Jan. 28th, 2006 11:13 pmFrom The CSI Companion Book. (because I don't know how many of you actually have/read/looked at this book, but it's actually a really awesome book and I know a lot of people love the scene they're talking about. XD)
To explain a little about the book, it goes episode by episode and gives a brief summary, with some screenshots (yes, there's a screenshot of Greg in the headdress for the episode summary of Table Stakes. *giggles*) and after each episode summary is a little thing, almost like a behind-the-scenes look, at the episode. (there's also character bios set up like actual files and some case files; this book is really well done for the series. <3) Below is an example, taken from the behind-the-scenes page of the episode Table Stakes (yes, it's about the can-canning XD):
From the very first shot of the buzzing fundraiser to the backstage world of the showgirls to Catherine's visit to the Liberace Museum, the sleuthing is cleverly accented with lively visuals and cheeky comment. The levity reaches its crescendo when Catherine and Grissom happen upon Greg can-canning in the hallways wearing Portia Richmond's gargantuan headdress. "That was a total surprise to me," Eric Szmanda says of the wacky interlude. Although he recieved ample help from his colleagues in the cast and crew on the finer points of burlesque dancing, the scene was twisted enough to make the normally unflappable actor a little self-concious. "It'd hard enough to do something like that in front of thirty people on a set," he says, "but afterward one of the stand-ins came up to me and said, 'Do you realize thirty million people are going to see what you just did?' And that's when it hit me. But I tried not to think about that 'cause it would've just freaked me out."
I apologize to those that have already read this, or if this has already been put up, but it struck me as the most amusing thing.

Date: 2006-01-29 05:41 am (UTC)And you're welcome. :D It was a combination of a couple things that even made me consider picking up a book that's normally $25: Because of one of my jobs (that being of a video game store), Barnes and Noble happens to be a sister company to the store, so I get a pretty good discount there, plus I had a gift card, so I only paid like eight bucks for it (and got pointed out I'm a big nerd for having gotten it, from a guy friend who can recite the periodic table and keeps a miniature periodic table in his wallet. And no, the guy is not going to be a CSI; he wants to be like Dib's dad. XD). <3 It's worth it though. OMG, it's so pretty.
Because I can, I was just looking at the group shot on the back of the book (which has Greg in it, which makes me happy, because the board game - although you can use Greg as a player piece and he looks positively bored in the DNA lab space; and yes, I just confirmed that ^^; - and the puzzles don't have him on them, but I know he's in a screenshot on the cover for the computer game Dark Motive.) and noticed that Nick's hand is very close to Greg's rear. Very close.

Date: 2006-01-29 06:36 am (UTC)Also, George Eads was once held up at gunpoint so having Nick get a gun pointed at him hit home for the actor. It was also an idea of the writers to kill off Kristy Hopkins (the prostitute Nick met in the pilot episode, re-met in I-15 Murders and who was killed in Boom), because, quote, "Nick's already on the edge, so we thought, 'What if something happened to her?'"
It goes on a bit to say how they felt there was this dramatic setup and all, and (another quote): 'When her murderer/pimp Jack Willman tells Nick, "She's not Julia Roberts and you're not Richard Gere," it gets to the heart of Nick's country-boy naivete. "His ideas about women seem old-fashioned," George Eads says of his character, "but they're very loving, endearing qualities."'
If I come across any other funny/interesting Eric and/or Nick stuff, I'll put it up here, so you can pass it along to your sisters! :D

Date: 2006-01-29 08:12 pm (UTC)So, would you recommend the book to me? I saw it in Waterstones the other day and I told my mother that I would like it for my birthday and I was actually looking for someone that had actually read it to tell me what it's like, so...

Date: 2006-01-29 10:15 pm (UTC)And the screenshots are gorgeous and there's a few quotes scattered through, and character bios set up like folders (for example, in Nick's bio 'folder', there's a thing of his fingerprints and in Catherine's, there's a memo about the incident that happens in Play With Fire). And there's a couple 'case files'. It's a great book, I can't fangirl it enough. ^^
