S2Ep18: Chasing The Bus
An epic episode; it's Greg's first time out in the field! But Nick doesn't seem too happy to see him out there. Oh dear.
Here are four scenes to analyze; we included the original dialogue or added subtext. But we were lost for words on a couple of looks between the guys: we would love to hear what you think of those!

-------------SCENE 1-------------
01.
NICK: Whoa, what are you doing here, Greg?

02.
GREG: All hands on deck. That was the call, right? Crims on the scene.

03.
GREG: ... Come on. I'm capable.

04.
GRISSOM: (to NICK) He does no collection.

05.
{Shouldn't I have come?}

06.
NICK: You didn't bring a warmer jacket?
GREG: No.

07.
{OMG, you think I shouldn't be here}

08.
... :(

-------------SCENE 2-------------

A.
Hey, hello, Nick's tight ass pants!

B.
Tongues!

C.

D.

E.
NICK: I need a doctor over here. Greg, get some help.
(GREG doesn't move; he's frozen.)
NICK: Greg!

-------------SCENE 3-------------

I.
NICK: It's all right, man. Stop apologizing.
GREG: I feel bad. I just froze up.

II.
NICK: That's why we have fielding training, Greg. No disrespect, but you're not qualified to be out here.

GREG: I guess I just wasn't expecting blood to look like that. Pre-collection, so different.

NICK: Yup. I remember my first time in the field. CSI One. Green as could
be. Initial call was a robbery. I get there, triple homicide. Blood all over the place, mother and two kids.

GREG: How do you deal?

NICK: You just do.

-------------SCENE 4-------------

16.
{I'm still cold, wanna warm me up?}

We've always wondered why Nick didn't offer Greg his jacket. When studying this scene we learned he had another method of warming Greg up...

17.
{Oh, hello Nick's tight ass pants}

18.
{Heh. Oh yeah, that got me all hot.}

19.
{Shut up, Greg.}

I liked this scene. You'd think Nick would be a really patient teacher (the way he is for Ray) but some reason with Greg he was all cranky pants and snappish. I really don't think he wanted Greg out in the field.

I wonder if it was to keep Greggo out of danger or just that he finds Greg very distracting.

Or you could go with door number three and guess that it was during the period (in my head, this is all in my head btw) where he didn't take Greg seriously and didn't think Greg could hack it.

Which of course, made Greg even more nervous, and so he screwed up and proved Nick right. Relationship setback!

I think (in my head;) that Nick just wasn't prepared to see Greg. Out in the field he can be his own man without distractions and all of a sudden there is the guy that makes him lose focus. It's like worlds colliding: Greg + Lab is one world, outside that building Nick doesn't have to deal with feelings. His comfort zone (the job) is breached and he needs time to adjust.
He is trying though: when he's dealing with the busdriver he is as much explaining what he's doing to Greg as he is explaining it to the driver. And he is definitely reaching out when talking about his own experience.

I don't think it had anything to do with Nick thinking Greg wasn't smart enough but maybe he was worried Greg was too eager to dive in.

I love that Greg is the one who suggest looking inside the bus (and you can see Grissom appreciates his input). It's obvious he is thinking outside the box and that's definitely a useful trade out in the field.

Okay, so basically he screwed up, but in the end this was a huge step in the right direction both for Greg's career as for their relationship. Of course Greg will now look up to his hero even more, but Nick is going to feel guilty about how he treated Greg and is forced to take action to make him feel better.

*hugs the crack*

Imagine that explanation? Greggo, this is my Greg-free zone. I need it.

What? Crazy talk. What does that even mean?

It means I... here Nick stops to blush and rub at his neck. Nothing, G. Nothing.

Though *why* didn't he offer skinny little Greg his jacket? It's the gentlemanly thing to do. Pooh.

Will this action to make him feel better involve bjs?

Hey, that awkward dialogue goes very well with pics C and D. ;)

I remember watching this episode for the first time and yelling at Nick to give Greg his jacket. When he took it off to search the bus, I thought he would, but yet again he managed to focus on the case and ignore his crush. Dammit.

(Also: when Nick did the gentlemanly thing years later in Rashomama and offered his jacket to that skank that gave him her number, I once again told him off for not doing that for Greg. I may be too invested in this relationship *grins*)

Aargh, they took so long to get together, if only Nick hadn't been fighting his feelings all these years.

Oh, I bet bjs had to be offered to make things better.

AGREED. It is always Nick's fault that they took so long to get together! Always!

Maybe he was "punishing" Greg in a dom type of way for disobeying orders and coming out there. Greg does sort of thrive on pushing past Nick's defenses. though it would get damn exhausting after a while and Nick would still owe him BJs.

Ngh.
Huh: whenever I'm analyzing Nick I'm totally projecting.
But when it comes to his dom issues, I'm always switching to Greg's pov. Heh. I'm a switch.

I blame you.

I could kill you for making me write this you know. But instead I love you, and will try not to read too much into that. Or picture anything. Or torture you anymore with references to what is happening (or not happening) in my Word file right now.
