S3Ep02 The Accused Is Entitled
We thought we had seen a lot of flirting in the first two seasons, but our guys really got into each other in Season 3. Here's a classic Greg stunt: Nick tries to ignore Greg and focus on the job, but Greg knows how to get Nick's attention;)

After a quick bite in the breakroom...^
01.
{...nibble...}

02.
{...nibble...}

... it's back to work...
03.
Nick is studying the tapes from the casino when...

04.
...his phone beeps! Who could it be?" ...

05.
Well, whatdoyaknow: it's Greg

06.
Hi Greg!

07.
{*deep breath* Focus on the job, focus on the job}

08.
{I can totally do this. FOCUS. *determined face*}

09.
Dumdumdum

10.
NICK: You beeped me from across the hall?

11.
GREG: Uh, yeah.

12.
GREG: I waved;...

13.
GREG: ...you didn't look up.

14.
{Ahw. Dork.}

15.
{I was trying not to get distracted by you.}

16.
{Is that so. Hmmm. Let's talk business then...}

17.
GREG: The blood contributions on that die ...
NICK: Yeah?

18.
GREG: ...Chad Michael MurrayTom Haviland and Kim.
NICK: So when he blew on the dice, he blew victim blood.

19.
GREG: Now, I know I haven't been getting out in the field very much, {and I'm not bitter about that AT ALL}...

20.
GREG: ... but how does a guy get a girl's blood in his mouth when he's killing her?

21.
NICK: Murder's messy, my friend.

22.
GREG: So, now you have to find it on the surveillance tape?

23.
NICK: If I want to present it to a jury, yeah.

24.
NICK: Nowadays, people expect a show.

25.
{I bet you would be great at giving a presentation;)}

26.
NICK: I should've gone to film school.
Oh, hi there, Nick's tight fancy pants

27.
{See you after court?}

Ahw, Nick's little smile! Greg's face! Aren't they adorable?

^The eating scene at the top was added because of a personal kink of the mod on duty in that scene Nick and Greg have a lot of identical responses during the teamdiscussion. We recommend a rewatch to discover all their synchronized moves;)

Now, let's talk about that beeping moment! You know from previous episodes Greg always adds science/nerd jokes to his text-messages. What did Nick read on his phone that made him look up? Discuss!

Oooh, I think you're close; although I suspect Greg might have kept his wording a little more suggestive instead of going for full on loving;)
I think 'get results' could already be interpreted on a different level. *grins*

It was probably a picture of his penis.

Then why would Nick need to look up? :-p

(Also: not a smart thing to wave in someone's face in the workplace;)

Oh, that can be interpreted in a lot of ways;)

All their moments together have a little sparkle. I love them too:)

I've seen this episode several times, yet I somehow failed to notice until now, just how disturbed Greg looks when he's asking Nick about the blood in the saliva. Nick's expressions afterwords are excellent, like he's totally gauging Greg's reaction and is somewhat hesitant to...I guess 'further taint his innocence' would be the best way to describe it. It's actually a really nice moment to define the two characters at this point, as well as their relationship.

I'm guessing Greg's page (at this point in time) was more geeky and less suggestive, whether he intended it that way or not. Not to mention it's work related page and they're at work; I doubt he put in anything too risky.

I don't know if I said it before, but I so love your analyses of them. You always give me new insights in their chemistry. This time about Greg's innocence. We all remember how baffled Greg was out in the field in 'Chasing The Bus'; it's obviously hard for him to realize from the -relative- safety of his lab that there are actual people involved in the cases on his desk. It's what makes it easier for him to joke around. Nick usually manages to remind him of the seriousness of the job. And I think he admires Nick extremely for being out there and being able to deal with the human aspect. He ofcourse also adores Nick for being a scientist and how he's able to answer all his questions and challenges.

I tried to find that text message Greg once sent to Grissom and Nick when he took on the identity of well known scientists, but couldn't find it. But yeah, I'm pretty sure his page would be more of a brainy joke than a physical one:)

Thank you very much. It's nice to know I'm giving you another perspective to consider. ^_^ Oh, Greg looked so far out of his comfort zone in Chasing the Bus (I'd say it was equal to No Humans Involved...I felt especially bad for the character in that one).

