Right on, so I am going to roll with my idea and see where it takes me. This part is a little longer and still no slashiness, but perhaps some for the next part? We shall see. I can't force it in, it has to happen.

Title: Right now, Letting Go, but I might change that.....any suggestions?
Chapter 2 of ?
Rating: PGish so far.....
Summary: Catherine makes Nick go back to therapy after Grave Danger. Greg vows to help his friend come to terms with what has happened. Pre-Slash right now.
Disclaimer: Oh, how I would love to own them, but I don't. The Dr. is homage to a good friend, though.

Nick sat in an oversized armchair studying Dr. Farber. It didn’t surprise him that this was Greg’s therapist. She had long brown hair that had bright red tips, and he was pretty sure that was a scar from a lip ring by her mouth.

“Uh, sorry I slammed your door,” he said sheepishly, “I was a little upset”.

“Oh, it’s used to the abuse”, she replied. “So, let’s get to know each other, Nick, tell me about what has brought you here”.

Great, Nick thought to himself, let the mind games begin. She knew why he was here. His file from the LVPD therapist was on her desk.

“Well, let’s see, I was buried alive in a plexiglass coffin, red ants tried to eat me, and then I was almost blown up. So I went to therapy, got released for work, and now my boss thinks I need more therapy, and all I really need is to go back to work. So really I am wasting your time, Dr. Farber. If you would just sign off that I am ok to go back in the field, you can get back to the patients that need you”, Nick let his little speech out in one breath and looked at her expectantly.

She looked at Nick, studying the way his breath had quickened, how his forehead was beginning to wrinkle up in frustration. “Hmmm, for starters call me Carolyn, and I see from your file that you did complete your required sessions for this last incident. That really isn’t what I find interesting about this file, though”.

Nick looked at her in confusion. What bullshit was this? He thought he was here to once again explain that, yes, he had experienced a traumatic situation, and yes, his life had been in danger, but that he was over it. He had put it in that little area of his mind with all the things he didn’t let himself think about, and was ready to get back to helping people. Suddenly he felt like Catherine had tricked him. What was in that file on the desk? He gave it a suspicious glance.

Dr. Farber saw his eyes shift to her desk. “Would you like to know what is in this file, Nick?”

He looked at her in surprise, she wouldn’t really let him see what the other therapist had said about him, would she? Then again, she had bright red dye in her hair, so maybe she wasn’t a conventional therapist. He cleared his throat, “Umm, yes, yes I would, Dr....I mean Carolyn. That would be mighty kind of you, and I would much appreciate it”, it never hurt to turn on the southern charm, he reasoned, “I reckon the other therapist just didn’t understand what I was telling him, so maybe I can see what he wrote and explain to you what I was really saying”.

He saw the amusement in her eyes and realized that this was one woman who saw through his bullshit, and that turning on the charm had, if anything, put him here at least one more session. He lowered his head, ashamed that he had tried to pull one over on her. She was a therapist, damn it, he should have known better.

“Well, as much as I would like to see what the other therapist had to say about you, Nick, I don’t have his notes yet. All I have here is a record of incidents in the field that you were suggested to take therapy for. Tell me a little about Nigel Crane.”

Nick looked up at her in shock. “Well, that was a long time ago, I don’t think about it much”, he replied. Wondering if she could hear the lie in his voice. Truth was he dreamed about being stalked at least once a week. Sometimes he was the one receiving all the phone calls, or sometimes he was the one that was in the attic, watching himself as he went about his daily routine. Recently, though, he would be in the plexiglass coffin, and it wasn’t Warrick that uncovered him, but Nigel. Dreams were just dreams though, and he brushed them aside as being a result of a mind with too much time on its hands. All the more reason for him to get back to work as soon as possible.

