Five Senses III: Untitled

The apartment was quiet, too quiet.

Greg was used to hearing Nick’s voice, but there was no hint of the soft Texas drawl in the empty rooms. He sat on his couch with his head in his hands, mourning his decision to leave Nick’s. It had been, what, four days since he had walked out? Stupid, stupid Greg, he thought to himself.

Suddenly, the phone rang, breaking the silence.

Greg knew it would be Nick. He’d called three times since Greg walked out. He didn’t pick up. What would he say? How could Nick take him back after those horrible things he said, things that weren’t even true?

The ringing stopped and the machine picked up. Nick’s voice filled the room.

“Greg, man, I know you’re there. We need to talk. Please pick up? I…I miss you. I can’t stand being without you. I love you, Greg.” Click.

Greg reached over and played the message again, then a third time. He was surprised to feel tears running down his cheeks.

With trembling hands, Greg picked up the phone and dialed the number he knew so well. “Hey…” he said when Nick answered on the first ring.

“Hi.” Nick sounded surprised to hear Greg’s voice.

A few seconds of silence followed, then both spoke at the same time.

“Nick, I-”

“Greg, it’s okay. We both said things we shouldn’t have.”

“I can’t believe what I said to you, Nick. That’s all I’ve been thinking about. There isn’t another man. The only man I want to be with is you. Would you be willing to forgive me?”

“God, Greg…of course. I know you weren’t telling the truth when you said you’d…rather be fucking someone else…but it still hurt.”

Greg sniffled, wiped a tear away with the back of his hand. “I know, I know, it just…popped out. I’m so sorry; you gotta know I didn’t mean it.”

“And it’s been hell without you here. I can’t stand it with you gone. Come over, let’s fix this.”

“Yeah. Yeah, definitely. I’ll be over soon.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too,” Greg replied as he hung up. He smiled for the first time all week, gathered up what needed to go back to Nick’s, and walked out the door.

A/N: This is OOC for me but I didn't like this. At all. I think it's badly done...but I did do it in 5 minutes...*shrug*

I don't think think it's OOC Jeff. We all say things in the heat of the moment we dont' mean, trust me. And I could see them both feeling responsible and guilty over it. Sometimes all it takes is the first step. So don't knock yourself bud.

Hmm, good thing you called yourself on the OOC-ness. I agree. It was good, but not exactly IC.

Who's to say what's really IC or OCC with these guys though, I mean, we find out new stuff about them all the time. I really liked the last fic, Unmistakable, and this one was a very welcome follow -up, at least we know that they are going to try and work things out, not just break up over one argument. Like Shacky said, don't knock yourself, sometimes a quickly written fic holds the most honesty because you don't have time to overthink it.
