A very short little "morning after" bunny that bit me last night. Since it was still with me this morning, I wrote it down. And this is just because I like my Greg slightly evil...
The morning after the New Year's party, Nick woke to find that Greg had crept away while he slept. Mentally kicking himself for the previous night's drunken stupidity, he dragged himself out of bed and got ready for work.
His hopes rose briefly when he saw Greg, leaning against the wall outside the Crime Lab, holding two cups of coffee, but his stomach sank with Greg's first words.
"Nick," he said. "I think it would be better if we just tried to forget about what happened last night."
"I'm sorry, Greg," Nick said desolately. "I was just so drunk; I really don't know how it happened."
"We were both drunk," Greg said, looking miserable. "But looking back, I'm ashamed of myself. I just feel…dirty. Not so much that I did it, but that I liked it at the time."
Nick felt like a complete ass. "Damn, man, I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do?"
"No, this is just something I'm going to have to work through on my own," he said, shaking his head and shuddering slightly. "I got drunk, and listened to country music, Nick, and that's something I have to live with for the rest of my life." He pressed the second cup of coffee into Nick's hand and leaned in close to whisper, "So when you come by my place for dinner tonight, I'm picking the music."
