Disclaimer: If they were mine, we'd see a lot less clothing on the show.
Nick was half asleep. He didn't even know what he was dreaming about until he became aware that he was stroking himself, urging his cock toward orgasm, faster and faster until finally he came, gasping out a name. As he reached for tissues, he remembered the name he woke up gasping. Greg! Suddenly fully awake, he sat up in bed, thinking oh, dang, what am I doing?
He got out of bed and went to the kitchen for a drink of water. He looked out the window thinking that maybe it was time he did something about all this flirting and touching. Nick realized he was a hands-on kind of guy but he’d never touched anyone at work as much as he touched Greg. The minute he was in the lab his hands were on Greg's shoulder, or his neck, or around him while he leaned over Greg. Okay, thought Nick, today's the day.
When Nick arrived at work, the first thing he did was chicken out. He went out on his first case without even saying hi to Greg. The case was a slam-dunk, seeing as the boyfriend who did it called it in and handed over the murder weapon personally. And the guy confessed, so he had no excuse to swing by Greg's lab. But Grissom always said to be thorough, thought Nick. Maybe I should just run this bloody shirt to Greg in case the guy's lawyer gets cute in court.
Feeling more awkward than he had since high school, Nick walked into Greg's lab but he didn't touch him. Nick just handed over the bagged evidence.
Greg asked, "Are you in a hurry for this? Because I've got three rush cases and then a few more to run before yours."
"Nope," answered Nick, "Only need it for corroboration. Anytime's good."
"Great," Greg replied, peering down his microscope. "Then I'll page you when I’m done?"
"Sure," Nick cleared his throat. "So, um, have you had a break yet?"
"No, but I won't be able to get away for a while. Did you need something else?"
"I, um, thought maybe we could, uh, grab some lunch later?" Nick gulped. "At that all night place right near here?"
"Okay," Greg looked up briefly, "If you're not busy do you mind waiting till I get through all this?" He waved his hand at the stacked cases.
"Sure," Nick was sure he was grinning like a monkey, "Page me when you're ready." At least he wasn't jumping up and down screaming like a monkey.
When Greg eventually paged Nick they left and walked down to the diner together. Greg talked about an interesting piece of evidence he had worked on and how it had been a challenge to figure out how it fit into the case Grissom was building.
The diner was busy and the only booth open was a big circular one. Feeling a little silly Nick slid onto the bench seat at one end while Greg sat at the other end. They studied their menus and ordered.
"So what are you working on?" Greg asked.
"Oh, nothing much. The only case I had so far tonight was easy. The perp called it in and handed the weapon over when we got there, and confessed, nothing too interesting."
"And so why did you bring me evidence?" Greg laughed.
"Well you know how it goes when lawyers get involved," Nick worried that this was going to be only the first of many blushes tonight. Dang that blushing gene, why did he get it and not his sisters? "Grissom always says to be thorough so I thought we'd nail the evidence down just in case something goes wrong."
"You know you just came to see me," Greg smirked. "You just can't stay away from me."
"Hey, guys," Jacqui interrupted. "Anyone else sitting here?"
Saved, thought Nick, because he had no comeback for Greg. He knew in the middle of the night he'd think of something brilliantly clever but why couldn't he ever think of it in the moment? On the other hand he really didn't want Jacqui to join them but couldn't think of a polite way to say scram, lady, can't you see I'm trying to make time here?
Jacqui sat next to Greg who slid down one seat. He just smiled at her and said, "Make yourself at home," and handed her a menu. Jacqui looked up from the menu and noticed Nick's face was kind of flushed and set in a frozen smile. Had she walked in on a date, she wondered? She glanced quickly at Greg but he looked just like he always did. Suddenly Jacqui had an evil thought. She was going to get Greg back for that stupid headdress he made her wear. And Nick for teasing her to death about it. Damn, she thought, had she always been so vengeful? Oh well, she could live with it.
After Jacqui ordered, she said, "Ooops, I just remembered I gotta make a call. Be right back."
Greg smiled at Nick and wondered why Nick looked so uncomfortable. Jacqui returned to the table as their food came.
