"Redemption"

Greg slept for 48 hours straight. Nick stayed close, keeping the condo quiet and dark, and slipping under the covers each night to sleep with his arms wrapped gently around his friend. Nick found himself spending longer and longer just looking at him, and wondering how he was ever going to get used to not having him in his bed. He'd lived alone for a while and was not averse to bachelor living, but lately he'd been finding it harder to imagine a home without Greg in it.

On the morning of the third day, Greg woke up.
"Hey, sleeping beauty," Nick smiled.
"Hey," Greg mumbled, groggily. "What time is it?"
"More like 'what day is it?' " said Nick, amused.
"What do you mean?" asked Greg, propping himself up on one elbow.
"You went to sleep on Tuesday night. It's now Friday morning."
Greg raised his eyebrows. "Wow. I know I was tired but.... wow."
"Want some coffee?" said Nick, grinning.
"Yeah, man, that would probably be a good idea. As long as it's better than that shit they serve at work."

Nick brought coffee back to bed, and watched Greg as he stretched like a cat.
"God! I feel amazing," said Greg, yawning. Nick slipped in next to him. He could stay in bed with Greg for a whole week and not have any complaints.
Nick regarded Greg with a smile as he sipped his coffee. The morning sun filtering through the blinds lit up the gold lights in his hair, and dappled across his finely drawn features. Greg shot a sideways glance at Nick.
"What?"
Nick grinned and shook his head. "Nothing."
You're just so beautiful.

Greg set his cup down and turned to Nick. His face was serious. "Nick... you saved my life. I owe you so much."
Nick frowned. "You owe me nothing. Not a goddamn thing, G. I don't want to hear that kind of talk from you."
Greg sighed. "You took a bullet for me, Nick - that's not nothing! You could have died."
"That's the height of bullshit, Greg," said Nick with a snort. "First of all, I wasn't in any real danger - I was wearing a vest and you weren't. Second of all, your father was a lousy shot. And third of all..."
Nick hesitated and looked at his hands.
"Third of all....?" Greg asked.
"Third of all," Nick said quietly, "I'd die for you anytime."
Greg drew his knees up and put his head in his hands. He raked his hands through his hair absentmindedly.
"Nick..."
"What's on your mind, G?" Nick asked. "You have nothing to be afraid of anymore. This is the first day of the rest of your life, as the saying goes. I know it's a cliche, but in your case, it's the literal truth. You can put this all behind you now and move on."
Greg looked at Nick. "Can I though? Nick, there's a part of him in me. There must be, he was my father after all! We share the same DNA. And..." Greg looked away. "...and I feel it in me. The darkness."

Nick put down his cup. "Greg, look at me."
Greg obeyed meekly, his dark eyes sparkling in the dappled morning light.
"Now listen. Of course you have darkness in you. So do I. Every human being on this planet is made up of darkness and light. It's how we balance the two, that makes us who we are. You can choose to let the darkness win, or you can choose the light. And when the light tips the scale, that's what makes a good man."
Greg rubbed his chin and thought for a moment, then gave a crooked smile. "How the fuck did you get so wise, Stokes?"
Nick grinned. "I'm older than you, kiddo. Now, you have a choice to make. I see the darkness in you, Greg, but I also see the light. What do you say, buddy?"
Greg smirked. "Hmmm, let me think..." Nick arched an eyebrow in mock dismay.
"Yeah, I think I'll choose the light," Greg continued. "They're better shots."
Nick rolled his eyes. "You're a holy terror, Sanders. But you're also a good man."

It took another two hours in bed for Greg to show Nick just how good a man he could be. Starting with soft kisses on the nape of his neck, working down over his muscular shoulders, Greg laid himself over Nick's back like a cloak, nuzzling his neck, laying his arms on Nick's outstretched arms and linking their fingers together.

"Mmmmm, you smell so good," Greg murmured as he nibbled Nick's earlobe. As he rubbed himself slowly against Nick's buttocks, Nick could feel how much he wanted him; and Nick's own erection grew in response.

"God, you feel amazing," whispered Greg. "You have such an incredible body, Nick..."
Nick sighed wordlessly. If he'd died and gone to heaven, he couldn't be more happy. "I love you so much G," he mumbled into the pillow.
"I know," Greg purred. Slowly, he moved down to Nick's lower back and started to plant kisses there, and on Nick's perfect, muscular butt cheeks. Gradually, he worked his way between them, parting them with his hands and beginning to gently kiss and then lick Nick's rim. Nick growled low and spread his legs, as Greg inserted his tongue, licking all around as Nick squirmed and moaned underneath him. Greg put in first one finger, then two, all the while still ministering to Nick with his inquisitive tongue. He put in three fingers, then four as Nick writhed beneath him.
"Ohhh god Greg...god I want you...fuck me G, please..."
But Greg was in a teasing mood. "Oh no, not yet...tell me how much you want me, Nicky...."
Nick arched his lower back and groaned. "Oh god G....you know that...I want you more than anything...I want you more than my own life Greg..."
Greg smiled secretly. "Ask me, Nicky.... ask for what you want, I want to hear you ask me."
Nick's heart was thumping wildly. He couldn't think. He was breathless, panting like an animal. His erection pulsed with want.
"I...want you...in me. Oh god Greg, I want you to fuck me! Please G, I need you, please..."
Greg shivered to himself. "That's what I wanted to hear...I need you too, Nicky..."
I need you now. I need you forever.

