First posted fic. w00t. Now, I'm not that proud of it, but it was one of those things that had to be written, and then I felt like I should post it just because. XD So here we go.

Summary: Like all good Texans, his parents were voting Republican. But Nick has to choose. For himself. It shouldn't be such a milestone, but it is. He felt guilty, because if he voted one way he would betray Greg, the other, his parents.

Implied Greg/Nick.

Rating: Erm, PG I guess, just for the whole "gay" issue.

"G? Do you mind if we make a pitstop before going back to the lab?" Nick drummed his fingers nervously on the steering wheel, distracted.

"Sure," Greg said, eyebrow raised.

They rode in silence, well other then the country twang Nick insisted on playing. Greg looked toward the rather unremarkable building they had stopped at, which had a steady stream of people going in and out. "Wha--?" Greg didn't finish his question because logic had kicked in and he had realized that today was November 2nd, and this was a voting station. Nick got out of the car with an apologetic look on his face.

Nick stared at the ballot, torn. His hand started to shake and he wondered why he was putting himself through this. Somehow, he felt a deep obligation, as if it truly mattered, which way he voted. His parents voted Republican, like all good Texans. He honestly didn't know what he was going to do. You see, if he voted one way, he would condemn his relationship. He was very happy currently, happier then he had been in awhile, with Greg. But Texan values run deep, and sometimes he could hear his dad's voice, telling him how being gay was wrong and disgusting. It had taken years for the homophobia to rub off.

Nick could vote the other way, and maybe he might be able to go out with Greg and not feel ashamed or worried about what might happen. Sighing, he made his choice, and he knew he couldn't take it back.

"How did it go Nick?" Greg asked jokingly as Nick got into the car. Nick looked at Greg and lied. Lied flat out.

"Great."



IMPORTANT: I am canadian, and not of age to vote. I do not know how the voting system works, and do not know John Kerry/George W. Bush's platforms, and their stand on gay marriage. However, for the purpose of this fic, one person is completely opposed, and one is for.

Kerry's for gay marriages, and Bush is against them. Also, not all Texans are Republicans.

Mmmmm..still waiting to figure out who got Ohio's 20 votes.....evil people.can't count fast enough (no offense to anyone from Ohio here) they've been counting for a while.

That's what I thought. And yes, I know, not all Texans are Republicans, but you have to go with the whole idea that his dad and mom are very homophobic with their jobs in the law, Texas has been a Republican state in recent election if what my parents telling me is true, and Bush is against gay marriages, so it fits the whole idea. XD

Actually, neither candidate was for gay marriage. Kerry was opposed to amending the _US_ Constitution to prevent them, preferring to let the states make their own decision. At most, he was for creating a "civil union" status, but even then, not at a national level...
