They fly to Vegas. Jeremy is worried he’s getting sick. Rumors are flying high
about Greg and Nick.

“You ready to go?” I walk into the room and glance at Greg.

“I think we need more clothes” he says, looking for another bag.

“I already packed it” I say. God my whole body hurts. I try and twist to pop my
back.

He turns and looks at me and I smile.

“You planned this didn’t you?” He says walking over to me.

“I thought we all could use a few days of fun” I say and he rests his head on my
chest. I pull him close and kiss his cheek. He takes my hand and pulls away.

“God your tight” he says.

“Just sore from all the work I did on the runs.”

“You know the best thing about flying with Nick is no limit on our bags” he says
as I let his hands go and walk into the restroom. I pick up the extra bags I
already have packed and we head down stairs.

“We’re all set” I say as Nick stands up. He nods and we walk out to his car.

“I got coffee and a pop” He says and unlocks the car. Greg gets in the front as
I toss the bags in the trunk. I get in the back and take the coffee Greg is
holding out for me. I take a long drink and slump back in my set. I let my eyes
close and feel as if I’m about to get a headache.

“Did you sleep ok?” Greg asks. He’s watching me from the rearview mirror.

“Yeah but I’m really sore.” I really should think about hiring someone to finish
the rest of the barn. I’m not as young as I used to be. “Hard work breaking in
new
horses.”

I half listen as Nick and Greg chat on our way there. The car comes to a stop
and I open my eyes when Greg calls out my name.

“Thank god, I really didn’t want to carry you to the plane” Nick says as I get
out. He opens the trunk and the two of us remove all our bags.

“So this is it” Greg says walking over to a small plane. “Why don’t we have one
of those?”

“Cause we know people who have them already” I say. Don’t need a plane added to
my long list of crap to care for and maintain.

“Hey Nick looks like it will be a nice ride to Vegas. Clear all the way there.”
a man says.

Nick nods. “Dexter this is Jeremy and Greg” he says as he walks past him.

Greg shakes his hand and follows Nick. I only nod; my hands are full with our
bags. He smiles and nods back as I walk past him. I put our bags down and find a
seat by the window.

“I’ve got satellite radio in the seats, head sets are in the seat things” Nick
says. “Lots of snacks and stuff to drink”

“Are you okay?” I look up and Greg is in the seat in front of me, facing me. His
chin is resting on the back of the seat.

“I’m fine, just need a power nap” I say. Fuck, am I just sore or am I coming
down
with something? Great timing to be sick the whole time we are in Vegas.

“Want anything”

I shake my head and find the ear sets and plug them in.

“What you don’t wanna hear me talk the whole way?” he says smiling.

“Nope” I place them in my ears and lean back.

He pulls one off and I give him a playful shove. He lets it go and stands up.

“I’m ok really” I say. He looks at me and I push him again harder this time and
he finally walks to the back of the plane. I sit back in my seat and listen to
the
music. Perfect timing indeed, my throat is starting to hurt, or my mind is
playing tricks on me.

“Jeremy” I hear.

“I swear to god, I am not carrying him off the plane”

I slowly open my eyes and pull the headset off.

“We’ve landed” Greg says backing up.

“I slept the whole way?” I say standing up.

“Sure did” Greg says with a worried look. I’d move out of my seat if I could but
he’s got me blocked. He puts his hand on my forehead.

“Are you sure you’re okay? You feel kinda warm.” he asks. Fuck I am getting
sick.

“I’m great. A power nap is just want I needed” I lie.

“Then why aren’t you moving?” He asks.

I put my hand on his shoulder and push him back out of my way.

“Ohh” he says as I pick up our bags.

“Got a ride waiting to take us to the track” Nick says. I nod and we head off
the plane. He leads us to a SUV and someone gets out and opens the trunk for us.
He reaches for my bags.

“I’ve got it” I say and drop them in trunk. Nick hands the man his bags and
walks
to car.

“Hope it doesn’t rain” He says looking up at the sky. “I am so sick of rain.”

“Yeah” I say but I wish it would rain. I don’t want to practice this afternoon
or qualify either. Rather just start by points and work on the car tomorrow. We
get in the car, me in the front and them in the back. We reach the track and get
out.

“He’s taking our bags to the hotel” Nick says.

“Do you need anything?” I ask Greg.

“Yeah just the small black bag” he says. I go to the trunk and remove it and
hang it over my shoulders.

