In the spirit of the all-community thingie we have here, here's a nice question for all of you (and a little something extra for the writers).

For a multi-fandom writer/follower/wanker/shipper like me, we tend to become a bit choosy with our preferred pairings/OTP/OT3/horbag-alert-pairing. Nick/Greg was one of my earliest choices, dating back to when Greg got blown through the window because hey, let's face it, nothing says hot than lying on the floor, bleeding in pain. No wait, don't reply to that. That was my sadistic side speaking.

After sifting through a lot of fandoms and the pairings which can be done from them, stories/relationships/character-chemistry begins to blur and look the same. Someone is the dom. Someone is the sub. Someone got hurt. Someone needs comfort. Someone is fucked up. Someone wants to save him. Choose your poison.

You see, from a multi-fandom writer/follower/wanker/shipper like me, after a bit of time, pairings begin to look the same.

So the question is, after so much nonsense blathering (and wow, I can't believe you read through that), what makes Nick and Greg (or Nick/Greg) different from the other pairings in any given fandom? What makes Nick/Greg Nick/Greg? What is that quintessential thing that brings the differentiating line from blurry to crisp and clear?

Yeah, go figure.

I have my own answer to this question but I just want the opinion of others.

Also, if you've ever written a fic or own a Nick/Greg series/universe/whatever, give a thing or two that characterizes your Nick and your Greg.

Example (for my Nick and Greg anyway):

1. My Greg once found a lost puppy near a dumpster. It was eating potato peelings which was why Greg named it Tatoes (short for potatoes). It had a collar but Greg debated for two days whether he should accidentally "blow up" the collar and keep the puppy. It broke his heart when he had to give it back.

2. When he has a nightmare and he wakes up (and if Greg isn't woken up by it), Nick calms himself by watching Greg sleep. Sometimes, he counts Greg's eyelashes. So far, he's at twenty-five.

I'm searching for a fic I read a few months ago--

Plot: Nick has some softball(?) friends who do not like Greg, do not like the fact that he's gay. All in all, they are mean and threatening to Greg and it all blows up at a party Nick has at his house. Warrick's in it as well.
