Date: 2010-10-25 04:14 am (UTC)“Breathe.”
Greg’s heart beats faster with every forced breath.
“Look at me.”
He couldn’t see anything. He couldn’t focus.
Nick and Greg were at an old warehouse processing a victim who had been hanging from an old rafter. There had been a Halloween party and the guest just thought the girl who was hanging was a manikin, a life like manikin.
Nick had been interviewing party guests and Greg was supposed to be taking pictures of the victim. When Nick glanced over toward Greg, he noticed him shaking and sweating.
“G, you’re scaring me. What’s wrong?”
Greg couldn’t talk, couldn’t make his mouth form the words.
“Talk to me Greg. What happened?”
He couldn't say the words. He couldn't tell Nick that he had just seen Demetrius James.
Greg was taking routine pictures when he had seen him. Demetrius James. Standing not five feet from him. ‘NO’ his mind shouted! He was dead. He had killed him. The city paid the family.
Nick looked to where Greg was staring. There was a young boy, dressed as a mummy. He noticed his eyes. The white contacts the boy was wearing to complete his look. Then it hit him. Greg must think he is seeing Demetrius James.
“You’re safe Greg. It’s not him. He‘s dead.”
Greg feels a warm hand grasped his own. He instantly begins to focus and realize exactly what is happening. It’s just his mind playing a trick on him. But it doesn’t stop the stray tear from falling down his cheek. Then he feels it. Warm breath against his cheek. A brushing of lips stopping the tear in it’s track.
“Let me take you home, baby.”
Greg finally turns to look at his best friend, his lover, his soul mate. He can see the love in his eyes and instantly feels safe and secure. As they leave the crime scene, Nick holds Greg close. No words needing to be exchanged.

Date: 2010-11-01 03:17 am (UTC)Poor Greg. Those contacts – and on a mummy – I can see why he freaked.
Luckily for him, you had Nick right there; ready to make it all better.
Filled (Part One)
Date: 2010-10-27 02:39 am (UTC)Greg had a bad feeling that night, but they needed groceries and he beat Nick home so he decided to head to the nearest market just to get the basics and something to throw together for dinner. Normally, he would have taken some time to browse the store’s Halloween decorations, especially while they were on sale so close to the holiday, but he wasn’t as into the holiday this year and he did not want to ponder why.
He had tried not to think of that night…even as he parked into the alley beside the store and felt the first telltale signs of fear ghosting down his spine. He tried not to think about it as some costumed kid shoved past him while he waited in line…even though his hands started to tremble. He even tried not to think about it when the group of college aged kids across the street started yelling insults at passersbys…including Greg.
Greg sat in his little Jetta, ready to start the car and head home, but he looked up just as one of the kids turned to look at him…and then he couldn’t not think about it. There were those eyes again, the ones he had seen in nightmares for weeks. There were others in the group too, wearing different contacts or facial appliances and dark hoods and cloaks.
Greg closed his eyes and tried to concentrate on breathing, which was growing more difficult by the second. He remembered the shock he’d felt when Demetrius James didn’t get up after the Denali struck him; he recalled the sudden switch from shock to fear as his rear window was smashed; he remembered struggling uselessly as he was pulled out of his window.
Greg vaguely remembered being thrown up against a wall before he fell to the ground, but at that point, his mind had drifted while his body apparently decided to try to crawl away…until someone stomped on his wrist and kicked him over. Greg would have thought he’d be more scared of their appearances at the time, after all, he’d been terrified by the monsters in Disney‘s Sleeping Beauty as a child. Instead, he had wondered about the first victim, who had not known that a group of people was going around beating others to death. He wondered if the poor man had thought they were some sort of demons…
That skill had always been his most useful defense, aside from humor. He let his mind focus on some seemingly random detail, until it drifted away and he was barely aware of what was being said or done to him. Greg hadn’t used that defense in years…partly because it only worked for the time being. Afterwards, he would feel everything he had not let himself register before, and it had been no different with the fannysmacking party, as he later learned they called it.
That was happening now. Greg was remembering all of the fear and pain he had ignored in the alley and the hospital, and even the lab. He knew he couldn’t ignore it anymore…but he also didn’t think he could handle it all alone.
With hands that were almost shaking too much to function properly, Greg managed to hit the first speed dial on his cell.
Greg could hear the smile in Nick‘s voice as he answered. “Hey, is it crowded out there? Just forget the groceries; we’ll order out or eat mac ‘n’ cheese or…” Nick stopped as though it suddenly occurred to him that Greg hadn’t spoken yet, and the younger man knew his breathing sounded scared and shallow. “Greg?”
