Before we take our stroll down memory lane, we want to give you a quick update on the situation with the WMtDB archives. We're relieved to let you know the fanfiction is not lost and the maintainer is working hard to get the site back on line. We were told this could take a while though. S1Ep17 Face Lift
As a special treat in your time of need, we added a couple of extras to this classic from the first season (see if you can find them all:) Remember when Greg would go a little crazy in the lab and try his hardest to push Nick's buttons? In this scene Greg is flirting on the phone just a little too obviously.

GREG: You know I love you. Yes ... no, I love you more. No, I love you more.
{We are pretty sure Greg could hear Nick coming in before he started on the excessive I love you mores;)}

NICK clears his throat.

{NICK: Hey. GREG: Oh, hi!}

{In Dutch we call this "smiling like a man with a tooth ache". We believe the English expression is "to laugh on the wrong side of one's mouth". Oh, Nick}

GREG: Bye, baby.

[OS] NICK: Do you have the results on the swab yet?

GREG: Uh ...

NICK: *mimics Greg* "Uh..." From the dead guy at the pottery store?

[OS] NICK: ...The coroner sent over a sample...

NICK: You were supposed to analyze the mineral content...

GREG: Oh, yeah, I'm sorry. Grissom has just been running me around like a lapdog. I haven't had a chance.

NICK: Grissom's on a missing persons-- he hasn't sent you anything.

GREG: Did I say Grissom? No, I meant Catherine.

NICK: *laughs along* Oh, yeah.

NICK: *beat* Catherine's working with me.

Ahem.

{It's alright, you may squee out loud, we did... TONGUE! Gosh, Greg looks adorable when he's busted and contemplating his next move, doesn't he?}

GREG: Oh. Well, what do you say we check out that swab then, huh?

NICK: Great.
{Poor Nick, he's so deperate to get back to business}

{Nicks heaves a sigh of relief because Greg is finally focussing on his job. He should know better;)}

GREG: Don't you ever goof off, huh?

GREG: Do you ever get a little lost in life?

NICK: No.

Yes, we know the scene doesn't end here, but this moment already has such an overdose of cute, we'll save the rest for another time. Because we want you to come back for more (and we like to tease, just like Greg;)

Isn't this conversation a perfect example of the difference in their personalities? Of course we all already knew Nick needed a bit of Greg in his life. But it took him a while to realize it... (Although you can almost see the 'want' in his eyes in #23) *chinhands* Oh boys.

It's addictive, isn't it? (Did you know you can download the wav and use it as a computersound, for instance a mail-alert;)

They both look so precious. My favorite is #12, because for a second there Nick played along with Greg's game of d'oh. :-D

I almost freaked over #9! At first I thought it was my imagination. Then, when I saw Greg blink, I screamed with laughter. That was great!

There is no way Nick could resist the charms of Greg, especially in #17 (I know I couldn’t).

This is great early N/G. Greg is the flirting king, and poor Nick is almost sweating from the tension \o/!

Every time I see this scene it makes me wonder about Greg shirking his duties. That is so NOT the genius, eager-to-please Greggo we all know and love. For me, the only explanation is that there is nobody on the other end of the line with Greg. He must have seen Nick coming and staged the call to make him jealous. I’d bet that he’d already tested the swab but made like he hadn't in order to engage Nick in conversation and get him to stay longer.

And Greg’s comment “Do you ever get a little lost in life?” was an invitation if I’ve ever heard one.

Heehee:) I just loved the way Greg blinked ever so slowly there, it feels like he's trying to buy time to think of a clever response to Nick's question.

I love your take on Greg's motives. You are absolutely right about him having pride in his job. I always thought the phone-talk was for Nick's benefit. As in your awesome icon Greg just loves to ruffle Nick's feathers;)

It always seemed to me (even before I was aware of The Love) that Greg was not talking to a lover but added the 'I love yous' and 'bye baby' to either impress Nick or save himself from teasing if Nick found out who he was actually talking to. That pause between the yes and no just seemed too pointed and the rest too forced. Plus, he was way hyper for a moment after and I always equate hyper-Greg with him being nervous.

Nick looks like he's playing along through the whole scene, so I think he knows very well what Greg was up to.

I think we all agree that the phone-talk was a set up *grins* To me it felt like Nick played along for a bit until he got nervous again (as so many times when Greg is flirty, Nick needs to ground himself by going back to business)