“I can carry that” he says holding out his hand. I smile and pull it off and
give it to him. I look up at the sky again and sigh. The sun is breaking though
so looks like my hopes of rain is not going to happen. Nick walks over to the
driver and says something to him and shakes his hand. He gives him a tip and
joins us. We make our way over to the garage.

“I have been trying to call you all week” Gil says walking over to Nick.

“I’ve been on vacation” He says leaning on his pit box.

Gil looks at us then at Nick. He turns and walks into the trailer.

“Asshole” Nick mumbles and opens a cooler. He gets out a few cans of pop and
tosses one to Greg then to me. “We’ve got an hour before practice; I could use
something to eat. Gonna get Greg a huge hotdog covered in greasy onions, peppers
and
lots of mustard.”

“That is so gross” He says making a face.

“My treat” Nick says.

Greg looks at me. “You go I’ve got something to do” I say.

“Like what?” he asks.

“Take a shit if you really must know” I say. I need to lie down for a bit and
they need some alone time.

“I need new friends” Greg says. He looks at Nick. “I am not eating a nasty
hotdog” he says.

“They’ve got pizza” he says. Greg nods and the two of them walk off.

I walk into the trailer and sit down on the couch. I open the pop Nick gave me
and
take a long drink from it. It burns my throat as it goes down. I look up as the
door opens. It’s Archie. He sits down next to me.

“Make yourself at home.” I say sitting up a bit. Wonder what he’s heard now.

“So what is with the rumours I’ve been hearing?” he asks crossing his arms.

“What rumours?” I knew this would happen. Most of the people in the garage area
think Greg and I are a couple. Not that its any of their business. Still I knew
word would get out about them two hanging out more. Didn’t think it would happen
this fast though.

“Come on man you know what I’m talking about.” He says.

I lean forward and look at him.

“Nick and Greg” he says.

“What about them” I say.

“Aren’t you upset? I mean since you and Greg are together.”

I wish I would have talked to Greg about his. He always keeps his private life
just that and I’m not sure if he’d be upset with me telling Archie we are not
together. Archie has a huge mouth and whatever I tell him will be all over the
garage before we get in our race or practice.

“I think Nick likes him. I hear he showered and shaved before they went out. You
know Nick he doesn’t do that just for anyone.” Archie says.

I lean back and wipe my face. I let out a sigh and look at him. He’s not leaving
until I give him something. Hell he’s probably making something up if I don’t.
Better to get the story straight before it gets out of hand.

“Greg and I are not together, we never have been” I say.

He laughs and looks at me. His smile fades, probably from the look in my face.

“That is not true.”

“I see Greg as my brother” I say and stand up. I remove my driver’s suit and
sit it on the couch.

“But you live together” he says. “I’ve seen you kiss.” He says.

I again sigh “Look Archie, Greg means the world to me but we are not together,
never have been” I repeat. I step out of my shoes and pull off my shirt.

He has this look on his face. I’m sure he doesn’t believe me.

“Think what you want but I’m telling you the truth” I pick up my suit and walk
into the restroom. I put it on and set out. I’m not surprised he’s still sitting
there.

“What?” I say.

“So you two really are just friends?” he says standing up.

“Yeah just friends! So I really don’t wanna hear a bunch of crap about how Greg
is cheating on me, that he broke my heart or anything like that” I say lifting
my racing shoes and putting them on.

He just nods. I’m not sure if he believes me or not. I walk past him and go
outside. I look up at the sky, half filled with dark clouds, half filled with
sunlight.

“Don’t count on it Jeremy, no rain anywhere near us” Warrick says. “How is Greg
Doing?” he asks.

“A bit sore but he’s doing good.”

“He going to race?” He asks.

“We’re going to see how he feels after practice and stuff. But I think he’ll be
able to go” I say as Archie walks out of the trailer. He nods and walks away.

“News travels fast” Warrick says.

“What have you heard?” I ask.

He smiles and leans on my car.

“Warrick what the fuck man, I spent all day waxing that thing” one of my crew
guys yells.

“Sorry” he says and steps away from it. He takes my arm and leads me away from
my pits.

“So what have you heard?” I ask again.

“Where should I start?”

“Oh god” I say and sit down on a steps.

“Well I’ve heard that you and Greg had a huge fight, you hurt him and he left
you, that Greg is cheating on you with Nick, Greg bumped you and is now with
Nick, oh you guys are now a threesome”

I stand up and roll my eyes. “A threesome really?” I say.

