Summary: Fathers before anything else...Nick and Greg take on the challenge of raising children
Disclaimer: Would I like to own them? YES. But do I? Alas No. I would also like to make money from this and marry Benji Schwimmer from So You Think You Can Dance but one must live in the real world. *sigh*
A/N: I’m alive! I’m alive! I’m sooooooooo sorry I’ve been MIA for like a month. I didn’t think school would take that much out of me but it did. I couldn’t write a chapter to save my soul, but not for lack of trying. I’ve written and rewritten this chapter probably about 7 times, all completely different. I hope I chose the right one to go with.

Chapter 17
“So it’s a Christmas party AND an anniversary party?” Catherine asked confused as she and Greg walked towards ballistics.
Greg scoffed, “Why is it such a hard concept for everyone to understand? Yes. We’re having a Christmas party and since Nick and my anniversary falls so close to Christmas we’re having a duel party.”
“Do we have to get you two presents?” Warrick asked as he passed having heard the topic of conversation.
“Nick said you don’t have too but as far as I’m concerned you do!” Greg called after him and Warrick turned and rolled his eyes with a chuckle before continuing on his way.
“And why are you suddenly celebrating an anniversary? Isn’t this your 11th or am I ahead a year?” Catherine asked as she and Greg continued on their way.
“No. No. It’s our 11th.” Greg explained as they rounded the corner into the ballistics lab and were greeted by Bobby and Nick.
“Greg didn’t think it appropriate to have a party for our tenth but our eleventh is apparently worth commemorating.” Nick chuckled hearing the conversation and Greg cuffed him in the shoulder.
“Well if you think about it we kept it hidden from you guys for two years, so…” Greg started.
“So we’re actually celebrating our 9th? Just as weird as the 11th, babe.” Nick laughed shaking his head.
“Just come.” Greg sighed looking at Catherine with pleading eyes.
“I’m there and so is Lindsey.” Catherine smiled and Greg whooped.
“Do you have our bullet match Bobby D?” Greg asked as Nick excused himself with a smile.
“I don’t even get an invite?” Bobby asked with fake horror, a chuckle in his thick southern accent.
“Even if you didn’t you’d still show up.” Greg chuckled as Bobby pursed his lips and spun the rifle sitting on the table in front of him.
“I don’t think I want to give you your results. Maybe I’ll just give them to Catherine.” He said threateningly.
Greg rolled his eyes, “Bobby I wasn’t even aware an invitation was still required where you’re concerned. But if it is; Nick and I are having a Christmas/Anniversary Party on Saturday after work, we would love for you to be there. Bring Craig and Abbey and anyone else you wish to accompany you.” He riddled off as Bobby moved his finger like a conductor with a smile on his face.
“See that’s all I ask for.” He smiled, “We still on for dinner at my place tomorrow.” He laughed.
“Yes. Results. Now.” Greg answered and Bobby laughed pointing to the microscope.
-- -- --
“Christ did you see how big Abbey is getting?” Greg asked closing the front door behind Nick the following day.
“No I had my eyes closed the entire night.” Nick cracked, “She is getting big though. Isn’t she only like four months older then Angelica?” He asked shrugging off his jacket.
“They grow so fast at that age.” Greg nodded, smiling as he felt Nick’s fingers slide over his shoulders and down his arms, bringing his jacket with them.
“Can you believe in four days we will have been together for ELEVEN years?” Nick asked softly circling his arms around Greg’s waist and laying his head in the crook of Greg’s neck.
“Oh I can believe it, it’s the fact that we haven’t been together for our entire lives that I can’t believe.” Greg sighed and felt Nick smile against his neck.
They stood quietly for several minutes, shifting back and forth from one foot to another, dancing to the music in each other’s heads. Greg turned slowly in Nick’s arms and put his forehead against Nick’s, sliding his hands up through Nick’s hair causing a low sigh from the older man.
“What do you say we…” Greg said and Nick hummed waiting for the rest, “take a nice long shower and then snuggle up and watch a movie? The kids will be at my mothers for hours yet.” He whispered and got Nick’s answer when he was pushed softly in the direction of the stairs.
He smiled and pulled Nick to the landing, their movements languid as they stepped into the bathroom. Nick unbuttoned his shirt as Greg turned to turn the shower on; adjusting the temperature until it was just the right mix of hot and cold to satisfy both his and Nick’s preferences.
Greg straightened his back when he felt Nick’s hand upon it and stood docile as he let Nick slide his shirt off his shoulders and to the floor. Greg turned to find Nick shirtless as well and smiled as he ran a hand over the hard chest in front of him. Everything seemed to be moving in slow motion; even the steam slowly filling the room. Two sets of jeans and boxers dropped to the floor almost at the same time and Nick and Greg walked hand and hand into the shower and under the spray.
