Hey guys! Has anyone read any of the CSI novels? Just wondering if they were any good and if they had any yummy subtext.

Most of me is wary of books like these because they are essentially fanfiction... Which is free on the internet, lol. However, the stories do look fairly interesting and I do love me a murder mystery novel.

Thanks!

I haven't read any of the novels, but someone gave me a CSI manga as a present, which was rather cool. I wrote a review here (http://beelikej.livejournal.com/276227.html#CSImanga) if you're interested;)

I liked "Snake Eyes" a lot, that one's worth reading. :) I borrowed it from the library, and it's on my bookshopping list now.

I've got a few of them, and although there are different authors, they seem to mostly read like the episodes play out. I haven't noticed subtext in the ones I've read so far (In Extremis, Cold Burn), but they are good reads. Well worth checking out, IMO :D

I personally hate them. I read Snake Eyes, and to me just seemed like a very poorly written fanfiction. I mean....Greg would never go gangster on a guy with his gun seeing as HE DOESN'T CARRY A GUN. I mean, do they even watch the show at all?
But that's just my opinion.

I've read quite a lot of them (not all, still working on that XD), and I enjoyed them. There's not really any subtext, and some thing make me go 'huh?' (like Greg carrying a gun. Wut?), but overall, I liked reading them. :)

I've read a few of them by Max Alan Collins, and they're pretty good...not great, but a nice, quick read. I recommend buying Mortal Wounds (which is his first three bound together) to see. It's less expensive than buying three books separately and gives you a decent feel for his work.

I've received mostly negative feedback from anyone who read the books by other authors. It seems they have a lot of characterization issues, such as Greg carrying a gun (and the manner in which he wields it), Sara eating meat, or the mild tension between Sara and Sophia being upgraded to a strong (if one-sided) dislike.

There are a couple WTF moments (like Nick thinking of how he bought oils for his deceased ex-girlfriend, Kristi...who he actually only had a one night stand with in the show) in M. A. C.'s books too, but they're usually short scenes that happen in-passing of more significant moments. Overall, the characterization and pacing are decent. The cases themselves are very good.

The grammar (and general ability to fit in with the series) is better than most novels of this sort that I've read. I hope that helps. I think you can read a few pages of some of the books on Amazon.

I have read all the books. I agree with much that has been said about them. If you can read them purely for the fun of it, or if you are looking for some mindless easy reading, then go for it.