He nods and looks at me.

“I beat him up and he left me?” I say.

Warrick smiles and shakes his head.

“Don’t they have anything else better to do than talk about us” I say.

“It’s juicy gossip and it’s been kinda slow around here.” he says

“I just didn’t think it would get around this fast.” I say.

“So where is Greg” He asks.

“With Nick, eating track food” I say.

“Hmm” Warrick say and I shove him.

“You know, you know the truth about us so you could say something” I say.

“Like anyone would believe me when I say you guys are just friends.” He says
crossing his arms.

He’s right. Greg needs someone to be close to him to help keep him calm when
he’s uncomfortable. He doesn’t like to be alone. Always wanting someone nearby
or even touching him. He comes into a room and walks right over to me and either
takes my hand or I take him into my arms and hold him. Most of it is due to him
being very very shy. Doesn’t happen as much when he is in a comfortable setting,
but only our close friends see that side of him. Most see the one that is
clinging to me or if alone very shy and closed off to everyone. Looking at the
ground, never making eye contact.

“Well Archie was already snooping around and I told him we were just friends” I
say.

“Won’t take him long to spread that around” Warrick says.

“Mostly why I told him. That’s if he believed me.” I say and look up at the
sky again.

“There’s something else is going on with Greg isn’t there?” Warrick asks.

I look at him then away. I push my hands into his pocket. One thing I do know is
that
what ever I say to Warrick won’t be spread around the race track. “He’s just in
a bad place right now” I finally say “But we’re getting out of it. Just going to
take some time.”

“He didn’t look right. But I’m glad to know you guys are getting help.”
And he leaves it at that. “I thought you guys were coming early.” He says after
a while.

“That was the plan but my horses came early and my barn wasn’t done so I had to
work on it and find someone to care from them while we were gone.” I say.

“Horses? You are a cowboy aren’t you?”

“Always been around them. Felt weird not having them.” I again look up. I hope
my car is good so I don’t have to spend much time on the track.

“What, you hoping for rain” Warrick asks looking up as well.

“I’m just not really feeling this today” I say.

“We could do a rain dance” Warrick says looking up as well.

“If I thought it would work, I would” I say.

“Warrick, they are waiting on you at the pits” we turn and see Bobby walking
towards up. “We got a team meeting.”

“What the hell, another fucking meeting. Like I need to be there. ” He mumbles
“Do you know a rain dance” he asks suddenly.

Bobby gets a weird look on his face. “No, why” he ask as Warrick walks over to
him.

“Jeremy was hoping for rain” He says and the two of them walk off.

I walk back to my pits and over to my car. I lean on it and cover my face.

“Jeremy what the fuck, I spent 30 minutes getting Warricks ass print off the
car and now you do that.”

“Sorry” I back off the car.

“You okay?” fuck I can’t remember this guy’s name. He’s here every fucking week.
Has been the last 2 years and I can’t remember it.

“I think I’m getting a cold or something” I say. My head is really starting to
hurt and I ache all over. I feel something on my head and look up.

“Hey Jeremy we got a message from Warrick’s pits, says Bobby found a rain
dance?” Ray says looking at me oddly as he walks over to me. “Don’t just stand
There, cover the car and gear.” He yells.

“What was that about” he asks.

“I have no idea; you know Warrick’s a little odd.” I say and walk into the trail
and sit on the coach. I lie down and drop my hand over my face. Thank god for
rain.

Greg’s point of view

We walk into the food court and over to the counter. Nick leans on it and we
both look over the choices.

“See they got a hotdog with the works” he says.

I put my hand on my stomach but don’t answer him. “They have a chef salad” I say
with a grin.

“He’ll have the rabbit food with ranch dressing and I’ll have the cheese burger
meal” he says. I find a seat and lean back.

“Do you think it’s going to rain” I ask as he sits down. We both look out the
window.

“I’m so sick of the rain” he says handing me in salad and a drink.

“Well if everything gets cancelled we’ll have more time to hang out on the
strip”
I say.

“That’s true. Don’t know why I go though, I always lose a shit load of money” he
says.

“Other things to do beside gamble” I say.

“Bullshit” he smiles.

“I like to go the Bay to see the sharks” I say.

“Never done that” he says.

