Chapter 1
“Hey Greggo! There’s someone here to see you.” Greg turned, coffee in hand, to see Nick standing in the doorway to the break room causing his heart to beat a little bit faster. Greg’s heart always did that when Nick was around, but he never allowed himself to think of why that was.
“Who is it?” Greg asked, curious. No one ever came to see him, especially at work.
“He says he’s your brother, Neil. I didn’t know you have a brother. How come you never…”
“I don’t have a brother” Greg cut him off with a sharp tone in his voice that Nick had never heard there before. It worried him. He’d never seen Greg react like that to anything before.
“Hey man, you okay?” Nick asked in a low voice, his accent coming through more than usual.
Greg suppressed a shiver and nodded, “I’m fine, where is he?”
“By the front desk,” Nick replied, obviously worried as Greg brushed passed him and out of the break room.
“What are you doing here?” Greg asked as he approached the front desk, trying to keep his voice even. On the inside Greg was scared and angry, a way he hadn’t felt in a long, long time, feelings he didn’t miss. Oh my god, what the fuck is Neil doing here? Okay, okay, don’t panic, play it cool and get him the hell out of here, the sooner the better. Greg thought to himself.
“Why whatever do you mean, little brother?” Neil snarled at him, his voice cold. “I’ve been looking for you for five years now. Don’t you want to know what happened after you left? Don’t you want to know what you did to our family? No, of course you don’t you selfish little faggot.” At the last word, people looked up and stared. Greg could feel the eyes of everyone around burning into him. His face began to turn red, though with anger or embarrassment, Greg wasn’t really sure, both he supposed.
Greg stepped up to his brother, looked him directly in the eye and whispered, “This isn’t the time or place for this Neil. If you’ve got a problem with me, then it can wait until I’m done work.” Greg just barely managed to contain the anger that was welling up inside him.
“Fine,” Neil said mockingly, beginning to shout “I’ll just wait here for you and tell everyone that comes along what a selfish little faggot you are, how’s that little bro?”
“What’s going on here?” Grissom’s voice cut through Neil’s rant. “Greg, is everything okay here?”
It took a second for Greg to respond, but he finally nodded, and walked away. He vaguely heard Grissom kicking his brother out of the building as he headed down the hallway, entered the first empty room he could find and screamed.
