor here beneath my breast
And it hurts me more than you've ever guessed
If my heart could beat, it would break my chest
But I can see you're unimpressed
So leave me be.
Greg sings even more angrily.
GREG:
And let me rest in peace
Let me get some sleep
Let me take my love and bury it
In a hole six foot deep
I can lay my body down
But I can't find my sweet release...
Let me rest in peace.
Why won't you
Let me rest in peace?
Greg sinks to his knees and begins to cry. Nick goes away ashamed of what he’s done but too sure to have did the best for his life. He must find a woman and have a family like everyone, not have a gay relationship with a guy from work.
Yes, he did the right thing.
The next day at CSI lab Greg and Nick avoid themselves like the plague. At one time Greg breaks and goes to watch an interrogation that Nick’s doing to a suspect for the “singing case”. He only has eyes for Nick.
GREG: (same melody from her previous song)
I'm under your spell
God, how can this be?
Playing with my self esteem
You know I've been through hell
Nick, don't you see?
There'll be nothing left of me
You made me believe.
Believe me, I don't wanna go
And it'll grieve me 'cause I love you so
But I know
Wish I could trust that it was just this once
But I must do what I must
I can't adjust to this disgust
You're done and I just
Wish I could stay
Wish I could stay
Wish I could stay
Wish I could stay...
At the middle of the shift Grissom calls all the CSIs in the breakroom and tells them they found the singing killer. They take the Tahoes and drive to a warehouse out of Vegas.
While Sara’s driving Greg stares to the window and sings.
GREG:
I touch the fire and it freezes me
I look into it and it's black
Why can't I feel?
My skin should crack and peel
I want the fire back!
Greg thinks of the explosion, when he was able to feel pain. Now it’s all dull, the pain for Nick was dull too. He was able to feel emotions.
He never was the same after the explosion in the DNA lab, he had shut down. He switched to a new job but his demons never went away.
Cut to the warehouse. The killer is waiting for the CSIs.
GREG:
Now through the smoke, he calls to me
To make my way across the flame
To save the day
Or maybe melt away
I guess it's all the same
The CSIs step down from the Tahoe. Sara and Grissom go with Greg an the left of the warehouse; Nick, Warrick and Catherine go to the right.
GREG:
So I will walk through the fire
'Cause where else can I turn?
I will walk through the fire
And let it-
Cut to Nick walking.
NICK:
The torch I bear is scorching me
Greg's crying, I've no doubt
I hope he goes out of sight
I'm free if he quits CSI
Nick stops dead.
I better help him out.
Nick restarts walking.
Cut to the inside of the warehouse.
KILLER:
'Cause he is drawn to the fire.
KILLER:
Some people
KILLER/NICK
He will
KILLER/NICK
Never learn.
KILLER/NICK
And he will walk through the fire
And let it-
GREG:
So one by one, they turn from me
I guess my friends can't face the cold
But why I froze, not one among them knows
And never can be told.
NICK:
What can’t we face..
If we’re together?
GREG:
Going thought the motions
Walking through the part.
Several police cars are arriving. Cops surround the perimeter.
ALL:
And we are caught in the fire
The point of no return
So we will walk through the fire
And let it
Burn
Let it burn
Let it burn
Let it burn!
The CSI enter the warehouse and find the killer staring at them. Grissom begins to talk to him and asks why the entire crime lab is dancing and singingThe killer explains that he made a cassette with a subliminal message that ordered everybody to dance and sing. This constriction could only be ended using another cassette with the opposite effect, this cassette is in his pocket. When Grissom asked why he did this he answered that he holds a grudge against Greg, who discovering a new method to use a specific protein, sent him to jail 7 years before.
Greg talks with the killer who asks him about his personal life. After the difficult days Greg passed, he felt the urge to explain how he felt.
So Greg begins to sing and dance.
GREG:
Life's a show
And we all play our parts
And when the music starts
We open up our hearts
It's all right
If some things come out wrong
We'll sing a happy song
And you can sing along.