“Really? it’s so cool. We’ll have to see it” I say.

“Sounds good, so what else is there to see since your the expert.”

“The white tigers, the lions, the rides, the wax museum, shopping, lots of cool
shows and tons of places to eat. Way better than that” I say, pointing to his
burger.

“Hmm who knows. I always play the slots or cards” he says.

“No slots this time. I do everything but that and I bet you’ll have a better
time than the last time you were here” I say picking at my salad.

“Sounds like a plan. Can’t even eat that” he asks.

“Not really hungry and nothing tastes good anymore” I say forcing down a bit
more.

“Bet if you smoked some pot you’d eat” he says.

I laugh and almost choke on my food. “Do you have any?” I joke once I’ve
swallowed the bit of salad

“No but I bet we could find some pretty easy. Stand on the corn with a sign or
something. We need lots of pot. Please. Bet that would work.” he smiles.

“No thanks, I can see it now, Greg failed drug test. He’s a doper. Going to
jail.” I smile and pick up my drink.

“Now that would shock everyone” he says.

“Everyone thinks I’m a good old boy because I’m so shy and quite” I say.

“Aren’t you?” he asks.

“Pretty much I guess I’m pretty boring if you think about it. Not like some of
the other guys, going out partying all the time, I’d rather have dinner and
stuff, rent a movie, have a quiet evening at home.” I say.

“Quiet is good” Nick says and runs his hand though his hair.

I smile and look down at my drink.

“So, where is Jeremy” I jump and turn around and see Hodges. He pulls up a chair
and sits next to me.

“He’s at the pits” God I want to move back from him. He is way too close.

“Hodges what’s up” Nick asks.

“Nothing man just saw you guys hanging out so I thought I’d stop by and chat” he
says and leans forward. I swallow hard. The look on his face gives me the chills
and I move my chair back a bit.

“So why isn’t Jeremy here?” he asks looking at me.

“He’s tired, did a lot of work on the barn” I say as he places his hand on my
shoulder. God I want to jump up and move. The way he’s looking at me is really
freaking me out.

“Hodges don’t you have some other place to be?” Nick says and stands up.

“Nope” he says and doesn’t move.

Oh god, please don’t let them fight.

“I think you do” Nick says.

Hodges looks up at him and stands. I stand up as well and Hodges is a few inches
from my face. He steps back and crosses his arms.

“What the fuck is your problem?” Nick asks.

“You’re my problem” he says moving towards Nick.

“Nick. we should go” I say trying to reach him but he’s too far away.

“We are just having lunch. What the fuck is wrong with that.” Nick says.

Hodges is now glaring at him. He steps even close to Nick. I really don’t know
what to do. If Nick does anything here he’ll be suspended for sure. Hodges is
right in face and it’s clear he is really trying to start something with him.

“You make me sick” he says.

Nick takes a step back and bits his bottom lip. I can tell he’s doing his best
to stay calm.

“Nick let’s get out of here” I say. He turns to towards me. Without warming
Hodges pushes Nick in the chest and he falls back into the wall. Hodges grabs my
arm and pulls me towards him.

I try and pull away from Hodges but I can’t, he's got my broken arm and the pain
keeps me from moving or fighting him.

“You make me sick Greg you really do. Jeremy worships the ground you walk on and
you do this behind his back. And with him, my god what is wrong with you?”

“Hodges I” my mind races, “Jeremy and I aren’t together” I cry out.

“Let him go” Nick says and hurries over to us. Please don’t touch him or do
anything stupid.

“What are you going to do about it?” Hodges says. “You touch me and you’ll be
parked for the rest of the year and you know it.” He smiles and twists my arm
even
more. I hear something pop and I cry out in pain. I think it surprises him
because he lets me go. I have on a long sleeved shirt and it covered the brace
on my arm, so I’m guessing he didn’t even know I had it on. I go down to the
floor and Nick rushes over to me.
“Get the fuck out of here” Nick snaps and pulls my sleeve up.

Hodges’s eyes widen as he looks at the cast. “Shit Greg I didn’t know”

Nick stands up and walks towards him. “Nick please” I call out. He stops and
looks at me and returns to me. He helps me out and leads me over to a chair. I
look down at the floor and close my eyes. I never even thought about this. What
others would think of me spending time with Nick. Most everyone see’s is me with
Jeremy so I can see the way this looks. I wonder if anyone has said anything to
him yet. Nick’s got the cast off my arm and is looking at it.