Slowly, Greg teased Nick's rim with the head of his cock, beginning to push in and then withdrawing, until Nick was practically incoherent with want. Finally, Greg drove deep inside him, causing Nick to howl out loud with sheer pleasure. Nick bucked against him and clung to the headboard, as Greg pounded him deep and hard, over and over again. All that sleep had given Greg renewed vigor, and Nick held on to the headboard and cried out as Greg fucked him harder and longer than he'd ever been fucked before. And when they finally came together, their moans of ecstasy could be heard in Texas.

------

After a well-deserved shower and breakfast, Nick took Greg out for some long overdue fresh air. The Nevada morning was clear and sunny as usual, with a heat haze shimmering over the distant hills. The desert road stretched away like a thin grey ribbon, until it merged with the distant horizon. Nick slammed the brakes on suddenly and pulled the Jeep off the road in a cloud of brown dust.

“Where's the fire, dude?” Greg asked.

“I just wanted to be alone with you - truly alone, no eavesdroppers, no cellphones, no interruptions, no distractions...” Nick trailed off, and started to examine his fingernails.

“Come on, let's go for a walk,” he said abruptly, jumping out of the Jeep. “Will you walk with me, G?”

Greg looked confused. “I'll do anything with you, Nick, you ought to know that by now?”

Greg put his hand in Nick's, almost automatically. Nick looked sideways at him. “Good job we're not walking down the Strip.”

Greg made a face. “I don't care. Who cares what anyone thinks?”

Nick stopped, turned and looked at Greg. “That's exactly my point, G. I used to care, but since - since you, I just don't anymore. Do you?”

“No.” Greg gazed at Nick, an unasked question in his eyes.

“Where is home to you, Greg?” Nick stared at his feet. Somewhere in the patches of scrub bush dotted over the Nevada desert, small animals scrabbled, and rattlers slept under flat rocks. The relentless sun beat down.

“Home....?” Greg frowned, thought for a moment, then answered quietly. “Home is where you are, Nick.”

“Greg, you're home to me too - I just - I can't imagine my life without you.” Nick stared up at the sky, looking for answers in the clear endless blue. Never leave me.

Greg stared at him. “What are you trying to say, Nick?” he asked, in a shy voice.

Nick closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. Here goes nothing.

“Stay with me, G. What I mean is - move in with me. Let's make a home together. I know you don't like the condo, but we can always figure something out about that, it's not that big of a deal to me, and if you wanted to, we could look for a place together, a place that was ours, yours and mine, somewhere completely new...” Nick was suddenly aware that he was babbling.

Greg grinned and put a hand on his arm. “Nick, your place isn't that bad. It just needs to be funked-up a bit, you know - it needs to be Gregfied.” Greg shot Nick a shy smile. “So uh, you gonna ask me properly, or what?”

“What?!” Nick asked, momentarily taken aback.

“Nicky,” said Greg with a wicked grin, “Aren't you supposed to get on your knees or something? I mean, I've seen it in the movies, and I know you're a closet 'Gone With The Wind' fan...”

Nick arched an eyebrow. “You really know how to put a man on the spot, Sanders!”

“Well,” said Greg loftily, “Either you're serious, or you're not.” He leaned on the Jeep, tapping his foot impatiently.

“Geez! Alright,” Nick said, rolling his eyes. He got onto one knee at Greg's feet and took his hand. Greg smirked down at him, his eyes sparkling with mischief, but Nick continued undeterred.

“Come and live with me, man. Be my friend, and my lover. What do you say?”

Nick looked up at Greg. His heart thumped in his chest and for some reason he couldn’t breathe.

“Of course, dude.” Greg grinned. “Um…”

“What, man?” Nick’s breath returned, all in a rush.

“While you’re down there…” Greg raised an eyebrow.

“You little brat…!” Nick struggled to his feet as Greg squealed and ran for the Jeep.

“Sanders, I swear to God, you are the most incorrigible, insufferable…”

“Don’t forget irresistible,” Greg said, archly.

“Man, and I just asked you to come and live with me?!”

“You know you love it.”

“I know I love you.”

“Nicky?”

“Yeah, G?”

“Dude, have you ever done it in the desert?”

Aww, that was adorable :) I was expecting something Lion-Kingey at the end where Greg throws his arms around Nick and they go rolling down a hill and they end up on top of each other lol. Honestly, I need to get out more. I love the ending too. Not too cheesy and not sad. Perfect! Of course, there's nothing wrong with cheesy endings lol. I'm a sucker for them to tell you the truth.

P.S May I use the speech your wrote about darkness and light in my Scrooge essay for English, please? As soon as I read it, it reminded me of it, but I thought I'd get your permission before incorporating it into my essay.

This was really nice. I'm glad you finished the story before I went home for Christmas. I have no internet access there and I was hoping you'd post before I leave. Thanks!

Very nice story and lovely fairytale ending. I'm a sucker for a happy ending and all who take the Patented Helena Happy Ending Clause agree.

Yeah I figure we RL for that. Altho I have to say, more angst has crept into my fics than used to be there. But hey, we can give them angst as long as we resolve it for them.

Ah, a Greg in my christmas stocking, if only. *sigh* but thanks for the offer. :-D