“Nick…” Even Greg’s voice was shaking. “I’m okay; I just-” He swallowed thickly, “I’m a little f-freaked out…”
“Where are you?” Nick didn’t sound as though he were smiling anymore “What’s goin’ on?”
“I’m p-parked in the-” Greg’s voice hitched before he attempted a deeper breath, “The alley by the store. I’m fine…I just- Could you do s-something for me?”
The Texan sounded very concerned. “Anything, doll; what do you need?”
Filled (Part Two)
Date: 2010-10-27 02:57 am (UTC)Greg could tell Nick wanted to demand that he tell him why he was so scared, but instead, he started talking...about the pie Greg made that he stole a slice of while he was waiting, even though they were saving it. Then he told Greg about a recent phone call he’d had with his mother, about how she wanted to know if Greg could join him when he came home for Thanksgiving. As Nick spoke, Greg blocked out everything but the sound of his voice
Until someone knocked on his window. Greg's eyes flew open and he dropped the phone as his whole body lurched. If he could breathe properly, he would have screamed. Instead he looked to his right and saw Nick standing there.
“Hey, baby.” Nick forced a smile as Greg stared at him in shock. “Open up.”
Greg quickly unlocked the door and scooted over to the passenger seat. Nick climbed in and pushed the driver's seat back to give him more chest room, and then glanced around, as though looking for threats before he reached out and placed a hand on Greg’s neck.
There had been times when Greg had argued that Nick tried to shield or coddle him as he would a girlfriend. The Texan didn’t see anything wrong with that, but Greg didn’t like the feeling that he was considered frail or defenseless. Now, however, Greg didn’t care if he seemed weak as he threw himself against Nick, gripping his shirt and pressing his face against the Texan’s neck.
Nick wrapped his arms around Greg tightly. “Shh, it’s okay, baby…I gotcha.”
For a while -neither could say just how long- they simply held onto each other as though they never planned to let go. Finally, when Greg could breath and his body was only trembling instead of shaking, Nick stroked his back and asked, “What’s goin’ on, G?”
Greg pulled back just enough to look at his boyfriend, because he knew Nick would never believe he was alright if he couldn’t see his eyes. His voice was hoarse when he answered; “I hate alleys…and I’m not too thrilled about Halloween right now either.” Nick looked confused, so he pointed across the street.
Nick turned his head and immediately focused in on the group of kids, which had dwindled in size slightly since Greg had called him. “Damn it,” the Texan growled. His voice softened when he talked to Greg again, “Baby…I’m sorry. C’mon, let’s go home.”
Greg nodded; being home with Nick sounded perfect. “Just give me a minute…I don’t think I’m good to drive yet.”
“Greg,” Nick’s voice was even, but he offered Greg a warm smile as he caressed his cheek. “You aren’t driving anywhere tonight. Just buckle up; I’m taking you home.”
Greg was about to nod, but stopped when he realized he had no idea how Nick had gotten there. A glance out the rear window answered that: Nick’s truck was parked at the other end of the alley. “What about your truck?”
“It’ll be fine.” Nick gripped Greg‘s shoulders and eased him back into his seat, then he fastened his seatbelt. “We can pick it up tomorrow.” He cut Greg off before he could argue. “Babe, it’s a truck. I’m worried about you now. I want to get you home.”
Nick took a deep breath, “Then, I want you to tell me about what happened tonight…and what happened that night. I know it’s my fault we never talked about it before -don’t even try to argue- and I’m sorry. I didn’t handle it well. I was just so desperate at the thought of what could’ve happened. I could’ve lost you, G.”
“Nick,” Greg didn't notice the tears falling down his face. He stroked Nick’s jaw and leaned in for a kiss. “It’s not your fault. I was scared to bring it up; I should have tried harder. I’m sorry t-”
“Don’t, G,” Nick whispered and shook his head. “Don’t apologize.” He reached over and rubbed Greg’s thigh. “None of this is your fault. Let’s just go home.”
Greg nodded, then he raised Nick’s hand to kiss it. He focused on the smell and feel of Nick sitting beside him until his breathing returned to normal and only his hands were trembling. “Hey, Nick?” Greg looked at his boyfriend, who glanced his way before returning his gaze to the road. “Thanks for coming to get me.”
Nick smiled softly. “Anytime, babe.”

