One shot!

It was Greg Sanders’ first day of work as a DNA lab technician for the Las Vegas crime lab. He’d got the job straight out of college. The hangover from his graduation party hadn’t even quite worn off when he left his home in California and headed for the bright lights of Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps. Now he walked down the hallway of the crime lab, lost and worried about his new life and what his future held for him. He’d left behind his family and friends, by his own choice. His mother was overbearing, and his father was just absent from his life. To top it off, he was an only child with no one else to turn to. So, in his senior year of college, he started looking into his prospects and where he wanted it to start. Las Vegas seemed to be perfect. As he turned the corner of the hall, he slammed hard into another body, a muscular man, just a tad shorter than himself, dark brown hair and eyes to match.  Greg stumbled backwards but caught himself on the wall and managed to stay on his feet.

The other man frowned, but reached out to try to stop Greg from falling down. “Whoa there, slow down. You okay, buddy?”

Greg was caught off guard when he heard the other man’s Texan accent. He’d thought he was in Las Vegas.  “Yeah, I’m fine. I’m so sorry for running into you. My legs were moving faster than my brain.”

“That’s okay, little buddy. Are you lost? Are you here on a field trip with your school?”

Greg chuckled at the man calling him ‘little’, for the fact he was more than an inch taller than him.  “Ah no I’m…”

“Well then, you’re not supposed to be in here.” The man cut him off with a stern voice. “This is a restricted area for personnel only.”

Asshole!  Greg was able to refrain from saying it out loud, but he was sure his face showed what he was thinking.

Greg suddenly remembered the new ID badge he’d been given, that he’d shoved into his pocket of his jeans. He pulled it out and held it up in front of him. “I’m new. I’m the new DNA tech.”

The man’s eyes scanned Greg’s body from head to toe. He covered up his mouth with his hand to hide his snicker at what he was seeing. The new DNA lab tech was wearing baggy jeans, black boots, and a very colorful dress shirt with a grey vest over it. His hair was quite bizarre-looking, like someone had cut it with their eyes closed, not to mention the strands of colorful highlights and purple locks sticking up in the back.  He looked like he was lucky if he was 18 years old. “How could this guy seriously be the new lab guy?” He thought to himself.

“I’m sorry, man. You’re really the new lab guy?” The man had a look of disbelief on his face.

Greg waved his badge at him. “Yes! I’m Greg Sanders; it’s ah… nice to meet you.” Greg couldn’t help but sound a little sarcastic with his introduction, after the way the man had been eyeballing him up, like he was some kind of freak show.

The older man held out his hand. “I’m Nick Stokes, CSI. Good to meet you too, welcome to the lab.” The man shot him a genuinely warm smile that eased the younger man’s tension.

Greg lifted his hand up and took a firm hold of the Texan’s hand. “Thanks! I ah… I’m a little lost. Could you point me in the right direction for Mr. Gil Grissom?”

Nick moved closer to the young tech and laid his hand on his back. “I’ll be more than happy to help you out, Greggo. You don’t mind me calling you that, do you?”

That touch sent chills down Greg’s spine, his fingers tingled, his legs became wobbly and he wasn’t sure if he was still breathing.

“Thanks.” Greg’s voice cracked, “No, its fine. No one has ever called me that before.”

Greg had had no idea that when he turned that corner, at that exact moment, his life would change forever. And that first touch, that would start all the innocent touches, the flirting, and the playful looks, that would turn into the greatest thing Greg had ever had in his life. True love. Greg had had many options for jobs in other states, cities, he had graduated top of his class and all the labs he applied to had wanted him, God, was he glad he chose Las Vegas!

The End!

Can I just say that I love the fact that you -unlike soooo many writers- remembered that Greg is taller than Nick. Thank you for that! Seems more realistic, something this fandom could use a little more of :)

Shiny fic.
