Birthday drabble
Mar. 1st, 2010 11:25 amIn honor of George Eads' 43rd birthday, I figured I would try my hand at something short and drabbley. Nonbeta'd, so any mistakes are completely my own fault. Yes, this is my first posted fic. Yes, it's slash. Yes, it is fluff with no real substance. No, I don't really need a reason :)
Title: Birthday drabble
Author: cali_cowgirl08
Pairing: Nick/Greg
Rating: PG13 (for one little sorta bad word)
Summary: A shift from hell and a Post-it.
Disclaimer: Not mine, wish they were, what else is new?
Nick rolled his shoulders as he wearily pushed open the locker room door. To say it had been a long day would not do justice to the double-shift from hell. A band’s rolled tour bus, two teenagers on a video-game inspired car chase, several mysterious poisonings, and a break in at the mayor’s uptown estate added to the usual cases had left the lab scrambling. With four CSIs from swing and days at a conference in Poughkeepsie (seriously, who held forensic seminars in New York in winter?), nightshift had been forced to cover, while Ecklie griped about paying for the overtime.
Since they had picked up the slack, nightshift was allowed the next day off, though Ecklie grumbled about that too. So now, shift was finally, gloriously over, and Nick had only one thing on his mind: go home and crash for the next twelve hours. With no need to be on call, he could even turn off his cell. He sighed. Sure, sleep was a good start, but he hadn’t gone grocery shopping in close to a month, as his empty stomach so kindly reminded him at that moment. Stifling a yawn, he opened his locker, prepared to cram his two changes of dirty clothes into his bag, pausing when a folded yellow Post-it fluttered out. Grinning softly, he reached for it, scanning the familiar scrawl.
Nick-
Heard shift sucked. Also, your fridge could comfortably house a penguin it’s so empty. See you when you get here. G
Suddenly the Texan let out a soft laugh. Greg seemed to have a knack for fixing things, from sleep deprivation to condescending superiors to rumbling stomachs, all with his typical humor. Shoving his mud-stained jeans into his bag, Nick smiled, some of the tension slowly easing from his neck as he headed for the parking lot.
Like it? Hate it? Suggestions would be mucho appreciated :D
