*Mod Post* Announcement
May. 15th, 2008 08:16 pmFurther to
beelikej’s essay about making the community more active, and the comments about feedback and critique that followed, the mods would like to take this opportunity to clarify where this community stands on constructive criticism.
When a fic (or piece of fan art etc) is posted into the community, it is assumed that the author is seeking feedback on their work. The default setting for this community is that respectful constructive criticism is allowed and welcomed. We do employ a ‘strictly no flaming’ policy on all posts.
However, we do understand that for some authors posting their work can be daunting, for example for a new author or someone returning to writing after a hiatus. If an author so chooses, they can request ‘positive feedback only’ by including that request in their header. By the same note, if an author is actively seeking constructive criticism in an effort to improve their writing, they can also use their header to request this. It’s down to each author’s personal preference.
In an effort to keep this community alive and thriving, we’re encouraging readers (and lurkers!) to take a moment to leave a comment after reading a fic, even if it’s only a brief word to say you enjoyed it. To an author, even the gesture of a smile is appreciated.
Thanks for reading =)