The beat changes to a harsh hard-rock tune with lots of electric guitar.
GREG:
Where there's life
There's hope
Every day's
A gift
Wishes can
Come true
Whistle while
You work
So hard
All day
Back to the original ballad melody.
GREG: To be like other guys.
All CSIs run in.
GREG:
To fit in this difficult world.
The killer is watching, listening
GREG:
Don't give me songs.
Grissom tells Catherine and Sara that Greg will need backup.
GREG:
Don't give me songs.
Catherine and Sara take up positions behind Greg to be his backup singers and dancers. The three of them move in sync.
GREG:
Give me something to sing about.
CATHERINE/SARA:
Ahhhhh...
GREG:
I need something to sing about.
CATHERINE/SARA:
Ahhhhh...
More dancing. The hard-rock beat returns. The group dance to it for a minute, then return to the first dance and the ballad.
GREG:
Life's a song
You don't get to rehearse.
And every single verse
Can make it that much worse.
Catherine and Sara stop dancing and move to background.
Greg puts up a hand as if to shield herself from the sight of his friends.
GREG:
Still my friends
Don't know why I ignore
The million things or more
I should be dancing for.
Back to the hard-rock tune. Greg continues dancing alone.
GREG:
All the joy
Life sends
Family
And friends
All the twists
And bends
Knowing that
It ends
Well that
Depends
Back to the ballad melody.
GREG:
On if they let you go
Greg looks around at the CSI
GREG:
On if they know enough to know
That when you've bowed
You leave the crowd.
He looks around himself and back at the others, then at the killer still sitting.
Now there’s a new slow melody. Greg looks at his friends sadly.
GREG:
There was no pain
No fear, no doubt
Till they pulled me out
Of Heaven.
Greg looks back at the others. Grissom and Warrick look surprised.
GREG:
So that's my refrain.
Sara looks horrified.
GREG:
I live in Hell
Catherine looks horrified.
GREG:
'Cause I've been blown out
From Heaven
I think I was in Heaven
Catherine looks horrified.
GREG:
So give me something to sing about.
Greg whirls around to look at the killer.
GREG:
Please
Give me something...
The killer shakes his head and points him his gun. Greg gives a desperate look. The hard-rock tune returns with the electric guitars playing a wild riff. Greg dances, faster and faster, careless to the gun pointed at him.
The killer released the safety catch of the gun. Greg continues to dance and begins to cry. The CSIs are petrified.
Suddenly Nick pulls out his gun, fires at the killer and hurts him badly. The killer tries to fire to him but it’s blocked by the policemen that cuff him. Before they drag him away the CSI open his pocket and take the cassette.
In the meanwhile Greg stares at Nick and Nick grabs his upper arms. Greg looks at him in tears.
NICK:
Life's not a song
Life isn't bliss
Life is just this
It's living
Nick brushes sweetly Greg’s hair.
NICK:
You'll get along
The pain that you feel
You only can heal
By living
You have to go one living
So one of us is living.
Greg collapses to the floor and Nick hugs him. After a few minutes Greg released himself from the hug and runs away. The CSIs walk to Nick and give him a heart to heart speech telling him that he has to run and go to get Greg. That would be the only way Nick could be happy because they are made for each other. Nick has realized what Greg is for him and now that he has the support of his friends he couldn’t care less of what the rest of the world could think or say.
He only wants his Greg.
Nick finds Greg behind the warehouse watching the stars. He silently approaches him
NICK: Greg...
GREG: Look, you don't have to say anything. It’s ok. Everything’s ok.
Nick begins to sing. Greg follows him
NICK:
I touch the fire and it freezes me.
Greg looks surprised. They walk toward each other.
GREG:
I died...
NICK:
I look into it and it's black.
GREG:
So many hours ago.
NICK:
This isn't real
GREG:
But you can make me
NICK:
But I just want to feel..
GREG:
Feel..
As they hold the last note on "feel" they walk right up to each other. They finish the song and kiss passionately.
ALL: (singing) Where do we go from here?
The end.