I think (while in the lab) Greg didn't so much as forget the fact that people were involved, but the fact that people can be as cruel as they can be. Whenever something reminds him that it's just people doing this to others, he seems effected. It definitely makes it easier to joke and kid (although I also think that's something of a defense for him). I certainly agree with you on the many reasons why he admires Nick. Nick definitely seems to be an idol of his in the early seasons.

Oh...I can't recall the exact wording either, but I know exactly which texts you're referring to. it was something like Mr. (one of the discoverers of DNA here) requests your presence.

Oooh, an excellent point about the effect of field-work on Greg. Strangely enough Nick is also someone who has an eternal trust in people, yet he seems to be able to cope much better with the evilness that's out there (Although I remember him being out of his comfortzone a couple of times... Lady Heather anyone? Not that she was evil, but he seemed to just not get that *grins*)

Your memory was a lot better than mine and because you mentioned the DNA reference I managed to track down Greg's geeky page! It's from S3Ep17 Crash and Burn. An episode worthy of a Classic Moment discussion later. For now I'll just do a short paste from the transcript to give you the exchange between Greg, Grissom and Nick:

DNA LAB - GREG sits at his lab table listening to rock music blaring from his tape machine. GRISSOM and NICK walk into the lab. GRISSOM turns the music off. GREG looks up.
GRISSOM: I just got a page from James Watson.
NICK: And I got one Francis Crick. What's going on, Greg?
GREG: Well, as you both know ... Watson and Crick are the grand-daddies of DNA. Without their discoveries, I'd have nothing to do all day.
NICK: What have you been doing all day?

:-)

Thank you. I think that might be one of the reasons why those two were initially drawn to each other. They both share an inborn trust in the goodness of mankind, despite all the evidence to the contrary they've been exposed to. Nick seems to react to sexual deviance more, where as Greg responds to torture/extended suffering. Nick's makes sense, given his reveal in Overload...I can't help but wonder what Greg's deal is.

Oh, yes; that's it! Thanks for tracking that scene down. I also loved the fact that Nick smiles at Greg and turns his music back on for him before he follows Grissom out. Considering the way Nick was always trying to impress Grissom back then, it really shows how much he cares for and/or appreciates his little lad rat.

You have no idea how much I admire you, no idea. You hit the nail on the head with the difference between Nick and Greg's approach to life/cases.
I think Greg has been on the receiving end of bullying but never quite understood why people would want to harm others.
Ah yes, Nick's childhood experience sure explains his vanilla point of view, I didn't mean to make light of that. He also seems to have a problem with not sex related issues outside of the norm though. (The monks, the little people, especially in the past Grissom had to scold Nick for his assumptions)

Nick's smooth move at the end of that scene is the main reason for this being a classic Nick/Greg moment. I will make screencaps for everyone to reminisce;)

Again, thank you. I agree with your thoughts on Greg. Also, he's mentioned his overbearing/overprotective mother and his first roommate in college who obviously was a bully, so I'm wondering if he had any culture shock type issues when he first left home. He also seemed to be intimidated (almost afraid) of strong authority figures during the first few seasons.

That does make sense, and I wouldn't think you were making light of the situation. You have a very good point there. Where as Greg seems to embrace (and even find comfort in, to an extent) the abnormal and unique aspects of life/culture, Nick's comfort zone is definitely in the more mundane, vanilla aspects. Once he hits any special interest/minority, he has to proceed with caution (especially in the earlier seasons).

It is a lovely little moment, isn't it? Awesome! I look forward to swiping seeing them. ^_~

I’d guess that Greg signed the message either “not so Little Joe from Kokomo,” or “Hard 8.” (Little Joe from Kokomo and Hard 8 are craps terms meaning a pair of twos or fours respectively.)

Both those signatures would work to Greg’s advantage. If Nick were offended by the double meanings, Greg could feign innocence and accuse Nick of having a dirty mind. If he liked the innuendo – then all the better for both men.

I love your icon (and Nick’s bottom as well).

You should definitely not be in awe of my knowledge.

My experience with dice is limited to childhood board games such as Yahtzee and Parcheesi.

I learned about “Little Joe from Kokomo,” and a few other craps terms from an early Abott and Costello film.
