Title:  “Yard Work”

Rating: G

Pairing: Nick and Greg (I try to write other stuff…but so far I keep it to myself!)

Summary:  Homeowner’s association induced headache

It was going to be a long day.  Greg was already tired of the heat.  He was tired of the sand, gritty and hot against his feet.  He was tired of the sun; squinting into it was giving him a headache, and probably wrinkles.  He was tired of the fact that no matter how much he was tired of all of it, Nick wasn’t.

“The weeds will be happy to see us when the sun sets, Nick.  We don’t have to dig them all up now.”  Greg was tired of complaining.  If he was tired of his own voice, why didn’t Nick cave just to get him to shut up?

“We got a letter from the homeowner’s association, Greg.”  Nick was unnaturally patient with him this morning.  Greg was tired of that, too.  “We only have today clear, so we have to get this done today.”  Specious reasoning!  They could’ve hired somebody to do this for them.

“Don’t tell me again how we should have hired a lawn guy.”  Greg snapped his mouth shut.  He wasn’t!  “It was your idea to get a place with a yard, so just buck up and get back to work.”

Yard.  Well, the expanse of almost-grass struggling to survive in their crowded lot could probably be called a yard.  At the moment, there was more sand and weeds than grass.  It looked fairly pathetic.  No wonder the homeowner’s association was after them!  Greg sighed, swallowed yet another complaint and bent back to the used-to-be-flowerbed for another weed.

“Besides, if we wait until this evening to do yard work, we won’t have time to enjoy our day off in more pleasant ways.”  Nick was teasing now.  He knew exactly how to push all of Greg’s buttons, and the promise of time together, just them, was the surest one of all.

Just as Nick planned, Greg’s sweaty head popped up with that hopeful puppy look. It was one of his best looks, Nick thought.  “More pleasant in what ways?  What do you have planned?”  Greg was so easy.  Nick made a mental note to exploit this particular button more often.

“Pull the weeds, Greg.”  Nick smiled, making sure all his dimples showed.  It never hurt to pull out the big guns when you needed them.  “The sooner we get done, the sooner you find out.”

Greg bent back to his task with renewed zeal.  It made Nick smile again.  He didn’t actually have anything planned, but it was going to take a few more hours to get the yard squared away.  He’d think of something.  He took a moment to appreciate the view of Greg’s long back curved over the bed he was working on.  Nice.

He wouldn’t have any trouble thinking of something.  No trouble at all.  Something Greg never tired of, and hopefully never would.  It gave Nick a little renewed zeal himself as he bent back to his own task.  It was going to be a long night.

Thank the dear Lord that you write Nick & Greg stuff. Most of the boards are so dead I'm beginning to think we are coming to the end of the road for our lovely lads. I was so happy to see this and I can just see them trying to get grass to grow in Las Vegas without a water bill the size of the national debt. Funny Idea!