They’d each had a shower not just four hours earlier, so the purpose of the shower was to relax more then it was to wash up. Greg turned Nick around and pressed his chest to Nick’s back; sliding his hands down his arms and across his stomach. Nick let out a low sigh and closed his eyes, dropping his head to rest on Greg’s shoulder; the mixture of the water running off his skin and Greg’s hands was exquisite.
The effect Greg was having on Nick was obviously having an effect on Greg and Nick smiled lazily pushing back against Greg who groaned softly into his ear, “Mmmmmm…fuck me?” Nick whispered into Greg’s ear before taking the lope before his teeth and tugging gently.
Greg half chuckled and half groaned, “That wasn’t supposed to be the intention of the shower.”
Nick ground his ass back into Greg, “Yeah because you don’t want to at ALL.” Nick drawled and Greg laughed.
“All right but later tonight when we’re too tired to get up with Angelica when she cries at 4:00 in the morning you must remember that I tried to stop this.” Greg stated, stepping out of the shower to grab the lube from the locked bathroom drawer. He turned to find Nick leaned against the shower wall bending over slightly and sticking out his ass; Greg grinned at the site.
“I’ll remember.” Was all Nick said before Greg was once again at his back, sliding his hands over the cheeks of his ass and dipping between them to rub gently at Nick’s opening. Nick sighed into the touch and pushed back further cause one of the fingers to disappear within.
Nick groaned at the initial penetration. It had been a while since he had been in that position and the stretch felt both familiar and strange at the same time. Greg seemed to take heed of that fact and took care to go slowly, giving Nick time to adjust, especially when he added a finger and then another, bringing the grand total up to three, “Fuck just do it already.” Nick whispered through gritted teeth worried that if Greg’s fingers brushed over his prostate one more time he would be coming whether Greg was inside him or not.
Greg slowly pulled his fingers out and before Nick could protest the lose he plunged his hard into the depth. He needed to be in Nick as much as Nick needed Greg to be inside him. Funny how a shower that started off with innocent intentions could end with the two of them fucking against the shower wall.
After only a few minutes Nick heard Greg groan from behind him and felt him shudder and pull out. Nick turned his head and said incredulously, yet out of breath, “You can’t be done.”
Greg chuckled, wrapping an arm around Nick’s waste and biting his shoulder, “Would I do that to you?” He asked innocently, “I just figured we could finish this in the comfort of our own bed. We’re getting pruney.” He commented.
Nick chuckled as he let Greg pull him from the shower, almost not allowing Nick to turn off the shower first, “We were fucking and you were thinking of our pruney fingers?”
Greg pushed Nick onto the bed and crawled on top of him, “I’m freaky like that. You know that’s why you married me.” He shrugged, plunging back into Nick before the other man could respond. The response that had been on Nick’s lips turned into a grunt at the movement.
They were quiet after that, the only sound in the room was their harsh breathing and the shifting of the sheets as Greg’s continually changed positions (had Nick not been so incoherent at that point he would have made note that even during sex Greg’s mild AADD dictated his actions).
Nick gasped as he felt his orgasm approaching; reaching up with one hand to grab the headboard as if it were the one thing grounding him to the earth. Greg recognized wide eyed gasp and smirked, pushing in faster and harder determined to have Nick come before himself.
Fire spread through Nick and he threw his head back as Greg once again brushed over his prostate and suddenly he was coming. He’d forgotten what coming was like from this end; different from the feeling of coming from being inside Greg. Every nerve in his body was sensitized and wired for sound and he was pretty sure he blacked out for a moment or two.
When he landed back on earth, Nick realized that Greg was still thrusting into him, obviously having not reached his peek. Nick lazily brought the hand that had been attached to the headboard and rubbed Greg’s stomach whispering encouraging words to the younger man, or what he thought were encouraging even though he couldn’t quite hear what he was saying.
It seemed to work however as Greg tensed and gritted his teeth and Nick felt warmed from the inside out. Greg collapsed on Nick with a satisfied smile and Nick slowly ran his fingers up and down Greg’s back, “You know,” Nick whispered softly, “in hindsight we really should have had a shower AFTER we did that and not before. Now we’re all sweaty.”
Greg grunted a reply and Nick chuckled before Greg lifted his head and put his chin on Nick’s chest, “You’re totally getting up with Angelica if she cries tonight.” He said simply and Nick just smiled lopsidedly running a hand over Greg’s damp cheek.
