To say that Nick was nervous was an understatement. It had been a very long time since he had felt like this. Tonight was one of the most important nights of his life, and he sincerely hoped that he wouldn't mess it up. Asking Greg to spend the rest of his life with him was one of the most important things he had ever done. The most important thing in his life was telling Greg how he felt about him, and he had managed to do that without a problem, so he was hoping that tonight would go smoothly.
He arrived on time to pick Greg up, and dinner went very well. Nick was starting to relax and enjoy himself. Greg had wanted to go dancing so they went to one of Greg's favorite clubs for a while. To Nick's surprise, he had enjoyed himself. So much so that Greg was able to talk him into dancing to some of the fast songs. Greg really got a kick out of watching Nick try to keep up so it made looking like a nut worthwhile.
It was still kinda early when they left the club, and Nick knew that the time had come to talk to Greg. He decided to take Greg to a small lake just outside of town where he fished at sometimes on his day off. Greg was curious about where they were and Nick explained that the property belonged to one of Warrick's cousins, and that Nick was told that he was welcomed to the pond when he wanted to go fishing.
As they sat on the tailgate of Nick's truck, Greg commented on the stars and how many there were. Nick told him that the night sky reminded him of Texas, and that sometimes he would gaze at the stars and think of home. Nick decided it was time, and he turned to Greg and told him that he had something he wanted to talk to him about. Greg looked panicked for a moment, and Nick realized that Greg was thinking that he was wanting to break up with him.
“Greg, what I wanted to say was that I don't have a lot, but I know it's mine, and I'm fine with that. I don't follow the “in-crowd”, and I know that I'm probably not like any of the guys you've been around before. I know there's a lot of things I don't know about as far as relationships are concerned, but I know that what I feel for you is the real deal, and I want you in my life, and I want you to know that the boat that I row is big enough for two. What do you say???”
Greg took a deep breath and wiped the tears from his eyes. He looked deeply into Nick's eyes and said,”Nick, as corny as that boat analogy was, I'd be more than happy to spend the rest of my life doing whatever with you. I don't care that you don't follow the “in-crowd”, the “out-crowd”, or whichever crowd. I'm glad that you aren't like ANY guy I've been around. I love you because you are you. If you were like the others, I don't think I'd be interested. As far as the “relationship” thing, we'll learn it together. Nick, I just want to be with you, whatever that entails.”
Nick let out a Texas yell loud enough to wake the dead, and scooped Greg up in his arms. The two men kissed, and Nick reached into his pocket for the ring he had hidden there before he went to pick Greg up. He placed the ring on Greg's finger and said,”Come on, baby, let's go home.....”

I hope you’re planning to write more “slice of life” Nick/Greg.
(And I hope my interpretation of a Texas yell was acceptable. We don’t come across those too often here in NY.)
