As some of you already know I have started working.
So fics from me will come at slower rate in the future, but they will still come.
I have some thoughts on the last few days activities in this fandom:
We are presumably all here because we like Nick and Greg.
We should also know that in fanfiction all genre's are allowed.
Fanfiction is fiction based on characters already created, but for series like CSI where even the script-writers have problems remembering just what this character is supposed to be like, we actually have a lot of room to move in.
I know that others see the characters different from me, simply because they don't come from the same culture as me. I respect that and are actually curious to see how other people see them.
I genuinely believe that there is room for everybody here, who cares enough to write.

Debate?

Date: 2005-11-17 03:27 am (UTC)She said: Personally, I think every now and then it does a reader good to think outside the box on how they usually see the character. That doesn't mean it's OOC, it just means it's a new spin on things you maybe never considered. A preference of mine is that Greg never did drugs, and as much as I like and respect Geekwriter, not even One Good Man could convince me otherwise. I still think the story was amazing and beautiful and I love her for writing it, but at the end of the day, I still think of Greg as never using, and that will probably always be the way I write him. It's not a slam on her characterization, if anything it's a slam on my imagination that I just can't embrace the new perspective.
And I said: And you totally have some good points about authors writing things one might not agree with. I mean, like, that smoking challenge *really, really* bothered me. I don't think they'd be dumb enough to do that (though you can tell by Eric and George's voices that they as actors wouldn't feel the same). But I didn't tell people that since there was no evidence of it and that they're too smart to do it, that there's NO WAY they could do it. Same with people making Nick extremely conservative and republican and/or religious. I don't think he's that at all. I think he's too smart for that. I don't think he's bigoted, and I don't think he has any reason to believe there are any gods--he's a scientist and he's seen too much of a reality to embrace the supernatural. But, am I going to reply to a story and say that since I see no evidence for that, that it's impossible and against canon and out of character because *I* say Nick wouldn't act like that? No, in the author's story, that's how he is. That's that person's interpretation of the characters, not mine. I write so that I can create my own. And I know not everyone will agree--I don't expect them to. My writing is so different that I know not everyone will love it. But I write to express my own desires and ideals regarding the two, and for the people who will get it and will appreciate it. Yeah, it sucks that some people won't, but so long as I have some people who do 'get it', then that's okay.
And, that's not to mention how I feel about bottoming!Nick. I'm not rude enough to complain about that in response to people's stories, but I do feel as though--as a whole--people need to provide much, much more justification as to why he would do it. Anal sex is a huge trust issue, and *that* can stem from his abuse. But, as I said, I'm not gonna go reaming every author who bottoms Nick. It's their perception of it. If I don't agree, then I'll leave it alone. It's only how *I* see things, and my opinion is definitely NOT the ultimate take. There's no point in making people feel like shit by going on and on about it. I just don't care for those types of stories, some people do, and that's that.

Amen to that.

Date: 2005-11-17 06:06 am (UTC)(I know I like to have a bottom!Nick, because I think he'd rather take the pain than give it. Besides when he gets to have sex in my stories it has taken them long enough to get there.)
There will always be stories that we don't agree with. But I do not find it necessarry to tear said stories apart. I will more often reread them to understand them better.

Date: 2005-11-17 02:21 pm (UTC)I'm actually quite annoyed it has turned into such a huge issue. Someone wrote something you didn't like. Tough shit. A lot of people write things I don't like.
So yeah, she asked for constructive comments. Just give them and leave it at that. And if you don't think you can give it without turning bitchy, just leave it.
And I'm going to shut up now, cause the last thing I want is to get dragged into this.