Date: 2010-11-01 03:21 am (UTC)You did an excellent job of depicting the residual effects of Greg’s trauma; the anxiety was palpable. And having Nick show up while they were still on the phone was definitely squee-worthy.
And yay! I love it when Nick calls Greg, babe.
Re: Filled (Part Two)

Date: 2010-10-25 12:51 pm (UTC)Filled Halloween Party
Date: 2010-10-26 03:00 am (UTC)“Why can’t I just wear a pair of jeans and a button down shirt? I’ll even wear my cowboy boots and hat and go as Billy the Kid.” Nick was desperately trying to convince Greg that his idea was a suitable outfit for a Halloween party.
“No Nicky. It’s boring. You’ll basically just be going as yourself. What you need is something daring, something edgy, my friend.” Greg stated it with such a determined voice that Nick knew he was trouble. He knew he was in trouble because of his feelings for Greg. He’s wanted to be more than just friends with Greg since the day they met. He’s always been to scared to say anything for fear of rejection and ruining a great friendship. But yeah, Nick knew he would do just about anything to make Greg happy.
“How about you go as a biker dude? Yeah, we can get you some fake tattoos and put them on your arms and neck. Come on Nick, it’ll be great. And I have everything you’ll need right in my closet. Be at my place by seven o’clock and I’ll work my magic on you.” Greg looked so excited about the idea that Nick just couldn’t say no.
So, here in stood in the middle of Greg’s living room wearing leather pants so tight he was afraid to bend over for fear of them ripping right up the seem. He had chains hanging from the belt loops of his pants that rattled every time he took a step. Greg had also convinced him to wear a leather vest, opened in the front, exposing his bare chest. He blushed remembering how Greg’s hands felt on his skin as he carefully placed each fake tattoo.
“OK Nick, I just have one last detail to complete your outfit” Greg yelled as he walked down the hall toward the living room.
Nick’s jaw dropped to the floor. There stood Greg, dressed in the shortest skirt he’d ever seen, the black leather hugging his hips so tight Nick could actually make out the bulge in the front of it. Nick let his eyes travel upward to take in the complete look. Greg was wearing a very girly, pink tee shirt that said ‘Let’s Make Out’ across the front of it and a studded collar around his neck. And was that make up? Yes, Greg was wearing make up. Very trashy looking make up. He was also wearing a bleach blond wig that was so long it reached the small of his back. Nick noticed that Greg appeared taller. He looked down to confirm his suspicions, Greg was wearing high heeled boots that went up to knees.
“What do you think?” Greg asked as he did a little twirl to give Nick the full view.
Nick just continued to stare. He couldn’t get his brain to tell his mouth to say something.
“Hello. Nick? Are you there?” Greg was waving his hand in front of Nick’s face trying to get his attention. “So, what do you think?” Greg was smiling the brightest smile with his ruby red lips knowing exactly what Nick was thinking. Or at least hoping.
“Yeah, Greg…um…you look…um…different.” Nick brain was still a step or two behind trying to process what he was seeing. What exactly was he seeing? His best friend. His very manly best friend that he was attracted to, dressed as a women. Shit. Nick could feel the front of his, already way to tight, leather pants getting tighter.
“So, what do think?” Greg asked again, wiggling his ass for a little extra effect.
“Who are you supposed to be going as?” Nick brain was starting to function again.
“Your date Nick. I’m what’s completing your look. You can't be a bad ass biker dude without a bad ass biker bitch” Greg said, throwing his arms around Nick’s neck.
As they walked out of Greg’s apartment heading to Catherine’s, Nick was suddenly looking forward to the party. Oh, he was definitely going to make Greg his biker bitch tonight. And hopefully, tomorrow he could convince Greg to be more, to be his man.

Re: FILLED: Trick or Treat
Date: 2010-10-28 09:56 pm (UTC)Well, I know a lot of the old ranches/families where I live have registered family/ranch brands...and Nick's dad mentioned their Ranch in Grave Danger, so maybe you could write something in which Greg get either tattoos or branded with the Stokes 'label'. I know I'd read it.
Re: FILLED: Trick or Treat
Date: 2010-10-31 08:44 am (UTC)THIS. Exactly this. I find it rather tiresome that sometimes (in fandom as well in real life;) it is sort of expected of couples to "have" kids, just because they are committed to each other. Kids are not the final accessory to complete a relationship and it would be better or at least refreshing to have people realize this.
*steps off soapbox*
Sadly I can't write, so I have no choice but to poke people;)
