Author's Notes: This was originally supposed to be a Greg piece. But it ran away with me and suddenly I found myself writing this Thing, (and yes, it deserves the capital) that not only has Greg, but also six OCs that I have developed enough for them to be a little bit more than generic. The first little bit may be a little hard to follow in regards to who is the narrator, but it smoothes out into third person and becomes easier to follow. And in regards to Greg’s birthday, I pulled it off a site and have no idea if it’s at all accurate, but I’m using it for the flow of the story. If there's any glaring problems, grammatical mistakes, spelling errors, ect, please let me know.

It had been all over the news. Four men had hit a small, private record store, Rick’s Records. This in itself would not have been a strange occurrence had they stolen any merchandise, or the money in the vault in the back or the cashiers.

But they hadn’t taken any money or merchandise, which is what made this scene so different to most heists.

They had taken the customers and the store employees.

Victim no. 01: Rick Faulkner
DOB: March 17, 1963
Age: 42
Physical Description: approx. 5’11”, blonde hair, balding slightly, brown eyes, slightly overweight.

Everything happened so fast. One moment, I was watching the security cameras and wondering when I was going to come down on the girl in the rock records aisle and charge her with shoplifting, the next the cameras were covered by black and I was being pulled out to the front of the store by a man in a black mask carrying a gun. Now, there was no way in hell I was going to argue with the damn shotgun, so I let the guy lead me out to where the customers and my employees—Skyler and Mark were working that day—were being held and they told us to get in a single file line. Which seemed stupid, until one of the guys—there were four of them—told us that we were to look into the camcorder they had and state our names.

The shuffle into the line was relatively quick. Everyone was in a some degree of shock, and no one wanted to piss of the big guys with the guns. One woman was in hysterics, clutching onto who I assumed was her daughter (even though she was well over three inches taller than the older woman) who looked equally frightened. Her name was Alice, and the girls name was Marliee.

Next in line was the little shoplifter I was planning on busting. She had seemed resigned to the fact that she was being taken as a hostage and I couldn’t help but wonder what her life was like, that made her accept that yes, she might die . She gave the name Marsha Tobin to the camera.

Next up was Skyler and Mark. They both said their first and last names to the camera, and I noticed a terrified tremor in Mark’s voice. He was nearly pissing himself. I knew he was a mama’s boy, bit of a sissy, but I didn’t know how much of one until that moment.

Next up was me. I gave my name as calmly as I could and then shuffled off to the side, where they were keeping everyone who had gone through the line. The next guy up seemed terribly calm, more-so than I could have claimed to be at that moment and hell, he even managed to quirk a tiny little smile as he looked in the camera.

“Hey guys,” he started with, and I couldn’t help but start. What the hell was he doing, trying to kill us all?!

“Keep to just your name kid,” the guy holding camera said gruffly. The guy kinda managed to laugh at that.

“Greg Sanders,” he said in reply to Camera-Man and something about his easy-going attitude made me want to keep an eye on him.