“Nick, you can't expect me to believe that someone with as much experience in law enforcement as yourself doesn’t have a superb memory," she chided hm, “after all, this man was living in your attic, in fact”, she looked down at the file, “you are still living in the same house, so why don’t you start from the beginning. Tell me what first tipped you off that something wasn’t right”

Nick let out a deep sigh. This was one smart lady, but maybe if he humored her and told her about Nigel, and how he had let that go as well, she would realize that he was ok and let him off with only two or three sessions. “Ok, so we are at a crime scene and the body was posed......something about it looked familiar to me, but I didn’t know what...........listen, Dr. Farber, this is really boring, and I don’t want to waste your time with something that happened too long ago to matter. ”

“Go on,” she said, “ I am a huge fan of all those crime TV shows, so this is very interesting to me, plus the city is paying for you to be here an hour, and as tempting as it is to just take their money and let you go, I actually enjoy having a practice, so I am stuck with you for at least another 45 minutes, and I might as well use them to have you entertain me, right?”

He looked up at her in disbelief, then he saw the crinkles at the corners of her eyes. She was teasing him. What kind of professional would do that? Then again she was Greg’s therapist, so who knew what kind of professional she was. He might as well just tell her what happened and get it over with before she asked him to a concert, or tried to have him name that mental disease from a drawing on the wall.

“Alright”, he said, “so the body was posed.............”

Nick walked out of the office building and into the hot Nevada sun. He wasn’t looking forward to the next few weeks off, or the daily visits to Dr. Farber, but maybe it wouldn’t be that bad. She seemed ok, even if she could see right through his patented southern charm. He would wear her down though, make her see that he really was ok, and get her to sign him off to go back to work sooner then he was scheduled to.

He was startled to see Greg leaning against a planter in front of the building. Greg was staring off into the distance, like he was contemplating something of great importance, his eyes narrowed against the sun.

“Hey, man, what are you still doing here?”, Nick broke into Greg’s reverie.

“Oh, hey Nick, I was waiting to talk to you, actually.....” Greg looked a little nervous. “Umm, you said that Cath was making you take some time off, right?” He looked over at Nick, who nodded in reply, “Well I have been working a lot of overtime, and Grissom told me to take a few days off, so I was wondering if you would like to go get a beer, or some dinner, or something......” Greg trailed off, looking cautiously at Nick.

Nick contemplated the offer. Really he wanted to go home and stew in his anger at Catherine, but then again, telling Dr. Farber about Nigel had made the incident fresh in his mind, and he wasn’t really sure he could face his dark empty house, and the memories of what had happened there.

“Sure”, Nick replied, “but I get to pick the place, I know your taste, and I just don’t feel up to it after getting my brain picked.”

Greg laughed in reply, “I told you she was good, did she make you tell her stories, saying you were there to ‘entertain’ her?”

Nick looked up at him, startled, “Yeah, she did, how did you know?”

“That’s what she did to me when Grissom sent me to her after the explosion. Made me tell her stories about anything but the explosion. I told her I just needed to get something to make the shaking in my hands stop, but she wanted stories......she’s a smart lady, Nick, she can really help you”, with that Greg started out to his car, “ if you are picking the place, I’m driving, so lets go”.

Nick watched Greg make his way across the parking lot. This was very interesting. Maybe Greg could help him convince the good doctor to send him back to work early.

Silly, silly Nick. You aren't OK! The sooner you realize that the sooner you'll realize that Greg is the only thing that will make you OK and we can get on to the slashy goodness.

I'm really liking this so far, can't wait for more!

This is a great story. I can't wait for the next chapter. Question: When did the lab blow up? Am I the only the one who hasn't seen this episode?

Aww Nicky you poor poor dilusional boy. You're so broken that you can't even see it.

Good thing Greg's hanging around to help find the pieces.

More soon??

So wonderful! And the Dr. character is very believable, and of course, your Nick and Greg as well. And don't feel like you have to force the slashiness just yet, we all know it's unavoidable and one day the characters will get there. =)

I can't wait to see where you're going with this, I love the pacing as well.

I'm liking this and I'm glad to see you also have trouble getting them to do what you want. They're so willful. But you're heading in a great direction. Can't wait to see more.