“Look’s a lot worse” he says and I slowly look up.

My hand feels like it’s on fire. He puts the brace back on and I bite my lip to
deal with the pain. “Better get you to the care centre.” He says. I nod and
stand up.

“Fuck Greg I didn’t know your arm was busted” Hodges says.

“Hodges you should go, and leave him alone” Nick says. He turns and leaves the
dining room area. Thank god. Nick and I make our way over to the care centre.

“Greg, Nick, what a surprise to see you two here” Dr Scott says. He looks at me
and his cheerful look disappears from his face. He rushes over to me.

“What’s wrong?” he asks. I sit down and Nick pulls the brace off of my arm. I
close
my eyes as he touches it.

“What Happened?”

“Hodges grabbed my arm and was messing around. He didn’t see the cast” I say
though clinched teeth. I thought doctors were supposed to have a gentle touch.

He looks at me then over at Nick.

“He was running his stupid mouth and it took everything I had to not kick is
stupid ass across the room” Nick says. He still looks very upset.

Dr Scott nods. “So where is Jeremy?” he asks.

Oh god not this again. “Getting ready for practice, I should call him, and tell
him what happened.” I say.

“No practice for a while” Dr Scott says and nods his head toward the window.

“Fuck can this day get any worse” Nick says walking over to the window. Rain is
pouring down.

Dr Scott looks at me and I look down.

“I want to do an X-ray and see if he made the break any worse. Might have to put
you in a more stable cast.”

“Is there any way we can avoid that?” I ask as he leads me to another room.

“Nick you’ll have to wait outside for a minute” he says.

Nick runs his hand though his hair and steps back. Dr Scott shuts the door and
walks over to me.

“So what happened” he asks.

“Hodges was upset I was spending time with Nick. Guess he thinks Jeremy and I
are together.” I say and cover my face with my good hand. He lays my hand on a
table and does a few extra movements with it.

“Your kinda rough” I say as he moves my arm around.

“I know, I’ve been told that before” he says. “All done.” He backs away from the
table. He gets out an ice pack and set it on my hand.

“Swelling pretty fast” he says and opens the door. Nick walks over to me.

“I’m glad you didn’t do anything to him” I say as he sits next to me.

“I would have if you weren’t there” he says looking at my arm.

“Please don’t get into any more trouble because of me.” I say.

His hand runs through his hair and he leans back. Guess I’m going to have
address
this. Others might say something as well. Don’t think they’d be as rude as
Hodges
but none the less I’ll have to do something. I rest my head on Nick’s shoulder
and he takes my hand. I close my eyes.

“Well he didn’t do you any favours but I think this cast will still work. Just
paint it orange or something so someone can see it” he says as I look up at him.

“You good for pain pills and stuff?” he asks as he removes the ice and recast my
arm.

“Yeah I should be” once he’s done I stand up.

“Is everything else okay?” he asks.

“Yeah” say and pull my sleeve over the cast.

“I wouldn’t take that off unless you have to. If you two need anything else
you know where I am.” He says.

I again node and walk to the door. “Thanks” I say and Nick follows me out of the
room. I stop and lean on the wall.

“You ok” he asks.

“Yeah just gotta deal with this.” I say and force a smile.

“Why, you shouldn’t have to say anything if you don’t want to.” He says. This
has got to be weird for him. Hell it’s weird for me. I’m just starting to like
Nick. So what do I say to others, to him? I cover my face and let out a long
sigh.

“Just tell them it’s your life and for them to fuck off” Nick says.

I smile and look up. “Such language”
He shrugs and we start walking towards the door. I’ll just tell who ever asks
that Jeremy and I were never together and that Nick and I are what, friends?
What if he wants more. I’m pretty sure he does and I pretty sure I do to but
what if he hears the wrong thing and gets upset. Or what if he really does just
want to be friends and hears that I think it’s more than just that and he gets
upset.
But why would he kiss me on the cheek if he wanted to be just friends. Why the
fuck do things have to so god damn hard!

“I can see the wheels turning” he says.

I push my hand into my pocket and look down. He takes me hand out and pulls me
close. He wraps his arm around my waist. He lifts my chin up and I smile. He
leans down and our lips come together. I wrap my arms around his neck and pull
him even close. We finally break apart and I take his hand in mine.

Well that answers one question anyways.

Finally this chapter exists !
