A/N: This is the sequel to “Coming To The End”.

Nick could not wait to get home. He had pulled a very long shift, and was exhausted. All he wanted was to get home, take a long hot shower, and collapse. He'd thought briefly about stopping for some take-out, but figured Greg would be pissy about his choice of restaurant like he had been of late. Ever since they'd had the big blow-up, everything Nick did was subject to Greg's wickedly sharp tongue and blatantly hostile criticism.

It was really very simple. Greg wanted to bring someone else into their bed and Nick did not. They had discussed it, argued about it, and had almost come to blows over it. Nick was adamant! He didn't like to share, and wasn't going to. Greg, on the other hand, thought it was a splendid idea, and even went so far as to try and recruit a few candidates for Nick's approval. When Nick asked Greg why he wanted to do something like that, Greg replied that he wanted some variety, and that sex between the two of them was getting old.

Nick couldn't believe it. He had done his level best to keep Greg satisfied in bed. Hell, he'd even consented to doing things that had taken him way out of his comfort zone, but he didn't say much because it was what Greg wanted. Finding out that sex was getting old for Greg was like a slap in the face. Nick wasn't exactly sure what to do about it, but he knew he needed to do something.

As Nick turned the corner onto Rose Lane, he noticed a strange car parked in front of his house. It must belong to one of Greg's club-buddies. As Nick pulled into the driveway, Greg and two guys he didn't know came out of the house and headed toward the car parked at the curb. Greg detoured to Nick's truck and told him that he was going out for a while and that he would be back later. He turned and walked to the waiting car, got in, and they drove away. Nick went into the house and shut the door.

After Nick took his shower, he went straight to bed. He immediately fell into a deep sleep with no dreams. He wasn't sure what it was that woke him up, but he heard noises coming from the living room. He eased out of the bedroom and down the hall toward the living room. Just as he got to the end of the hall, he heard a very distinct moan. He knew that noise. It was Greg in the throes of passionate sex. When he reached the living room doorway, he wished that he could be struck blind immediately!!!

The sight that lay before him was one he never wanted to see. Greg was having sex with not one, but two other men. Right there on the living room floor!!! Nick was horrified, hurt, and pissed all at the same time.....

GREG!!!! WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?????”

What does it look like, Nicky? C'mon, join the party....”

Greg, you've got five minutes to get these motherfuckers out of this house before I get my gun...”

Oh, relax Nick, we're just having a little fun...”

At the mention of the word “gun” the two guys who had been servicing Greg began to gather clothes and once dressed, headed for the door. Once the guys had left, Greg rounded on Nick.

What the fuck gives you the right to bust up the party like that? Jealous much? Like what you saw?”

It was all Nick could do to keep from slapping the smug expression from Greg's face. He just couldn't seem to understand why Greg wanted to hurt him this way.

Greg, what is this all about? Why are you doing this to me, to us?”

I told you I wanted something new, some variety...I got tired of the same thing over and over again so I went out and did something about it!”

Nick sat there stunned. He remembered the argument they'd had over this, but he never dreamed Greg would actually do it. That's what hurt so fucking bad. Greg evidently didn't think Nick was good enough anymore. Nick chose his next words carefully so there would be no mistake.

Greg, I want you up, dressed, and out of this house. You got 10 minutes to pack a bag.”

Nick walked to the kitchen for something to drink. He could hear Greg laughing as he went down the hall. Nick sat down at the kitchen table and thought about what had just taken place. How could Greg throw all the years they had together just because he wanted to spice up his sex life? Nick could hear Greg coming down the hall. He got up and stood in the doorway to the living room.....

Nick, you're making a big mistake. Once you calm down, you'll see the light.”

No, Greg, I doubt it. I just want to know why you would throw away all the years, the promises, and everything else we built together? Did it mean that little to you?”

Nick, cut the crap! It meant something to me at one time, but as time went on, I got bored. I just got to the point that I decided I would do what I wanted for a change, and damn the consequences.”

Well, I hope this 'variety' was worth it, because there's nothing left for you here. You betrayed my trust, and that's one thing I won't tolerate.”

Greg just looked at Nick, shook his head, and walked out the door. Nick sat down on the living room couch and cried his eyes out. When he was done, he went to the bedroom and lay down. In the morning, he called Catherine and told her that something had come up, and that he wouldn't be in for a few days. After he spoke with Catherine, Nick packed a bag and headed for Texas. He felt like he could use some of his mama's good advice right about now.....

THE END

This is just so sad, made sadder by the fact it's based partly on reality. My ex also wanted to have variety and he found her on the internet... I felt like a 90's joke... dumped from someone found on the internet... but I've moved on... it takes time...

I can't believe this is your reality. :( It's so sad. I'm happy you're handling it in a positive way and hope you're moving on from this experience. It seem like maybe writing is your therapy of sorts. So, if it helps, keep writing. You'll always have readers around to encourage you to continue. :)

Greg is a little bitch in this one. I mean really if i was nick, I would have slapped the hell out of him just for bringing people into my house and just go 'its okay, its fun i promise' And i wear bigger rings then nick does in the show so you know Greg aint walking out with little red mark on the face.

You can tell this is a good story because it has my Irish up. Personally, I’d like to give Greg a good old-fashioned New York ass-kicking (not that I have actually ever inflicted an ass-kicking, but in this case I would gladly make an exception).

(Feel free to remove any or all of these comments. I did wander off the path of straight story review here, but this one really got my blood racing.)

Obviously, Greg is not a well man. I suspect that he’s suffering from a hard-core case of midlife crisis (or as I like to call it, man-o-pause). His youth is fading and he’s no longer the twenty-something Adonis he once thought himself to be. He’s facing grey hair, wrinkles, sagging skin, low testosterone and his own mortality. His acting the fool has less to do with Nick no longer floating his boat, and more to do with wanting trying anything to make himself feel attractive (and wanting to act the freak before he is too old to get away with it).

I’ve seen this scenario more than once in RL and it always plays-out the same way. The Greg character turns prick and acts the fool as he did in this story. The Nick character tries his (or her) best to make Greg happy (including compromising his own principles and/or comfort zone). Inevitably there is a break-up and Nick is left alone. He’s hurt, depressed and wondering what went wrong and how it could have ended so badly.

Fortunately, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Eventually the hurt lessens, Nick begins feeling a little better and one day he realizes that not only does it no longer hurt – none of it matters. He’s moved on with his life, meets someone he is truly meant to be with and Greg is no more than ancient history. And the absolute best part is that eventually, Greg realizes what an ass he was and that Nick was the best thing that ever happened in his life. Unfortunately for him – it is way too late.

That’s what I call a happy ending!