“I love you.” Nick whispered softly.
“I love you more.” Greg sighed happily.
-- -- --
Nick and Greg were cuddled under a blanket on the couch, each wearing cotton pajama and a soft cotton t-shirt watching ‘Die Hard’ (Greg’s publicly stated favourite Christmas movie, even though Nick knew it was actually ‘Frosty the Snowman’) an hour and a half later when the front door opened.
Nick hit pause on the remote control and pushed himself from the couch, subsequently bring Greg with him and they padded barefoot into the front hallway, “Daddy!” Charlie said happily jumping into Greg’s arms.
“It’s almost 1 in the morning, shouldn’t you be tired?” Greg asked groggily, having been so comfortable and half asleep against Nick’s chest.
“He got a hold of your father’s candy stash around 10.” Christine Sanders chuckled, walking through the door carrying a sleeping Angelica.
“Oh lovely.” Greg grumbled moving Charlie’s hand away as the four year old repeatedly poked Greg in the ear.
“How were they?” Nick asked taking Angelica from his mother in law’s arms and into his own.
“Perfect little angels, as usual.” Christine smiled rubbing Aidan’s back, who smiled sleepily.
“Thanks again mom.” Greg smiled.
“Oh anytime honey, anytime. Oh by the way your father and I MAY have inadvertently put a little idea in Charlie’s head while we were watching the Nutcracker ballet on television tonight.” Christine said sheepishly.
“I want to dance Daddy.” Charlie said confidently with a nod of his head.
“Do you now?” Greg asked amused looking at Nick over his shoulder, who stood with a scowl on his face. Charlie nodded with a smile and Greg nodded as well, “Well I think we may be able to arrange something.” He smiled and Charlie giggled.
“Okay I think it’s time we get these guys to bed. Thanks again mom, we’ll call you later.” Nick said shortly giving Christine a kiss on the cheek before directing Aidan up the stairs and following him up with Angelica.
Greg looked oddly up the stairs after him, unaware as to what had changed the older man’s demeanor. He turned to his mother who also looked quite confused at the short goodbye from Nick and shrugged, “I’ll…talk to him. Thanks again mom. Tell Dad to call me when he gets a chance.” He said warmly hugging his mother to him.
“Bye darling. Bye Charlie.” Christine said sweetly waving as she walked out of the door. Greg stood in the open doorway with Charlie and they both waved until Christine’s car vanished around the corner.
Greg closed the door and looked at Charlie who he could just TELL wasn’t going to be falling asleep anytime soon, “Do you want some warm milk Charlie?” He tried and Charlie shook his head, “A story?” Again Charlie shook his head, “If I put you to bed will you sleep?” Charlie seemed to think about that answer and then decided to go with a shrug. Greg laughed and carried the toddler up the stairs.
-- -- --
Greg walked into the master bedroom twenty minutes later to find Nick changing the sheets on their bed. Nick didn’t look up or acknowledge Greg’s presence so Greg thought it best to just go to his side of the bed and start helping put the bed together, “Charlie’s finally asleep.” He tried as he smoothed the sheet over the corners of the mattress.
Nick nodded but didn’t answer or look up, “Did Angelica wake up while you were putting her to bed?” Greg tried again and got a nod from Nick but again no verbal response, “Okay what is it?” Greg asked, annoyed, putting down the pillow case he had been getting ready to put on his pillow.
“What’s what?” Nick asked calmly continuing to put the pillow cases on his own pillows.
“Why are you all of a sudden acting like we’ve had a fight. We had a really good night and then the kids get home and all of a sudden you’re a cave man. What’s your problem?”
Nick sighed and threw the newly cased pillow on the bed and looked at Greg, “Why did you have to tell Charlie he could go into dancing?”
Greg furrowed his eyebrows, “THAT’S what this is all about? What’s the big deal about dancing? Are you worried he might actually turn out to be a better dancer then you?” He cracked.
Nick sighed, “Is it not bad enough that he has gay parents, but we’re going to put him into dance as well?”
“Woah.” Greg said taken a back, “When did you start caring what other people thought of us? I thought you got over that. You’ve made such big strides over the last 11 years.”
“Because this isn’t just about us!” Nick exclaimed, “I can get over people looking down on us for loving each other and thinking that us being together is wrong, but the SECOND I hear people categorize MY son as gay, just because he has gay parents and dances I’ll lose it.”
“You’re saying that you would be upset if one of our children turned out to be gay?” Greg asked disgusted, “How hypocritical of you!” He exclaimed.