"Hi guys, mind if we join you?" asked Archie, coming over with Bobby.
Jacqui stood up and said, "Slide in, Arch, I don't want to slide around the booth in a skirt."
Archie obligingly scooted in closer to Greg, closer than absolutely necessary, in Nick's opinion. Bobby sat next to Nick. They got their orders in and started to talk.
Nick glared as he saw Archie lean toward Greg and look into his eyes, putting his hand on Greg's arm. Archie said something so softly that Nick couldn't hear it. Nick felt himself getting flushed again. He noticed Bobby kind of nudging his side and slid further into the booth.
Greg was chatting with Archie and smiling until he looked up and saw Nick's face. Nick was looking like a thundercloud. Greg wondered again, why is he upset? His case sounded easy, none of that kind of stuff that usually gets to him. Suddenly it dawned on Greg that maybe he was on a date. His mouth dropped open and he whipped around to look at Jacqui. Seeing the suppressed laughter in her eyes, he mouthed silently at her, “I am so going to get you for this.” She could barely repress a giggle.
Grissom stopped by the table and said, "Nick, do you have a minute? I wanted to ask you something about this case tonight."
Bobby said, "Have a seat, Grissom, pull up a booth," before sliding closer to Nick.
Grissom said, "Actually, I could use a cup of coffee." He leaned across Bobby and asked Nick a question. Nick could barely keep his mind on the case. What was Archie doing under the table?
And why was Jacqui smirking and giggling? Did she know what was going on? And if so, what was going on? He looked at Greg who was laughing at something Archie said.
"Grissom," came Sara's voice. "I've been looking for you."
"Sit down, Sara; I'll be right with you. Maybe you should grab a bite, we have to run that experiment when we get back and it could take a while. I just need to ask Nick a couple of things."
Sara slid in, so Grissom and Bobby moved down, forcing Nick further into the booth and at this point he couldn't afford to get too much closer to Greg. Nick was afraid that he was looking redder than he ever had before. And he couldn't eat. Greg's eyes were bright and his shoulders shook with laughter. Nick could swear he kicked Archie under the table. Were they playing footsie?
"Shove in," ordered Catherine sitting down, pushing Jacqui, Archie and Greg closer to Nick. "Nick, we have another case; you, me and Warrick. We gotta roll."
Nick was now pressed against Greg at the centre of the booth. This was not how he pictured his first date with Greg. After all the touching and flirting and the first time he's pressed up against Greg he has an audience. And it had to be this audience!
"Got time for a cup of coffee, Cath?" asked Jacqui.
"Not really, I was just looking for Nick. Warrick will be here in a minute with the Tahoe, and then we're outta here, so I hope you're done, Nick."
Nick fumbled with his wallet, and Greg said, "Oh, don't worry, Nick, I'll get it." He batted his eyes mischievously at Nick, knowing if this was a date it wasn't going at all as Nick planned. He brushed his hand casually against Nick's thigh, grinning as Nick jumped a mile. "I'll talk to you later," Greg managed to sound just a bit throaty.
"Nicky, Cath, let's check it out," said Warrick as he came up to the table. Sara, Grissom, and Bobby all stood up and Nick slid out, thanking his lucky stars for his foresight in wearing a long shirt and not tucking it in. "See you guys later," Nick mumbled and fled for the Tahoe, followed by Catherine and Warrick.
Grissom said, "Well, let's get back," and he, Archie, Bobby and Sara headed up to the cash register. Jacqui pulled out some bills and asked Greg, "So how was it?"
"What?" Greg was all innocent but with a tell-tale curve at the corner of his mouth.
"Your date."
"It wasn't a date, Jacqui. And tell me you didn't call Grissom and everyone to come over here and horn in?"
"No," Jacqui laughed, "Only Archie and Bobby. But wasn't it great? It worked out better than I ever could have planned."
"I am so going to make you regret this," Greg grinned.
"Oh I don't think you will, if you don't want me to ask Nick how he enjoyed your date," Jacqui smirked.
"Blackmail!" Greg gasped, mockingly.
"What are friends for?" Jacqui asked as she tucked her hand in his arm and they walked out.