“That’s not what I’m saying! I don’t care HOW our children turn out as long as they’re happy and they aren’t hurting anybody. They could be gay, straight, bi, tri, multiply, ANYTHING and I wouldn’t care. But if we let Charlie do this they’ll be stereotyping him before he even gets a chance to choose or find out what he wants out of his life.” Greg’s eyes softened as he realized and understood Nick’s stance on the issue, “I would just die to see him get hurt.” Nick whispered, the fight also gone from him.
Greg sighed, “I know you would. I know. But we already know that all our kids are going to get flack for just having gay parents to begin with. To keep Charlie out of something he wants to do is just saying that we’re afraid of the flack, afraid of the treatment they might get. We’re stronger then that, HE’S stronger then that.” Greg paused, “I don’t know. I think we just have to stand up to it or else the fear of ridicule will negatively shape who Charlie’ll become just as much as the actually ridicule would.”
Nick looked down at the half made bed and Greg could see a slow smirk spread across his lips, “How come every time I’m mad at you, you say something all smart and all knowing and make me love you even more?”
Greg chuckled throwing his pillow playfully at Nick who caught it with a laugh, “Because I’m just that good.” Greg smirked.
-- -- --
“Come on Jellie, what do you say we make a batch of Christmas cookies now so your brothers have something to eat after school while we make the rest of the cookies for the party?” Greg asked two days later as he carried Angelica out of her room from her nap.
“Yeah.” Angelica said with a nod of her head and Greg laughed.
“Cookies it is.” He said, opening the fridge and pulling out the dough. Walking to the kitchen stereo and turning on the CD inside. The soft chords of ‘O Holy Night’ filed the room and Greg smiled at Angelica, “One of my favourites!” He said excitedly holding the baby close and swaying back and forth.
Nick heard the stereo turn on from his position in his office and smile at the song. He pushed himself away from the desk and got up; intent on joining Greg in the kitchen. As he reached the doorway however he stopped in his tracks at the sight in front of him.
The stood Greg swaying softly back and forth to the song, singing softly in Angelica’s ear as she snuggled as close to him as she could get. It was almost a serene picture; little things such as the softening cookie dough in Greg’s hand and Angelica’s hand loosely yet securely holding onto Greg’s shirt catching Nick’s eye. Suddenly he thought better of interrupting the pair; deciding instead to creep away back to his office, leaving his husband and daughter to their moment.
-- -- --
“Okay so you have to tell us the story again.” Sara smiled sitting on the couch the next day drinking eggnog, the party in full swing.
“What story?” Greg asked confused taking a seat on the arm of the couch next to where Nick sat.
“Of how you got engaged/married/committed or however this whole thing came about behind our backs.” Warrick supplied sitting across the living room, and suddenly the entire party was turned towards Nick and Greg.
Nick looked unnerved at the 25 sets of eyes currently on him and Greg and cleared his throat, “Well ummm,” He started before clearing his throat again.
“Nick surprised me with a trip to
“To 11 years and many more to come.” Grissom said simply holding up his glass. The entire room held up their glasses and repeated the sentiment and taking a drink, completing the toast.
-- -- --
“I wonder if we can go through one party without half the staff of the Las Vegas Crime lab getting trashed.” Greg cracked as he felt Nick’s arms encircle his waist from behind; he’d been standing watching Archie giggle nonstop over Hodges’ attempt talk ‘shop’ while under the influence.
Nick let out a breathy chuckle and they stood for a moment just watching their guests interact, “Make a baby with me.” Nick blurted suddenly.
Greg laughed, “Baby we’ve been over this; I need to be facing the other way and one of us needs to be a woman for that to happen.”
Nick didn’t laugh, “You know what I mean.”
Greg stopped laughing, “What?” He asked now suddenly not so certain Nick was joking.
“I saw you with Angelica the other day. I see you all the time with our kids. You’re the best father I think I’ve ever seen and it’s made me realize that I want to have another baby with you.” Nick whispered.
“Nick you’re drunk.” Greg said however even though Nick had been drinking Greg knew that he wasn’t drunk.
“I’m not as drunk as you may think.” Nick said softly.
“You’re serious aren’t you?” Greg asked dumbfounded.
“Completely and utterly.” Nick nodded against Greg’s neck.
“But..How?” Greg asked for lack of anything better.
“I already talked to Leighanne. She said it would be the perfect time for her and that she always figured we’d come to her one more time anyway even if we didn’t know it at the time.”
“Holy crap.” Greg whispered in shock.
“So is that a yes?” Nick asked hopefully.
Greg turned in Nick’s arms with a smile and wrapped his own arms around Nick’s neck, “Of course it is.” He grinned leaning in to kiss Nick sweetly on the lips.
